Hi all, I’ve been on Anastrozole for about 4 weeks, taking it in the morning because I read it can disturb sleep.
I normally sleep well as I take Amitriptyline at night for MS pain, but the last couple of weeks I lie there for hours before falling asleep. Normally I’m asleep by 10.30 pm but I’m now more likely to be getting off around 2am! I’m still getting up at 7am in the hope that it will improve.
Anyone else had this problem and did it improve?
Apart from that I seem to be ok. A few aches and pains which might or might not be caused by the drug, and a couple of hot flushes.
Hello snow leopard
I took anastrole ( arimidex) for three years and found that to combat the non sleep thing …I had to avoid caffeine and chocolate after six pm …also a glass of tonic water helps for some reason too.
I take letrozole now …same sort of side effects but the body does adjust once the pills settle in.
Hi Pat, how are you, apart from the sleepiness nights that is? I’m having trouble sleeping on Anastrozole too. I drop without a problem but without fail wake up an hour an half later with a jolt then the dreaded hot sweats start, they go on and off until 5ish then I just doze until it’s time to get up. Just started getting them in the day too, however, could be down to having to come off hrt after my surgery.
im going to try a glass of tonic before bed now instead of water. That’s the great thing about this site, so many good tips xx
Hope the tonic water helps. I posted on another thread but to help with hot sweats at night …try slathering loads of cream on your feet before u get into bed …for some reason if yr feet are cool …it helps.

Thanks Carolyn, I’ll try that too, though not sure how cream cools? All over feet or just soles? I love my chillow pads, I dont know what I’d do without them xx
I spent the best money ever on duck feather duvet and pillows …so much better. A lot of the other ladies on other threads swear by wool filled duvets …not tried them as expensive and happy with my feathers!
I do the okey cokey dance still …one foot in duvet one foot out quite often in the hot weather though!

Yes, the chillow pads are hard but I just use them for the worst of the sweats the flip the pillow over to the other side.
Pat, I’ve always slept in the raw even on the coldest nights, just can’t stand wearing anything in bed. I have 100% cotton sheets and currently all I have is a sheet with a cotton patchwork throw that I find I need for an hour before flinging it off around 3am.
its strange, day before yesterday I had really bad sweats in the afternoon and evening but found I was better during that night. Yesterday I only had 2 in the evening and had a really bad night. I did read somewhere on here that one lady said if she did a good workout in the day and got a massive sweat on found she didn’t get them in the night. Maybe that’s the answer? Thing is I don’t think I’m able for a good workout.
ive got a couple of bottles of tonic water today so going to try that tip tonight.
I had a glass of tonic water before bed last night, and although I I was all clammy and hot and didn’t get much sleep It was a muggy night, it might just be coincidence, but the hot sweat weren’t as bad. I’ll keep drinking a glass and see what happens. Thanks for the tip xx
Glad the tonic water might help …it’s just my way but u know what ? I’ve had a glass before bed for months …last night forgot …hot all night and had cramp …forgot to say its good for cramp too.
So hope it helps.

Ha ha …it’s the only time I feel sorry for our men !! They sort of cocoon themselves in a pile of pillows and duvet to protect themselves from the draught from the fan and wide open Windows !!
Wonder how they would cope if it was their bits being invaded and having to take pills that reverse nature !! Etc etc.
