just thought I would update everone on the problems I have been having recently. I had my operation in April to remove Appendix and repair hole in small bowell and had been home for 2 weeks when I sprang a leak through the wound (which hadn’t healed) Some of the contents of my bowell had started coming out (horrible I know) So I was admitted again to hospital and have now been sent home with this huge wound bag on the front of my stomach and have told that this will hopefully heal up by itself in time. The alternative is that I go back in to hospital and they put me on a drip and liquid food to bypass my bowell completely. The only trouble is they said I could be in hospital for months. Not a lot of options really.
I am so fed up it just feels that this cancer is creeping up all over me. I thought it would be running out of chemo options that would be a problem not having to have major surgery.
Just to let you know my mum had a bowel cancer op in January (large, aggressive tumor) and after the surgery had a leak, just as you describe. She was given antibiotics, two courses I think but it remained a problem for many weeks. However in the end it sorted itself, and now she is fine. It seems that the gaps that open up do eventually heal. I know she got very upset and scared for a while when it didn’t seem to be improving, but it did, it just took a lot longer thand the normal recovery time.
Hi Caroline, so sorry to hear you’ve had a tough time. I can really sympathise with you as I had a hip replacement op with pinning in March due to bone mets and then a month later had metal rods put in my spine + cement to repair a fractured vertebrae, also due to bone mets, so I am now on crutches and have been in pain for longer than I care to remember. It does get you down, doesn’t it. I’m starting an oral chemo next week and sometimes wonder just how much more torture I can put my body through.
Hope you make a good recovery though and feel better soon.
Hi Caroline,
Not been on here for a while. Am sorry to hear you’ve been having such a rough time and really hope things improve for you.
Thinking of you.

How are you doing caroline, you have been through so much i can completely understand the way it knocks you for six, sometimes i think i have been hit head on by a train and there is just nothing you can do about it, you just have to listen to your doctors half the time missing what they are saying.
I do hope you keep improving, you have enough on your plate without any other added nasties.
