Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good afternoon ladies.

It’s been ages since I’ve been on this forum. I think I am trying to mentally move on from  2014, however, it was this week 2 years ago that I went for my first screening mammogram and the rest is history!

It’s great to see you are all still in touch and getting on with your lives.

Life is pretty good for me at the moment. We are traveling to the uk this weekend to see my older son as he has an exeat weekend from school and then I am taking younger son for his assessment for entrance to another school on Monday. Hoping to see my mum on Saturday as the boys haven’t seen her for ages but she has a terrible cold and so we may have to cancel.

My hair is still very thin, almost bald on the crown of my head! My hair dresser assures me it is coming back slowly, but I’m not convinced. But other than that I’m fine, and being alive is more important than hair.

Hope you are all well and enjoying life.

Just a quick note from St Maarteen wifi hopeless!?? got to give priority to family! Hope you are all well! I see we have heard from tlg how lovely!x

Good to hear from you TiJ and that you are doing well apart from the hair. As you say, it’s minor in comparison with not being here at all but it’s normal to be frustrated about it. Can your hairdresser suggest anything to hasten the process?

lovewine, I’m sorry to hear about your OH and hope that with the medication he will soon start to recover. You have all had such a lot to cope with over the last couple of years it’s not surprising he is now having a reaction.  What an understanding GP you have.

Wildpurl, how annoying to have your trip postponed and to be losing your Friday off. Great news about your daughter though.  Hope you enjoyed your Burns Night snd birthday supper. Do you have a Scottish connection?

Rosie, hope you enjoyed the snorkelling. Looking forward to hearing all about your trip in due course.

SILs parents now home and so far coping remarkably well. Otherwise not much to report here. Long day yesterday with grandchildren. Easy day today, spent couple of hours this morning with friends And the next seasons programme for the Royal Shakespeare Company - which runs until February 2017! What a thought. This afternoon knocked off a couple more churches from Simon Jenkins book followed by painting my nails, which takes me an extraordinary amount of time and they still don’t look presentable till the next day when all the bits of varnish around the cuticles has washed off. Tomorrow lunch with a friend. Next week pretty busy though with 2 full days work, one in London, one in Cardiff, plus grandchildren and other regular commitments. I’ve managed to stay away from the cheese and red wine so far but have succumbed to coffee a couple of times.

Enjoy the the rest of the weekend ladies.

Signing in from copacabana beach Barbados???
We still have 2 more islands to visit and then 3 days at sea back to New York where we hope the snow will have gone!?
Love to you all!

Good morning everyone!
Rosie, I think you are nearing the end of your cruise? I hope it’s been a relaxing fabulous time for you both.
My ES has gone to Czec republic with work yesterday, he’s there until Thursday.
Wildpurl, hope your Paris trip is / has gone smoothly !
Very windy overnight here again- will go down the garden shortly and see if my fence is still upright?.
Joan, hope your week is going well and you have results soon from CT scan.
Cassie, hoping things are not so hectic at work for you now!
My workload has evened out this week thankfully!

Hello dear ladies I am missing reading your posts! At sea from 5pm until Sunday!!!???
Caribbean been a wonderful experience! Especially the rum punch!?? back to reality Monday! Will look forward to catching up!x

What a quiet board it has been this week. Lovewine, I hope your dogs chemo goes well. Disappointing that he has become resistant to the particular drug. I hope he doesn’t suffer too badly from the side effects of the new one. Great that your parents are doing well though, especially when we think back to this time last year. How is your OH doing? Good that you managed to get out over the weekend. It must have been very moving seeing the poor whale in the flesh. Very sad. Re my CT scan, I won’t know until I see the consultant the week after next.

Rosie, you seem to have been very lucky with the timing of your New York stays and the Caribbean has clearly been a wonderful experience.

wildpurl, hope your Paris trip went well and you are looking forward to a restful weekend.  Cassie, how are things with you?

i dont seem to have paused for breath this week. Grandson ill so two days on the trot. Trip to a London a washout work wise since the meeting was cancelled but I didn’t get the message in time.  on the plus side though I spent the time in the British Museum at the Religion after the Pharaohs exhibition which was fascinating and I would otherwise have missed since it finished last week.  But but a tiring day nonetheless with a book group meeting in the evening. Yesterday a conference in Cardiff which meant getting up at 5.30. I’m used to being awake at that time but getting ready to go out is another matter. Today I have a day school on Philip Larkin, which promises to be good but gloomy. Fortunately, and it sounds awful to say it, but the friends we were going to have dinner tonight with have had to cancel because their fridge/freezer has broken down. So a night in dozing in front of the Young Montabano hopefully, if it’s on or something similarly restful for the brain. Tomorrow completely empty!

Good weekends all.

Back in Cyprus! Catch up tomorrow!x

Morning ladies!
Wildpurl, good you have a date for your op- hope the pre op goes smoothly… At least it’s fairly soon!
Rosie, must be nice to be back in your own bed- have you acclimatised to dry land now?, you will be busy catching up with washing etc I bet!?

Lovely photos Rosie! Looks like you had a lovely time. I can drive to Bristol for a meet up and end July/early August is OK for me as far as I know at the moment

Quick reply re meetup. End of July/ August good for me, apart from 23rd July. Lovewine, that price for travel to Bristol sounds outrageous. Which station would you be travelling from?

Morning Ladies,

I hope you are all OK, I did have a lovely birthday treat YD took me to a restaurant in Covent Garden and then on to see Charlie and the chocolate factory, I must admit it would not have been my choice but I am pleased to say it was very well done and the children are very impressive the same was to be said of Matilda which I saw a couple of years ago it was really good.

I have noy started on my mammoth amount of appointments yet except the minor surgery one I have been twice I am attending every three weeks, so we will see how long it continues for. The first ultrasound for the thyroid problem is this Monday coming.

ED & boyfriend and YD & boyfriend are both away this weekend (early valentines treats) its too expensive next week, its really bad how the hotels and fares are hiked up on any school holidays and special holidays.

YD has gone to Copenhagen for the weekend and ED is stying at a spa hotel somewhere on the outskirts of London, I hope all have a nice time anyway. I am looking after GS, bless him.

Snatching a few moments while GS mesmerised by TV (guilt trip) and husband occupied with GD. a belated welcome back Rosie, lovely photos (nice to see your oH).  pity that you have the continuing worrying about the surgery plus the financial issues. Having to go into school every day is quite a commitment even if it is only for a couple of hours. A staff social followed by an open day also seems quite demanding.

Cassie, glad you enjoyed your birthday treat. I’d love to take GD that, but it is nust too fat to go. I don’t think my husband and I have ever been out for Valentine’s Day. In fact very often we don’t even do cards. Hope you have a good weekend with GS. How is school going for him?

Wildpurl, glad your pre op went well and that the mindfulness techniques helped to get your blood pressure down. Yes, I’m booked on the Future Learn course which starts on Monday and looking forward to it. Just hoping I can fit it in

Lovewine, I’m relieved that you have found a more reasonable fare. Although I suppose it may mean that you will lose out on your weekend away. Your shopping trip sounds vEry successful and the pastry delicious.

I didnt get my  restful day on Sunday, SIL was sick so YD and children spent the day with us. Also grandchild duties Wednesday and Today. Planning a relatively quiet weekend but who knows. One of My hospital appts next week has been cancelled so won’t get the results of the CT. Till the end of March now. I was told it was because the consultant was going to be away but since it was for Wednesday, when the junior doctors are on strike I wonder if that is the real reason. Seem to have spent a lot of time on line this week. Spent most of Monday morning trying to book tickets for the RSC. it was the first day of.booking and there was so much demand the website crashed, just at the point where I had entered my credit card details for 5 events. Then spent ages trying to get through on the phone to find that my reservations had been deleted!!! Managed to get tickets but not the seats we wanted. Complaint about the shambles has gone in. Has also  spent quite a lot of time booking four days in Berlin with both daughters. YDs idea. Finding dates to suit all of us was quite a challenge and It was surprising difficult to find a hotel for the one we chose. Having booked the flights I got a bit desperate so made a booking but may change it- cancellation is free apparently, up to the morning of our stay. Hope that really is true. Must go now, had a lot longer to post than I expected. Hope you all have a good weekend,

Hello Ladies,

Rosie I certainly should be OK to meet up at Bristol Temple Mead 30th July, I have my nephew up in London the weekend after next I amsure thats where he lives, I know hes working at Bristol Zoo, I might be able to fit in two birds with one stone.

I had intended to be out and about today with GS but the weather has been really horrible so maybe tomorrow will be a better bet, I quite fancy The Tower of London and the crown jewels but GS would rather go into tower bridge and see how it works, we did briefly see some of the exhibits there on display but not go inside as it was late in the day last spring when  we had our boat trip up the Thame, GS was still living in Norfolk then.

GS has not had any major incidents recently at school but he is very difficult at times just getting him to school can be a complete nightmare when hes in a foul mood, its really not the right school for him and it is quite a distance to travel, there are road works everywhere in London at the moment which makes for very slow progress in the mornings and rush hour. there is not a lot we can do about it though. ED has been accepted on a training scheme at M&S and of course is worried as GS is often very awkward and often ill recently, I have tried to reassure her not to worry and just take each day as it comes.

Rosie what an unfortunate accident I hope your OK teeth are a nightmare when things go wrong.

Morning ladies! July 30th in my diary and looking forward to it already?, I have never been to Bristol- only whizzed past it on the dreaded M5?!
Rosie, I hope your discomfort with your tooth settles down- I agree with the hot/cold - can only drink tea/coffee piping hot and white wine nicely chilled!:coffee:?it’s certainly a worry with recent break ins close to you too , we are in a village but still have our share of burglaries?
I am going to do some peanut butter and chocolate brownies today- couldn’t be bothered yesterday, have developed a cold which OH has brought home from work?, very rarely get colds either!
ES and DIL are calling in later , Chinese New Year tomorrow so I expect they are bringing us our red envelopes with money in- given to parents as a respectful symbol???:email:- what a nice tradition!!
Cassie, what good news about EDs training place- I believe M&S are very good employers too- hopefully life will improve for them, it must be very hard making that long trip to school across the city every day, hope you enjoy your day out today - my boys loved the Tower of London, they also liked HMS Belfast too!
Joan, March seems ages away to wait for your results. But good the doctors are not concerned!
Wildpurl, I expect you are preparing for another busy working week- how long are you taking off after your surgery?
Have a good day everyone!

Good morning all - very wet and windy night here! Sill full of cold too- I have a very “Monday morning feeling”?.
Hope you all have a good start to the week!

Good morning Rosie- slept a little better last night, dosed up with cold products!
How rewarding to spend time with one to one support with your little German pupil.
I can understand your apprehension at your appointment with the surgeon on Friday- well done though in making that appointment ??
Have a good day!? I am very busy today, the wind and rain seems to have eased now thank goodness!

Good that we can all manage July 30th. I wouldn’t recommend lunching in the station area though, it’s very limited and not very nice. But there is a bus from the station forecourt which goes up to the university area (top of Park Street for those who have any knowledge of bristol/ want to do some research now)  about 15 minutes ride)  and there are several restaurants (Jamie’s is good but may be more than people want to pay)  also coffee shops for those who arrive early / to move on to. Or there are places along the waterside (I would need to check the buses for that).

Rosie, how horrible about your teeth, you must have hit them with a almighty clunk. But how wonderful that your dentist has been able to fix them. Hope you are able to eat more comfortably soon. Are you having pancakes today? Well done for booking the surgeons appointment. we’re going to Berlin in May. Just discovered why it has been so difficult to book a hotel, it is their carnival of cultures that weekend which sounds a bit like the Notting Hill carnival but bigger. So although I had thought I could use the booking I had made as a safety net while I looked for something nicer I haven’t managed to find anything at least in our price range. For future reference though Rosie, can you just cancel a reservation and replace it with another for the same dates. I was a bit worried that I would  book another hotel and then be unable to cancel the other.

Lovewine, I like the Chinese tradition of giving money to parents too. It seems to be all the other way here although I guess we have fewer demands on our resources. We had an enjoyable afternoon at the Bristol museums event for Chinese New Year on Sunday (at least once we got in, having queued for 40 minutes). Hope your cold is getting better, it sounds a stinker.

Cassie, what did you decide to do on Sunday? Good news about the training course but I can understand your daughters worries. Pity the school is such a distance away, that must add such an extra pressure in the mornings. Good that school seems to be going more smoothly though.

Wildpurl, I’ve done two days of the mindfulness course now and so far impressed. I like all the additional resources you can look at. Have you used the forums? I’ve looked at a couple but haven’t posted. Also I think it might be rather time consuming. How are you finding it second time round? Hope your week at work isn’t too stressful in the run up to your surgery.

Hello Ladies,

Joan, I took GS on a boat trip on the Thames the idea was to show him the Thames barrier which my father helped to build and then to explain to him what it is for, but unfortunately the trip only goes as far as Greenwich until April but we went anyway and although very nippy he enjoyed himself.

We went for lunch in St Katherines dock and had a look at the yachts moored there we also went to Tower bridge and looked at the exhibition and walked over the glass walkway (he’s not scared of heights) made a postcard for his mum with us both in the middle surrounded by views of London, just for fun then went home exhausted but happy, bless him.

Rosie do these frights never end for you :robotfrustrated: I am sure its either a missed test or one that been spilt in the lab. I hope the teeth are feeling better, I have had no more problems since my root canal treatment dispite the dentist saying it ws unsucessful ! Finger crossed.

Lovewine glad to hear you are feeling better and on the mend, it made me smile about yur cat and two dogs sleeping with you when you were feeling low (nicking your body warmth more like, clever things)

I have no idea about Bristol and places to eat or walk etc, but I will have a chat with my nephew and see if he can be of any help, his manager at the Zoo keeps not replying to holiday requests so its now uncertain when he will be up in London but its meant to be soon.

YD & I have booked a long weekend trip to Edinburgh next month which will be nice, she got some bargain train tickets for £45 return and we booked a two bedroomed apartment which looks cosy. I have not been to Scotland before amazingly, although I have travelled much further afield. I might like to go to the highlands another time.

Rosie, I think asking the nurse tomorrow is a very sensible plan and will hopefully set your mind at rest. As Lovewine has said, it seems very unlikely that they would have delayed calling you if there was anything major amiss, so do please try not to think the worst. I know that’s much easier said than done. The bus stops right outside the station. Of course if several of you are arriving around the same time it might be as cheap to get a taxi.

Lovewine, glad you are feeling better. The Bone Collector is an excellent choice although you will never feel the same about getting in a taxi again.

Wildpurl, glad everything went well at work. Good luck with the op.

Cassie, what a lovely and full day you had on Saturday, though it’s a pity you didn’t get to the Barrier this time. Lovely to be able to tell your GS his GF helped to build it.

Spent the the afternoon at the hospital having lung function tests as part of the investigation into my chronic cough. The appointment letter said it would take about half an hour- it took three times as long. Came out quite exhausted, needing to be revived with coffee (yes, I know I said I was giving it up) and a muffin. now repainting my nails-letter said no nail varnish but really all that was required was one clean nail to put a clip on.  Minor irritation though.
