Anxiety about first annual mammogram after cancer treatment

I have an inkling as to how you might be feeling. I’m just starting going through my ‘first anniversary dates’. It is an odd feeling isn’t it…?
My surgery was 21 August and I was told that’s the date they use for yearly mammograms, so I have a few weeks yet.

Surprise letter in the post saying the mammogram has ‘no areas of concern’. Arrived much quicker than I had been told. Such a relief.

That’s great news, mine came really quickly when I had my first one last year.

Dreading this year as if it doesn’t come back early again I will panic as I was told it would be about two weeks last time.

Dear chillout365

Wishing you well, fingers crossed for a good outcome with your mammogram results. I’m with a London hospital results can take 4/6 weeks, hopefully yours will come through much quicker as the waiting game plays havoc with us.

I felt the same way before mine, but talking with the radiographer helped calm my nerves. I took deep breaths and brought a friend for support—it really made a difference.

It’s normal to feel emotional even after recovery, especially with check-ups and side effects lingering. Sometimes small things trigger a flood of feelings. One way I eased my anxiety was having little rituals to calm myself, like a quiet moment with some tea or just browsing Bongs for Sale for fun—silly, but it gave me a tiny distraction and a sense of normalcy.
