Hi everyone. I don’t know if anyone can answer but I just need to get this off my chest.
I started Denosumab in November 2022 and have just had my third monthly injection. Before I started it I was told my haemoglobin was slightly low at 93. I was hopeful that the new drug would help improve that but sadly not. The second month it dropped to 87 and after feeling a bit better (or so I thought) it’s now dropped to 81. I am so anxious as I know if it drops again they may suggest a blood transfusion. Got oncologist meeting on 2 February and had review Ct scan last week.
I feel like I may be back to the beginning of the Tamoxifen/Zoladex I’m also on are starting to fail.
Just checking in to see how you are? I don’t have the answer to your question as my treatment is different but I do remember flopping down in my oncologist’s office and telling him I felt like a vampire and please could I have a blood transfusion! My numbers were always borderline at that stage so the answer was no. He was lucky I didn’t take a dive at him tbh.
I don’t understand the anxiety over a blood transfusion - at least you know it’s going to do some good and not destroy any more healthy cells you so desperately need. I do understand the reluctance to start a new treatment. But that may be for the best and there are lots of options out there, including clinical trials for new drugs that you might qualify for.
