Annual travel renewal post diagnosis but I have a trip booked

Hello everyone,
I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer and will be having a mastectomy in the next few weeks. I don’t know what treatment (ie radio / chemo) I will be having after that as they want to analyse the tumour to decide. Our annual travel policy is due to renew at the end of the month: I won’t be going anywhere in the near future but I do have a trip booked with some friends in September which i really hope to go on.
If I renew the annual policy I’ll have to declare the cancer and then it becomes a condition so if I ended up having to cancel my September trip I am not sure if I would be covered. But if I let it lapse and try to get insurance for the trip only I don’t know if they would cover cancellation in case I needed chemo.
This is quite a specific question so not sure if anyone will have any experience but would be grateful for any thoughts!
Thank you

I had my surgery in March . We had to cancel trip in June . Was annual policy with bank account .
We declared and got a refund on holiday .
Cost £30 extra premium to continue .
Was told uk was fine but any other trips had to check with them before travelling .

If the trip was booked before your diagnosis, I would contact the insurer to discuss renewal as I think it’s reasonable to expect the trip to be covered. You will probably find you have an exclusion on any other trips you take.

I did this successfully when in the same position. Unfortunately during the following year I became metastatic so at that point sought insurance from a specialist who would cover my cancer.

Hi
Can i ask who u used to insure you? I was diagnosed with secondary bc last may and my holiday insurance that i had booked before my diagnosis wouldnt cover me. I did tey numerous insurance companies who specialised and they all were charging me thousands of pounds. I booked nasic holiday insurance that would basically cover my husband. Ive now travelled 4 times without cover really which isnt good. Im thinking of trying again now that my treatment has been
Ongoing for a number of months
I would appreciate your provider name. Thanks x

I was diagnosed with primary breast cancer in Feb 22 and at that point I had already paid a lot of money for a ticket and accommodation package for the rugby World Cup in France in autumn 2023. At that point I had an annual policy with Direct Line. When it came up for renewal in June 22, I rang them up, discussed my situation, and got a renewal in which the package I had already purchased was covered, but any newly booked trips would have a breast cancer exclusion.

In September 22 I was diagnosed stage 4 so decided that my June 23 renewal would need to cover my cancer as I didn’t feel comfortable travelling without full cover. I purchased a new annual policy with Insurancewith then, and renewed it in June 24. Costs have not been excessive despite having incurable cancer, albeit my situation has remained stable.
