Another lump post surgery and radiotherapy

Hi, I found a lump in October, confirmed as grade 1, stage 1 in November. Surgery (lumpectomy) December, radiotherapy February. Anastrasole for 5 years. ER and PR positive, HER2 negative.
Had been doing ok, but can now feel another lump on the same side. Spoke to BCN nurse who said call my BC nurse and I have been sent an appointment 29th April for an ultrasound.
I am trying not to panic, haven’t told friends and family because I don’t want to cry wolf, but I am worried and just need a bit of support to get through the next couple of weeks. Thank you

Hi @beauseamus

You poor thing, it is such a horrible time waiting to know what you are dealing with. There are all sorts of things that occur in the healing process so don’t assume the worst. I had 3 lumps appear after surgery and it turned out to be fat necrosis when I had an u/s. You have done absolutely the right thing to go back to your BC nurses though. It is by far the quickest way to get things checked.

You just have to try and stay busy and distracted until then. I would recommend telling someone though so you have at least one person to offload to and to keep you company when you have the u/s.

I hope and pray it all turns out fine for you. Do post the result when you get it.

Love and hugs

Its early days since your treatment and your breast will still be undergoing various inflammatory and healing stages from the radiotherapy- I know mine still is, and surrounding area and my radiotherapy was back in August. Lets hope it’s to do with that, until you know different.
By now, you should probably know the feel of your boob pretty well. I massage twice a day at least, to keep oedema and cording at bay - yes, it happened although like you, grade 1 stage 1. Ive had varying degrees of lumpiness, but mainly under the skin and they smooth out with massage, if they didn’t I’d get it checked out, as you are doing.
You’ve done the right thing getting it investigated, hopefully some scar tissue formation and your mind can be put at ease. I’m very much a ‘park worries in a box until I know’ person, but not everyone does this. Good luck, I hope it turns out to be innocuous, try to remember that with low grade and stage, the odds are in your favour.

Oh the waiting is so awful! I’m also waiting for a 3D mammo and ultrasound. A three week wait! Even if IT isn’t growing that fast or it hopefully isn’t anything sinister, the wait and not knowing is horrendous. All that time for worry and rumination. I hope you get through ok, keep busy and desract yourself as @beauseamus says.

Hi @beauseamus

Obviously nobody can tell you what it is until you have your appointment - and I’m sorry you are stuck playing the waiting game again which is the worst game of all . However there are other things that it could be besides what we all fear - and I was in the same position myself.

About 5 months post - lumpectomy / SNB and 3 months post - radiotherapy I found another lump and I was terrified and I also couldn’t face telling anyone. My logical brain was telling me that it was probably something related to treatment but it’s very hard to think logically when the thing you fear happens. I managed to get an appointment the following week to see a BCN and luckily she was then able to get me in for an ultrasound scan later the same day . It turned out to be an oil cyst also known as fat necrosis - the tissue dies off as a result of having the blood supply cut off during surgery it sort liquidises into oil then your body sees it as an alien object that should not be there and makes a coating around it that forms into a lump . No treatment was required though they are sometimes drained and it was quite painful for a while .
I hope it turns out to be something simple for you too and I hope that this and the other replies will help .Sending love and let us know how it goes. Xx

Hello. I know the waiting is horrendous but do try not to worry.

I found a couple of lumps after my surgery and radiotherapy and was panicking also. Following my ultrasound, it just turned out to be cyst post surgery that can happen and they drained them and they disappeared!

Try to stay positive and all the best. x

Hi @beauseamus
I just wanted to say hi and I hope that your new lump turns out to be something simple like a cyst. I know that it’s so hard not to worry and think the worst but I have had several scares in the past which have turned out to be simple problems and nothing sinister. I have an appointment on Thursday to check out a lump in my armpit so I too am trying to be positive and know how difficult it is
