Hi Ladies
I’ve been on letrozole for a year now, and finding the tiredness quite hard to cope with at times. What are the alternatives to letrozole, and what side effects do they have?
Thanks

Hello sue
If u want to stay on hormones the choices are:
Tamoxifen
Anastrozole ( arimidex )
Exmestance
Don’t know about anything else but Exmestance seems to be kinder from what I’ve read on the threads but I have no experience as I’m a letrozole (accord brand only) girl.
I don’t think any of them are free of side effects to be honest but it getting the one that is the least! !!
Showing off but I did 2 years on tamoxifen and 3 years on arimidex at primary stage …apart from hot flush didn’t notice much problem but I was only 51 and fit and active then.
Thanks Carolyn
I’m also on accord, so can’t change anything there. I was wondering if letrozole is more effective than the others? Why is letrozole the standard med to start with?
Reading up on side effectives, there doesn’t seem much in it.

I think I read that in a clinical trial years ago …letrozole was superior to the others but not sure really. It’s controlled my extensive bone mets now for 2 years so I’m very thankful of this little pill.
If u are really struggling …maybe a chat to your oncologist about Exmestance which is the newer kid on the block used more now as it’s out of licence and compares price wise to the others .
It’s also used in conjunction with an affinator for ladies with secondaries and can be very efficient.
