Hi rubywednesday
Thanks for posting.
It’s sounds like a difficult time for you with lots of uncertainty and questions around your treatment plan.
If you haven’t done so already it would be helpful to contact your breast care nurse or chemotherapy team to ask when your appointment is going to be and if they are able to say what the plan is with your remaining chemotherapy and if they are going to stop it due to the previous bad reactions you have had. You can also ask them about the herceptin and if it will be given at your local hospital. Sometimes it’s easier to talk these queries through on the phone, so if you feel able to do so, you can call our helpline to speak to one of our nurses.
You also ask about hair loss when your chemotherapy has stopped, any further hair loss is unlikely once your chemotherapy has finished, although some people can experience hair thinning when they are taking letrozole. Our breast cancer and hair loss booklet has further information that you may find useful.
Our information about radiotherapy may be helpful to read in preparation for your oncology appointment. However, if you are having radiotherapy, your treatment team will talk you through what to expect and explain in more detail about possible side effects. This recent Facebook Live on radiotherapy may be helpful to watch.
Talking to someone who has had a similar experience can often be helpful. Our Someone Like Me service can match you with a trained volunteer who’s had a similar experience to you. You can be in touch with your volunteer by phone or email and they can share their personal experiences to answer your questions, offer support or simply listen to how you are feeling.
You can ring the Someone Like Me team on 0800 138 6551 or email them at someone.likeme@breastcancernow.org, so they can then match you to your volunteer.
We also offer a range of free supportive services for anyone who has had a diagnosis of breast cancer which you may be interested in.
As mentioned above you can call our helpline if you would like to talk this through or have any further questions. The helpline team have time to listen, talk things through and signpost you to additional support and information if necessary. Your call will be confidential, and the number is free from UK landlines and all mobile networks. The number is 0808 800 6000, (Relay UK -prefix 18001).
