Thank you for sharing, I hope it has helped get rid of some of your frustration. 28th April does seem a long way of when you want answers but it will come around sooner than you think. At least your team are covering all the bases and discussing with an MDT.
I think I might have said before I was 3 months from finding a lump to having my full diagnosis and the next week I had surgery.
Please remember you can call the BCN nurses to chat about your situation. 0808 800 6000.
You are right, it’ll come around soon enough. I’ve just got to find a way of putting out of my head. Just seems to hang over me.
I will give the nurses here a call on Monday to talk it over with them. I called them after my failed stereotactic biopsy and the nurse was so lovely and comforting.
How are you feeling at the moment? Are you currently having treatment? I’m so sorry that you have aggressive breast cancer. You must have been through so much and here you are comforting me. Thank you
@candy5 I’m doing ok thanks. Had a bit of a rough week after having a zoledronic acid infusion to help protect my bones. Then I had a Covid booster. I’m feeling much better and hopefully back to my ‘new normal’ soon.
I’m passionate about helping others especially at the beginning with tests, new diagnosis etc.
At least the weather is being nice, something as simple as a walk in nature, listening to the birds, watching the clouds and guessing what the shape could be ( loved to do this with my kids on a long car journey) could help with how you are feeling.
Thank you @bellas It makes such a difference being able to speak about it to people who are and have gone through similar and are so supportive.
I received a letter today with an appointment for another Stereotactic Biopsy After my last experience I’m filled with dread and fear. But this time I have asked a friend to come with me instead of being alone. And I know that the team who attempted my last one were all so lovely and kind which helps so much.
I’ve had no conversations with the hospital, so don’t know if they have found something more on the MRI or if they have decided to give it another try to be safe. The last I heard was that my case was scheduled to be discussed at multi disciplinary next Tuesday. I don’t know whether to call them and ask but don’t want to be that annoying person.
I think the waiting is definitely the worst part. I know at my hospital they only have the multi disciplinary meetings once a week. I share your frustrations, I am currently waiting for the pathology report on the lump I had removed last week. My lump was discovered by me about a year ago, if measured about 20mm I did what I was supposed to and had it checked out, GP referred me straight to the hospital. I was seen within 2 weeks, mammogram and ultra sound were done and I was told it was fine, nothing concerning. I went back to my GP in February because the lump was still there and felt like it had grown, I did put off going back because I’d been told it was ok. This time I was not as fortunate, after scans and biopsies I was diagnosed with grade 3 invasive ductal carcinoma which has spread to at least 1 lymph node that was visible on the ultrasound. The lump on the scan measured 37mm. After what felt like the longest 6 weeks of my life I had surgery to remove the tumor and about 4 of the nodes. I opted to have a therapeutic mammoplasy,
I’m now waiting to find out the pathology results of the tissue removed and my head has been through every possible scenario more than once. Have they got a good margin? If it was visible on the ultrasound in 1 node does that mean its spread to more, but currently aren’t visible to the naked eye. My current consultant is looking over my original scans to see if something was missed, but to be honest, if it was missed 12 months ago there isn’t much I can do about it now.
I hope it goes well for you at your next appointment and you get some answers or at least a plan. I’ve spoken to my BCN a couple of times and she has been really good. Xx
@candy5 - I was in a similiar position to you needing repeated biopsies and then a wait for results , it as so frustrating but I was reassured that it was important to get the “full” picture before moving forward with diagnosis and treatment . Once I had a formal diagnosis , things moved very quickly x
Hi @minahmoo I am so sorry about your diagnosis and everything that you have been through. You must be so frustrated and upset that they didn’t do a biopsy last year. The waiting in between is definitely the worst. When I know I have a test or appointment lined up I feel a bit better and then you get landed into waiting for results. I totally agree with you that every scenario goes through your mind? Do you mind me asking what a therapeutic mammoplasy is?
I’ve not been given any contact details of a nurse, probably because I haven’t had a diagnosis yet. I don’t know what will happen with receiving my MRI results because I have the re attempt at the Stereotactic biopsy on 8th and my results of the MRI will be available to view on 12th May. I’m guessing that they won’t discuss my case at the multi disciplinary now until the Stereotactic biopsy results are in. When is your next appointment? Sending you hugs
Thank you @arty1. I do feel very reassured that the hospital and doctors are doing their best to get answers. How did you feel whilst going through it? It’s been over two months now and I am getting weary of the procedures and feel a bit like a body rather than a person with tests being sent through without them being discussed with me. I wonder what has made them want to attempt the Stereotactic biopsy again? Was more seen on the MRI? Or there was talk of another dr reviewing my case to see if they could do the biopsy this way, was this what happened? So many questions. It’s hard when you like to know things. Sending you hugs
Hi @candy5 my next appointment is on Wednesday morning, so not long to go now. A therapeutic mammoplasty involves removing the cancer and some of the breast skin and tissue to preserve a normal shape. The other breast is done at the same time to ensure symmetry. I think it depends on the size of your breasts and size of the tumor for it to be an option. Xx
@candy5 - are you able to chat to one of the breast nurses in your clinic ? I found while I was having the tests and waiting for results I could call the breast nurses and relay concerns or ask for explanations on things , they were very helpful
.
It is exhausting and I felt like time slowed down while I was waiting as it increased my anxiety thinking … no treatment is happening … however it was explained to me that in order to get the full picture it’s sometimes possible to need more biopsies so that your team can properly plan a tailored treatment plan that is specific to you x
Hi all, so I got called up to go for the stereotactic mammogram today (a week earlier than expected so less time to worry). But of course I was really worried.
The same thing happened. Third time unlucky. They cannot biopsy my breast because the calcifications are centrally located and it would cause the needle to go through too much tissue. They tried with another doctor and different positions but they said that whichever way they position me my breast rolls over and they have the same problem. The 15mm area is behind my nipple.
They’ve graded my mammogram a M3 and decided to monitor at 6 monthly intervals to see if the calcifications change.
Obviously I should be pleased that they are not overly worried but I feel so disappointed that they couldn’t get a biopsy and I don’t have an answer
I’m sorry you still don’t have a definite answer. All I can say is if they thought it was something that needed to be dealt with now I’m sure they would be saying that.
It’s not going to be easy waiting 6 months for another review but if you can try to put it to one side until the time comes. If breast cance has taught me anything is that it’s not worth dwelling on things until you need to. Obviously like everyone I don’t always follow my own advice but I try
Take care and thanks for updating us. See you in 6 months.
Yes, it’s not highly suspicious so putting me through a drastic operation isn’t worth it. As it’s likely to be early cancer if anything it would be slow growing and gives them time so see what happens.
Just tired of all the failed biopsies and the stress and worry over the last three months. Hopefully after a few days to recover and adjust I can put it all to the back of my mind for the next 6 months.
Thankfully I have received great support here from you and all of the others who have replied (you will never know how much you all have helped) and speaking to the fantastic nurses on the helpline.
I wish you all the best, lots of love and hugs. See you in 6 months
I’m back again, still anxiously waiting!!! Still driving myself insane.
I got a call from the hospital last week to say that my case would be discussed again at MDT tomorrow.
Today my MRI report became available to read. It says “Significantly reduced sensitivity of the study due to extremely high density of breast. Assessment is limited” dr google says it means that there is a high chance of false negatives and that along with dense breasts means small tumours could be easily hidden now I’m even more worried about these calcifications being more than they are unable to see especially as they haven’t been able to biopsy them.
Also got a pool of blood where one of the cysts was drained. But that cyst had blood and inflammation in it already when biopsied with a benign outcome. But this probably explains the pain I’ve been experiencing since that first biopsy.
I’m hoping that the doctor may see me face to face for an appointment to discuss everything So many unknowns and questions.
Aw that’s not a nice situation to be in I’m full of anxiety waiting for mri and ct scan and want to know treatment plan ring them again find out what is going on what is needed tell them your very anxious about things I’ve got a cancellation for cr scan Tim so happy that’s going ahead and then it’s just the mri left hang in there stay strong try be busy it helps a bit but I really get where your comming from wishing you good luck with things xxx
Thanks for the update. Until the MDT team have discussed your case you still won’t know what is going on. Your case from my limited knowledge is more complicated than my own, when they found a clear lump/tumour in each breast.
The MDT met on Tuesday and I was called first thing yesterday morning with a face to face appointment with the breast surgeon, 30 minute appointment.
Who knows what they have decided because as you say @naughty_boob my case has turned out to be complicated (I never do things easily) and the team may have come up with a different plan going forward to what the radiologist said.
But either way I feel better having a face to face appointment where myself and the consultant can discuss everything.
@daisy69 have you had your ct and mri yet? The MRI was ok. I asked them to play music. The noises are loud but you are face down so I found it ok. The problem I think with my MRI was my period. You are supposed to have it within a certain window which we had timed but the gift of being perimenopausal meant that my period came early which probably threw the MRI out.
Thank you all for your support and replies. I hope you are doing as well as can be. I will keep you posted
Hi glad some things are moving for you glad the mri was okay periods are a nightmare I don’t have them anymore had a hysterectomy 6 years ago I had my ct scan yesterday got my mri on Monday morning mdt meeting will be next Friday they hoping all results be back by then so maybe a week Monday and I will be called back I’m calmer than I was trying to keep busy been with my grandsons today and my daughter and then went and had my hair done xxxx
Hi lovely people thought I’d do an update I have had all tests and I know now treatment plan and I’m off to surgery next Wednesday for lumpectomy but through the nipple and he will move tissue around as lump is in the inner upper quadrant which causes some problems but he said by doing it this way he can maintain the breast line I will have a slightly smaller boob than the other one he said it should not be to noticeable in clothes and bra and i could wear a small prosthesis he said if im not happy with it I could have some plastic stuff after treatment where they inject fat into the area from elsewhere I asked about mastectomy being better and he said no and it’s a good idea to try this and he does think he can take the margins he needs I’m also having all the lymph nodes taken from under my arm and will prob need chemotherapy and def radiotherapy ok so this journey begins has anybody has this type of surgery and were they happy with the results xxx
