Phew thank Goodness for this forum - I’ve not been on for ages spending my time getting better outdoors but the pain in my hands and hips was threatening to spoil my efforts to get better. Added to that a huge bald patch on the back of my head and a weight explosion I finally took myself off to the GP who told me to call the Onc - he has just told me that I should try a different brand - he’s sending me the name of the new one. I have been on APC for 18 mths without much difficulty so I am going to finger the Wockhardt as the culprit - I’ll let you know.
I have been taking Tam since 12/08/11 and was given the Wockhardt brand, how quickly do the SEs generally kick in? I am definitely more short tempered and my legs and hips ache in bed and when I first get up in the morning. I have noticed that Wockhardt contains lactose which I like to avoid and wondered if the APS brand does as well.
I know this is a little cheeky but if someone could check on their pack for me I would be grateful, I have tried looking on the internet and can’t find anything.
I’ve just picked up three months of Tam and have been given a split prescription of half Wockhardt and the others are APS. I’ve looked at the ingredients of the APS and cannot see Lactose listed. The ingredients for APS listed are:
Tamoxifen citrate, plus mannitol, povidone, sodium starch glycolate, colloidal silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, polyethylene glycol and colour, titanium dioxide.
I am going to see if there is any difference for me with the APS v Wockhardt…
i have a problem with maize and other starches so the hospital found one with no starch additives. Its a liquid and very alcoholic. It is flavoured with natural liquorice and is a lovely start to the day. Only been on it a week so a bit early for side effects. It does have sorbitol and glycerol but I dont have a problem with those
I started on the Wockhardt brand and after a couple of weeks I started getting this weird leg thing happening. I got bad leg cramps at night but my legs always felt really heavy, hot (but not to touch) and just weird. When I walked it felt as if I was wearing lead lined boots. Anyway last month I asked the chemist for a change of brand and she gave me APS. I noticed a massive difference within a week. Leg cramps are now few and far between, I don’t feel my legs hot anymore and I’ve ditch the lead lined boots! The only down side is APS are being taken over by Teva so not sure if APS will disappear or not! Just started packet 6, only 54 to go:(
Hello everyone,
I’ve been on Wockhardt Tamoxifen for nearly 10 months now. I do have very bad aching joints, if I’ve been sitting for a while I really struggle when I get up. Over the last month my hot flushes have really got bad and are affecting my sleep and generally making me feel miserable.
Today I got some APS tamoxifen and will be starting them tomorrow so fingers crossed for less side effects
I’ve been on Tam for 2 and a half years and have the workhardt ones but always found APS better. However trying to get hold of them wasn’t easy in fact I’ve had to make do with the Workhardt ones for a year as I was living abroad. I have just moved to Luxembourg and two weeks ago went to the doctors and got a six month supply of Nolvadex-D which I don’t think they do in the UK anymore but is all they have here, a week after the change I went swimming with my husband and commented that all the exercise must be working as it was the first time I hadn’t felt the aches and pains whilst swimming - any exercise made me creaky and sitting or standing for too long was horrendous, I felt like an old woman at 38! I’d put all of it down to the muscle missing from my back due to the reconstruction! It was only when reading this I realised that the brand has changed and what a difference it has been.
APS doesn’t contain lactose and so my GP puts on the prescription lacotse free which excludes Workhardt he he. The chemist did say that APS has been taken over by Teva so I don’t know how long it will be for, I said there were less SEs with APS and he did not argue.
My advice is to go to your local independent chemist and explain the problem with SEs and ask them if they can source APS for you, these are supposed to be caring people so they should have no problem with your request!
I think I might send an email to Teva asking if they are going to continue with the ASP version of TAM, if they realise their product is better than the cheapest alt perhaps they will push the marketing of it?!
I was prescrobed tamoxifen ten years ago and after taking it for a few days i developed a rash from head to toe. it took a lot of convincing the surgeon and oncologist that i was allergic to it. After stopping it to have chemo, within a week the rash had completly gone, so was prescribed Arimidex. i don’t know which brand of Tamoxifin it was but it’s interesting to see some-on has had eczema.
Trash
