Alternative HRT

I cannot take tamoxifen as had bad visual side effects so oncologist is going to put me on a different one. Are patches available for HRT?
Which HRT has least side effects?

Morning Vicki, please check with your medical team. You usually have to stop HRT for hormone sensitive breast cancers!. They may mean, hormone therapy, which are hormone blockers and the total opposite effect on the body to HRT. If it is hormone therapy I’m not sure if they do patches, its usually tablets. Best wishes.

Hello vicky

Thanks for your post.

As you are unable to take tamoxifen, it sounds as if you doctor will be suggesting an aromatase inhibitor.

These drugs can cause side effects and many women experience menopausal symptoms from treatments for breast cancer. This can really impact on your quality of life.

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is availabe in patches but HRT is not usually recommended in any form for women who have had a diagnosis of breast cancer. This is because there’s uncertainty about whether HRT increases the risk of breast cancer coming back (recurrence).
