Hi, I’m 49 and have just been referred to the breast clinic under the 2 week rule.
I found quite a large lump in my left breast and managed to get in to see my gp the next morning. She has described it as the size of a walnut. Im quite concerned at how big it is.
Rationally, i know it might be nothing, but my mind is racing as to what if it isnt.
Im a kidney transplant recipient and my kidney function is at 15% at the moment and if it is something sinister, then i risk loosing this transplant & not being accepted onto the transplant register.
My head is all over at the moment.

Hi @bella1976 welcome to the forum, you will find a lot of support here. Well, this is going to be a very anxious time for you obviously due to your kidney status. Waiting for appointments and then waiting for test results is generally accepted to be the worst part of the process as the absence of fact causes the mind to go to worst case scenarios. As you recognise, there are a number of benign things this could be, so hang on to that. Many of us, myself included, were given a view of what the lump was at the biopsy stage - the one you are waiting for now. In my case it was an invasive carcinoma and they told me so at the time and that the biopsy would tell us what kind, which was a three week wait. If you do not want to know at that stage, ask them not to offer a viewpoint. Given the likely impact on you if it is thought to be cancerous, might you take someone with you who can be emotional and practical support? If you would like to talk to someone about the process and what it may mean, I recommend that you phone our Breast Cancer Now nurses on 0808 800 6000 between 9.00-16.00 Monday to Friday and 9.00-13.00 on a Saturday. They are kind, knowledgeable and won’t rush you. You may at some stage be assigned an NHS BC nurse but until then, our nurses will help you process the situation. I hope that the appointment comes through very quickly.

Thank you for that Tigress. I have literally just got of the phone with the breast clinic. My appointment is on 9th April, so only a week to wait. I have another appointment that date but am going to rearrange that one. This one if far more important.
I have quite a complex health history, so i pity the poor consultant that gets me haha.
My kidney specialist is on the ball though, so i know ill be in good hands if there needs to be a multi discipline team meeting.

That’s very good news Bella. I wish you very good luck at the appointment and will keep everything crossed that there is a benign reason for the lump.

Hello! I’m new here too! I’m sorry you are going through this and I hope for a positive outcome in your appointment. This is going to sound so cliche but try and do lots of things that help you relax and take your mind off of worrying. I’m 42 this month, in the new year I had a CT scan in a&e for heart attack symptoms and although they couldn’t find a cause for my symptoms they found what looked like a cyst in my right breast but would need further investigation. I’ve not been looking after myself due to a busy work schedule and my gp doesn’t have my new address, I decided in my head it was just a cyst and forgot it. Recently I’ve been unwell with work burnout and been thinking about the CT scan finding and only went to the gp last week. I couldn’t feel it before but can now feel it and have an ache on that side. I did google CT incidental findings of BC and it seems CT isn’t the best diagnostic tool. I was only referred last week so don’t know how long I will be waiting.

Sorry you are going through this, hopefully your appointment comes through quickly.
I think @Tigress is right, the waiting & not knowing is horrible.
Oh i am sorry to hear that. Im not surprised your emotions are all over the place. Do you have a good support system around you?
Im trying to convince myself that the lump in my left breast is a cyst or not something sinister, buts its worrying.
Im trying to keep my mind busy as suggested by @deedee83
