hi ladies,
I wonder if anyone else has had this problem. For the past 6 months I have been setting off the security alarms as I enter and leave shops in our local centre. Funny to begin with , then a little puzzling but now just downright annoying and embarassing.as I keep getting suspicious looks from the security guards! Well, today I discovered why!! I had my anniversary of dx mammogram and lo and behold my right breast appears to have become home to about 7 or 8 metal staples! The radiographer smiled and said" Bet you set off the alarms at the airport"Is this normal? Can anyone enlighten me as to why I should have all these staples. I only had 2 wle’s!
Thanks
Margaret
Hi Margaret,
Sorry that you have not got any replies yet. Unfortunately I cannot give you any answers either as I did not have staples. The only advice I can say is that you should perhaps ring your breast care nurse and discuss this with her if you do not have an appointment with the Dr soon.
Hope other people can give you some advice soon as none of us want anything else to worry about.
Take care.
Angela
I have been setting off alarms in shops and the airport as well - so perhaps I will discover the same when I have my mammogram in May!
Happy New Year
Anne
ooooo not tried that one yet…got my anniversary mammo in february…going to sulk if i dont get to set alarms off…would be nice getting checked over by a nice young security chap! Dont think ive got any staples though…well i wouldve known about it by now…but worth asking lol.
Apparently I have got staples in, which I discovered at my radiotherapy planning session. I’ve not set any alarms off, but can’t get ITV1 on the TV in the kitchen anymore lol - thought it was the weather!
My staples were discovered by my gastro when I was sent for a chest x-ray! Perhaps that’s why my computer keeps crashing - husband is on the same network and his doesn’t!
awwwww dont think ive got any…but ive got a bad habit of blowing stuff up anyway…apparently im a pretty ‘static’ person lol…used to send the techies loopy when i was in the RAF…bloomin heck…you AGAIN…right…wear this bracelet and stop rubbing your feet on the nylon carpet lol…ooops! Jez…what you going to do when its the digital switchover…are you going to be coming out with lots of dodgy noises lol…sorry couldnt resist.
Well ladies,
We must be a rare breed! Lizziecee, my computer keeps crashing too… only when I’m using it ! It’s okay for everyone else.
My bc nurse said the clips are put in to show where the tumour was, so a boost can be given during rads. Apparently its a fairly recent thing, probably only regularised during the past 18 months or so. Anyway , mystery solved. Thanks for your comments… they made me smile. Oh and I did suggest that a card might come in useful for the airport!!!
Margaret
Thats it…I deffo want clips in!!! Im going to ask the oncologist where mine are and if I havent got any…WHY NOT…cos it sounds like good fun setting things off!
Imagine the hours of fun you could have at an airport going through the metal detectors…hehe…all jewellery off…belt off…trousers off…hehe you could send the guys and gals loopy with those wand things them trying to find the offending metal…if i dont have any clips im going to sulk cos i want to join in lol.
