Any London - based Young women?

Any London - based Young women?

Any London - based Young women? I live in London and was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 30. I have spent the past year and a half trying to retain some kind of normal life as well as get through surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and now Herceptin.

I have been on one of the BCC younger women’s forums but it was held in Wales and I’m really keen to meet some young women who have had Breast Cancer and live in the London area. Does anyone know of any groups? If not does anyone fancy meeting up?

Hi Apple Hi Apple,

As it happens yes, in fact I have a group of BC pals, all pre-menopausal who live within the London area.

It seems that I keep being pulled in the direction of setting up a support group because where ever I go, I keep meeting BC survivors.

Even on holiday last year, just after chemo, I stayed in a tiny hotel with 3 staff, 2 of whom had had BC. It really is quite surreal!

I have been planning to set up a pre-menopausal support group for ages, although as yet I haven’t had time to deal with it. I am 6 months post chemo, 3 post mastectomy, son’s 2nd birthday this weekend and moving house 11th of May, and currently have nowhere to live! So all a bit hectic at the moment.

I will however in the not to distant future, probably after the move.

You can contact me via:-

phpbbserver.com/breastcancer/viewforum

You can leave me a private message there, same name ; Mrs Salmon.

I live in Greenwich but I am next in central London on 17th as I am treating myself to a spa day. Was planning to see if another BC pal is available to join me for coffee at some point would you like to join us?

hello apple Have you been along to The Haven yet? You should check it out. I’ve been to a couple of meetings for Young ladies with BC and it was good to share our thoughts and experiences with each other. We had quite a laugh about it all too which helps : )

I’ve reserved a place on the Breast Cancer Care Younger Womens Forum in Brighton but thats not till September.

I too was diagnosed at age 30 a couple of years ago. I live in London and could meet up for coffee if you and others are game.

hello there

I live in South West London and have recently been diagnosed, currently half way through chemo. At 39 slightly older but I was definitely young at heart before this and would think my concerns would be affecting anyone pre-menopause.

I did have information on the Haven which I have lost, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Marie

Hi everyone,

my name is Nadia, I live in South London. i was dx about 4 weks ago age 26 and in final year at uni! had a lumpectomy on 29th march and lymph nodes removed. Just waiting appointment at royal marsden to discuss what type of chemo will need.i would love to met up with people who have gone through and going through this experience as i dont think anyone really understands until you have to go through it.

Ok Girls Let’s Do It Right by the looks of things the time is now.

Although it would seem I’m the old lady of the bunch being 38 (37 when dx). Do any of you girls work at the moment? If that’s the case weekends might be better.

Tuesdays are always good for me because I have child care.

Let’s fix a time and place in Central London where we can all meet for coffee. We can make our minds up thereafter if we wish to turn it into a formal support group.

24th anyone?

Love Mrs S xxx

Hiya Mrs S,

Im in Peckham… just a stones throw (albeit in the wrong direction) from Greenwich- I love going to the markets and Museum.

xxsam

Hurrah…I’m VERY pleased that so many of you answered my post! I can certainly make it along on the 24th and really don’t mind travelling to meet you. Are any others free on that day.

Ok I’ll organise something Ok I’ll organise something loose,

I am thinking along the lines of the Meridian Hotel in Piccadilly for coffee, that way if anyone wants to flash their surgery etc, there will be lovely ‘powder rooms’ available to be decreet in.

What do you think - any takers?

Love to all

Hi Sam Hi Sam,

I have a strong affection for Peckham (although I prefer Greenwich) because I went to Camberwell Art College and lived in Peckham for a number of years. Happy days!

We should definately hook up as local lasses, fancy a coffee in Greenwich park sometime?

I can do almost any morning or late afternoon if you don’t mind my little fella being there.

Would love to meet you.

All the best Mrs S xx

Sorry about my spelling! I ment discreet of course!

For Marie Hi Marie,
I went to the Haven last year. Their website address is www.breastcancerhaven.org.uk

There are various therapies available and there is a support group there or there was last year when I went.

I hope you find it useful.

All the very best with the remainder of your treatment.

Delighted! I am so delighted that Apple started this post!

This is all fantastic.

Sammyh we can hook up sooner. Are you reg on other website? Speak on Monday or soon after .

Have a great weekend everyone!

. . . . and me! Hi everyone

Haven’t been on the site for a while so really excited to see there’s a group of young women in London planning to meet. I’m Jo, finished my treatment in December and now getting used to tamoxifen and zoladex. I feel a lot saner about it than I did 6 months ago and would love to give whatever help and support I can to anyone who’s further back in the process (or in fact anyone really!!). And just to share experiences with others who’ve been there.

I’ve been to the Haven but was about 10 years younger than anyone else there - even though I’m now 39 (dx at 38).

Would be great to meet you all - but now back working full time so any chance we can make it later on in the afternoon? Can probably get away from work a bit early but not that early!!!

Hope you’re all enjoying the sunshine (tho’ I now feel so solar powered with the hot flushes that I don’t think I need the sun at all . . . !!)

Love
Jo
