Anatrazole

Im post surgery and awaiting a date for radiotherapy. No chemo needed as not in lymph nodes. I feel extremely grateful and lucky that my cancer was caught early. I had to come straight off HRT after 10 years. Im 56 now.

Im 20 days into Anatrazole and trying to do anything I can to lessen expected side effects. So far im experiencing hot flushes, mild anxiety and finding my mind is constantly going ten to the dozen, because im constantly overthinking what is ahead. Im an assistant teacher in a primary school so worried about brain fog if im teaching a lesson.

I was already taking cod liver oil, glucosamine and calcium and magnesium due to a history of osteoporosis in the family. Ive added Ashwaganda to help with anxiety and biotin for hair thinning, I also try to excercise for ten minutes on a crosstrainer every day and do some hand weights to help with bone strength.
I have no idea if it will help, but im trying to throw anything i can at it.

Does anyone have a timeline of side effects they’ve experienced on Anatrazole? I have a friend that refused to take it after 3 months due to the impact, but I want to keep going as I know it is potentially going to prevent the cancer from returning and save my life.

Hello, I had a similar diagnosis at a similar age. My advice would be to give the drug a go and see how you get on. Many ( or the severety of ) your side effects may be down to the lack of HRT, so you’d have them without the AI drug. If you don’t get on with Anastrazole there are several others you can try. Just give it time amd make some notes so you can monitor what’s going on and make informed decisions x

Hi there. I’m in Canada and was on letrozole which didn’t sit well with me at all. Too many side effects so dropped after 5 weeks. Gave my body a break and then switched to anastrozole. Was doing good until the three week mark and then the fatigue and heavy legs hit hard! Just brutal. I’m at the four week mark and trying to ride it out a bit but if it continues for a few months I think I’d have to seriously consider taking anything as I’m usually an active person and this is not how I like to be. :two_hearts:

Sorry to hear its been so tough on you. Im not doing too badly YET, Main thing is the hot flushes through the night, which make me wake up. I think the excercising and supplements may be helping, im not sure. I have granola and yoghurt mid morning at work to keep my energy levels steady and like you im quite active and on the go alot like you. One thing I am trying is switching up the time I take it as I start to flush about an hour after I take it about 7.30pm, they tend to wear off in the morning, so now im trying to take it after few hours earlier in the hoping I’ll get some respite at night. Im praying things get better for you. Let me know how you get on.
