Alternative therapies

Hello all,

Recently diagnosed (10/06/08) and following lumpectomy now have 20 sessions of Radiotherapy and 5 years of Tamoxifen.

I want to say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for letting me join this group. You are all so much help and support in my ‘not so good’ moments.

I have been offered Acupuncture and Homeopathy to help with side effects/anxieties and wondered whether anyone has experience of it helping or not??

Tamoxifen starts next week, and RT in Sep.

I’ve been told that Acupuncture can be very effective in relieving nausea and fatigue from chemo which you didn’t mention so I assume you won’t be doing that.

There are a few of us that use homeopathy. I’ve been using it for over 10 years and have the added benefit that my Mum is now my homeopath (she professionally qualifed a few years ago). Because I’ll be doing radiotherapy I’ve been give remedies specifically for that. I’ve personally found the remedies that operate on the emotional level extremely helpful. My very first reaction to being diagnosed was to hit the bottle, that aconite that is not the wine… that was later

I would try it and see if you find any benefit personally. Acupuncture and Homeopathy don’t work for everyone but you’ve got nothing to lose from finding out if it’s for you.

Do have a read of the Complementary Therapies section of the forum if it’s something which interests you.

Sorry you’ve been diagnosed with this horrid disease but hopefully in the right hands you won’t have to suffer from it and the treatment will do it’s job.

Good luck

Angie

Pen, have a look at the ‘Complimentary Therapies’ forum.

I’m sure you’ll find lots of positive stuff on there, and I certainly found things like reflexology helpful and hope you do to.

Best wishes

Hi Pen

You might find it useful to have a look at the BCC booklet on complementary therapies. It can be found by using the following link:-

I am an acupuncturist and I work with 3 complementary therapists in a Mental Health Hospital. I am probably biased but find that all our patients find pain relief, reduction of anxiety, improved sleeping, and improved general wellbeing!
