Hey not really sure what I’m looking for with this just wondering if anyone else has had a really long wait for initial breast clinic appointment.
I first noticed a lump in the upper outer quadrant of my right breast on the 28th August. I saw a student GP a few days later and she wanted to wait two weeks until my period had passed and I was further through my cycle to see if it would go away. It didn’t. So I returned to the GP two weeks later where the student and GP were there this time and the GPs body language completely changed upon feeling the lump and she was quite worried and told me if it’s cancer it’s early stages (freaked me out she said this).
I was then referred on the 15th September for an urgent referral to the breast clinic for “2ww” I’ve just had my appointment through and it isn’t until the 26th October. I’m absolutely gutted to have to wait another month which will bring it to two months from finding the lump.
My anxiety is so bad I don’t know how I can get through another nearly 6 weeks.
Hi I am sorry you have to wait so long my wait for the triple assessment was just over three weeks the turn round should be two but at of trusts are missing this target now.
Have a look what your target should be for your area and if it is 2-3 you could contact PALS for support given the long delay.
After the triple assessment depending on what happens you will wait again for test results.
The waiting is really the hardest part I was diagnosed at the beginning of the school hols everything then moves very fast.
This group is amazing please keep reaching out as someone will reply we can’t remove anxiety we have to learn to ride the waves someone said to me which makes sense in a way. Try and distract yourself in the mean time if there are things you want to do do them xx
I’ll have a look into checking what the target is.
I feel like I’ve already been waiting a long time because I had to wait the extra two weeks for them to refer me in the first place to then have my appointment 6 weeks from the referral date just seems cruel.
I also go on holiday soon and was hoping the wait would be over before then so I guess I’m just in my feeling about it! Xx
Hi there i can completely relate. I found my lump at the very start of june and feel like I’ve just been waiting for one result after another since. My biggest piece of advice is to take someone with you to that first appointment. I insisted on going by myself as thought it would all be ok. What I wasn’t really expecting was to be told we’re 99% sure this is cancer. And hearing that news was so much more traumatic being by myself.
Nothing I can say to relieve the anxiety - it unfortunately just sucks. Im currently waiting on results from my second surgery and also feeling extremely anxious. The best I can do is send solidarity and lots of love - you’re not alone
@smudge26 no problem please post ask questions if you need to.
I went on holiday two days after my biopsy and so glad I did it was just me and my little boy husband was still working and best decision I made. It became a yes holiday for him as I knew pretty much the result by the way the team talked and acted with me. I look at the photos I took and one I asked someone to take of us it makes me smile some nice happy memories xxxx go on the holiday xxx
So sorry to hear you’re going through all of this and I hope you hear of your results from your surgery soon!
Thank you so much for your kind words I won’t be going myself, did you find it a bit easier to process knowing it was likely cancer or do you think this made it harder?
I find myself fluctuating between omg it’s probably cancer and I have two young girls who really need there mum to it can’t be cancer I have no family history and I’m only 32 but I know in the back of my mind there’s a very big possibility given the reaction of my GP after feeling the lump!
@smudge26 yes your husband will be allowed in with you. Anything like mine and I have everything crossed it’s not bad news they tell you straight away. Mine then went into details and I then got taken with the bc nurse into a side room for a brew and spent time going through stuff. You get told loads but don’t worry about remembering it all they give you a. Library.
I pray it’s positive news if not we are all hear for you keep us posted xxxx big hugs xxxx
Hi titch just a wee update from today, initially after feeling it the doctor said it was a fibroadenoma but after my ultrasound she said she wasn’t sure and said it was U3. I understand this isn’t exactly bad news but I thought if they thought it was a fibroadenoma it would be a U1 or U2 so a little worried still. Now the wait for the biopsy results
@smudge26 the waiting is the hardest bit, try and not google or chat gpt anything as everything is personal to yourself and won’t help you.
focus on your children and do what you can to get through these couple of weeks.
I am ok thankyou next week marks my half way point of chemo plus I get my wig Tuesday, my little boy (5) can’t wait when I told him tonight after school.
take care keep us posted in the meantime feel free the message if you need to chat xxx
