Anybody refused Radiotherapy?

Hi.

Im 44 had 4.8mm invasive ductsl and smaller dcis plus 2 out of 14 nodes positive Er+Pr-her2-.  had mastectomy with clear margins, full axillary clearance and 6 sessions of chemo.

Im very much into alternative treatments but went for chemo.

After speaking to my oncologist and asking percentages of reoccurrence and why I needed Radiotherapy, his response was ‘well we throw everything at it but not sure if it works or not’ I came away not feeling very positive and whether it’s really necessary. I’ve been told as an ex smoker (gave up a year ago) that there is a higher risk of lung cancer on that side if have Radiotherapy and that scares me.

Any views would be appreciated.

thanks xx

Hello,

Congrats for getting over the worse bit.

I have never heard of that  I know there is a higher chance of lung cancer if you currently smoke but not if you once smoked but no longer do. The lungs repair themselves over time and you stopped a year ago so I can’t see how this is the case for you. I could be wrong so somebody please correct me if that is the case.

I just finished my radiotherapy and it was a breeze. The only thing now is that I look like only one of my boobs got any sun.

Hope you make the right decision for you. xxx
