Allergic reaction to Docetaxel

Hi.  I had my 2nd cycle of chemo and I had an allergic reaction.  The nurses were amazing and administered anti-histamine and steroids into the spare cannula very quickly so I was better very quickly. They then slowed down the rate of chemo to 2 hours. It was 1 hour before that. I am now very nervous about my next cycle.  Will it happen again?  I have been told by many people it is quite common with Docetaxel and it so T happen again, but it would be good to get some co formation. If this. Thanks in advance.

Hi Khoole123

Thanks for posting. We thought it would be helpful for one of the nurses to reply.

It’s understandable to feel nervous about your next cycle of chemo. Allergic reactions are a possible side effect of having docetaxel and can happen more commonly with the first or second cycle.

It may help to talk to your treatment team about your concerns for your next chemotherapy cycle. It is likely you’ll be monitored closely during your next treatment so that any reaction can be dealt with immediately.  They may also consider given the docetaxel more slowly.
