Hi everyone I’ve just had yearly review at doctors due to high BP and my cholesterol has gone up again. I’ve taken Anastrozole over five years now and it’s risen each year. Now it is 6.8. The good cholesterol is apparently very good but the bad is high. I eat healthily enough. I don’t eat meat I use Quorn instead and eat fish. I do eat cake crisp etc and use butter but not too much. The nurse said it would be linked to Anastrozole and said it would be difficult to adjust with diet. She did mention Statins but wondered if I wanted another tablet so said they’d review in a year. I’m wondering now if I should make a doctors appointment to discuss a Statin as it seems a high figure. Anyone else had similar or any advice. Thanks xx
If your good cholesterol is above average I’m inclined to agree with your doctor. Sometimes total cholesterol can be high but when the good cholesterol is high with it, it can counteract it so it’s not much of a concern. I have a friend who’s cholesterol is above 250 but her good cholesterol is high enough where they don’t care.
Hi,
Last October, before I was diagnosed with BC in November, my GP recommended I start on a statin because my cholesterol level was 6.8. I’d had a few years of my risk being scored and due to my good cholesterol levels I hadn’t needed to take statins. I think she was quite surprised I didn’t have any objections, but my grandmother died of a heart attack at 63 and my Mum was diagnosed with Angina & high cholesterol at 51. My Mum started taking statins then. She’s now 86 and well. So I started on a statin last October, I haven’t had any side effects & my cholesterol level is 4.6. I started Anastrozole in August. Hope this helps you decide.
