Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Well, everyone survived the weekend though we are pretty tired. GS went off to sleep amazingly early but then clambered in with us at 11 and spent most of the head down in the bed in the starfish crawling on the rocks position. OH decamped to another bed after GS landed on him. I managed to set off the fire alarms by incinerating the pudding I had bought from Tesco-I had forgotten that their ancient oven only has burn setting- which caused a bit of excitement and a lot of noise before we eventually managed to turn them off. the bits of the pud that weren’t burnt were surprisingly good although I fear the baking tray is not long for this world. The play we took the children to see was Not as good as expected but the children seemed to enjoy it. We also spent longer in Bath than planned because we hadn’t realised it was the half marathon so the roads were closed and we couldn’t get back to the park and ride until the afternoon. Still it was a lovely day and there were several street entertainers to keep the children amused.

Lovewine be it sounds like it’s been a lovely day with you too. You’ve done well to clean out the greenhouse as well as doing your walk. I wonder what has happened to your mouse. How was the chocolate and beetroot cake. They served that at my residential course, it was delicious.

Wikdpurl, you too have been making the most of the good weather. Loved the idea of your OH power washing the lawn. Years ago when the children were small I went on holiday with a friend leaving our husbands in charge. They made a video of them vacuuming the lawn (dressed as Mrs Mops!).

Rosie, what a shame you couldn’t make the carnival. What a horrible dilemma to have- finish reconstruction or  deal with your back problem. It’s good though that the aches in your legs have gone, maybe the headaches will subside too. Pity about the lack of progress with the tiling. Can I pick your brains about holidays in Greek Cyprus? Having thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in The North last year we thought we woukd try the south this year. Ideally we would like an escorted tour which takes in the Msin Archaeological sites (we don’t wantbto drive) but we can’t find one which isn’t outrageously expensive and goes when we wantbto ie September). I wondered whether you knew of any Cyprus based companies which might do one. Alternatively, how feasible would it be for us to base ourselves in Paphos and either go on trips to places like Limassol, Kourion and the Troodos. Mts. or use public transport?

Hello Ladies,

Just a quick hello before going to work, the demo did go well about 5 thousand people attended I would say, I felt quite tired though I was on my feet for five hours or so, I left before the end as I needed the loo and my lower back was aching, we did not really go that far but there were a lot of talkers from up and down the country but mostly London tenants. I am not sure where we will all go if the bill goes through.

I looked after GS on Saturday night as usual which was nice, he is very sweet.

The man who smashed the reception screen was mentally unwell as far as I know he had been taken off our list about a year ago for throwing things at a GP and refusing to leave the surgery, it is difficult because although we obviously have a duty of care, staff safety is paramount. Staff had asked him to go to A&E and also given him the crisis team number, so there really was not much more to be done.

When the government ask for 24 hour surgeries they do not ever take into consideration such behaviour, it is not even mentioned.

I have had one of the receptionists in tears since because a patient has constantly bullied for a prescription that was issued privately, the NHS have limited resources and cannot meet all demands requested.

Some people are blinkered and can only see the smaller picture, unfortunately the staff bears the brunt of an impossible situation where things are beyond the individuals control and the bad behaviour escalates.

On a lighter note the scene you describe Lovewine sounds hilarious, I agree spring definitely feels as if it has arrived, its lovely bright and sunny here this morning.

Glad to hear you have greatly improved health wise Wildpurl and good luck with the lingerie shopping.

Rosie I don’t blame you for not paying the high clothing prices in Cyprus, I expect the variety would not be as good either.

Joan it sounds like you have a lovely time with the grandchildren too, sounds a bit worrying the burn setting on the cooker!

Rosie, thanks for the advice about the holiday, it hadn’t occurred to me that trips might be bookable  through hotels, what a good idea. Thanks also for offering to Bring brochures when you come, that would be great. Sorry to hear you are going to have the hassle of renewing your medical card before your trip, especially since it sounds so difficult. I must say we were surprised that English wasn’t more widely spoken in Greek Nicosia, especially in an international hotel like the Hilton where we stayed that one night. Conversely, we were surprised that it was so widely spoken in the Turkish part of the island. Happy planning for your 40th wedding anniversary trip, I also got married when I was 21, that seems very unusual these days.

Cassie, you did well to stay with the demo that long, I think I would have needed rest/the loo much earlier. It sounds as if looking after GS on a Saturday night is now a regular thing. Your daughter is very lucky to have such support. Your posts certainly give an insight into the difficulties front line NHS staff have to cope with.

lovewine, hope you are surviving your busy week at work.

Wildpurl, hope this week is less demanding than last. Incidentally, I have only just found out that Futurelearn is an Open University scheme, with partner universities all over the world as well as in the UK including cardiff, where I am currently based.

I Started to develop a chesty cough overnight on Sunday. I’d booked to go to a conference in Oxford on Monday and was determined to go partly because I’d paid quite a lot for it so dosed myself up. I survived, just about, but had to go to bed when I got in and after a very poor nights sleep am spending the morning at least in bed in the hope I will be well enough to look after the grandchildren tomorrow. Fortunately the only thing I had fixed today was  acupuncture, which I managed to cancel.

Sadly the day in bed didn’t do the trick, I’m still there coughing like someone with a 40 a day habit.  So husband is doing the childcare today on his own. First time so I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Hoping I’m recovered by Friday when we’re on duty again and to travel to Cambridge for the funeral on Saturday.

Rosie, thanks for the info about the hop-on and off bus, I’ll check it out. I’ve done them in a few cities and like you found them generally, but not universally good. Glad your husband has escaped strangulation so far, I hope it continues. Hope you manage to get your medical card renewed without too much trouble. Lovewine, hope your OH also survives.

Lovewine, I’m so sorry about your dog. I know you knew it was inevitable but it does seem to have come very quickly. I hope your YS does manage to see him to say goodbye. Easter will be very poignant for you.

Rosie, what a pain about the medical card. Honestly, bureaucracy can drive you mad. At least the news is good on your dress. We’ve decided Cyprus is not on this year, the only time we can fit it in around grandchildren and OHs work commitments is September and we just couldn’t face temps of 40C. But I will save your helpful advice for the future.  Now we’re thinking about Ravenna.

Im feeling much better today although I still sound terrible with a really  hacking cough. Hopefully will be up to grandchild duties tomorrow. OH coped pretty well yesterday, although GS managed to get himself soaked through by falling in some water, but I think he’s hoping he won’t be on his own again tomorrow.

Rosie, yes I remember Heartbeat- used to really like it, especially with Nick Berry in it! When we visit Whitby we always visit Goathland were it was filmed! When dad was ill in hospital the actor who played Greengrass was in same ward and was very loud ?. That sounds like a good evening out in Birmingham.
I don’t know where the dust comes from, I couldn’t believe what was on my wardrobe - at least when you return home you can have a secret cull of the glasses when DH is out! ??
Enjoy your takeaway ! We have just had lovely thick bacon sandwiches followed by rice pudding??

Rosie, new number updated Thankyou! Takeaway last night sounds delicious?, certainly wouldn’t get all that here for such a good price!
Hope DH manages to pack his case , just like my OH leaves everything to the last minute?.
We are going to buy ESs bonsai tree and then purchase a new petrol lawn mower ! The wheel fell off the old one and the handle very wobbly??, Es and DIL popping in later this afternoon too?.
Hope everyone is ok, Rosie, hope there are no delays in your travel!

Good morning ladies, Rosie, good luck with your busy day today.?. I have a busy one too, lots of work on?. We bought a very nice Chinese Elm Bonsai tree for ES, it’s his birthday on the 29th but as he was visiting yesterday we gave it to him- it’s not really something easy for us to keep around?.. He was thrilled with it.
Hope everyone is ready for the week ahead! Anyone going away or doing anything for Easter???:airplane:

Just noticed ladies we have over 7000 post!??? must be a record!

7000, wow! Is there a prize?

Well, it was not a good idea to look after the grandchildren on Friday, I spent all of Saturday and most of Sunday in bed. According to the local pharmacist there’s a lot of what I’ve got around and it can go on for weeks! Great. We’re going on holiday with both daughters their partners and the GCn on Saturday (to Tenby). I feel somewhat better today and have managed to get up, shower and dress but am still coughing madly and feeling very wobbly. I think it’s the first time I’ve felt this bad since chemo and it brought that all back. I am going to have to force myself to take things really easily this week, frustrating as that is. I’ve cancelled most things but am hoping to make my appointment with the respiratory consultant on Wednesday, the one postponed from January.

Wildpurl, I hope your threatened cold hasn’t come to anything. What are you making at the moment?

Rosie, you had a busy time before you came away. We have accumulated loads of glasses too, I love engraved glass so get very tempted whenever I see it. My husband is the opposite to yours though, he’s all for throwing things out, I’m the hoarder. Have a lovely time in the UK. Pity the weather forecast is so poor for Easter weekend. It sounds as if your outfit for the wedding is coming along very nicely. Apricot sandals sound very yummy.

Lovewine, glad the bonsai went down well, sounds an inspired idea. How is your little dog doing?

Hope  you all have good weeks.

Joan sorry to hear you have felt so unwell I am sure Tenby will do you good and blow away the cobwebs! We used to go there for family holidays when I was a child.
Wild purl it sounds like you have a few projects on the go and still manage to bake! Lovewine your soap sounded tasty!?
We had kfc last night not good!?
Hopefully will get dress today!?
Have a good day ladies. Do you all have a short week this week?

Lovewine I am so very sorry what a shock for you! Thinking of you over these next very difficult days! At least he didn’t suffer!?X

Lovewine thinking of you I empathise with your pain!???x

In time I am sure you will take comfort in his graceful short departure. I expect the other dog will come round in a few days a huge void for her. I hope she doesn’t flatten the primrose!??Never easy breaking news to our children about a pets departure no matter how old they are. Good luck with that and you must be so realised that your son is safe - what a chaotic world we live in.
Take a day at a time! X

Lovewine, I’m so sorry, you must be devastated. And so sad that your sons didn’t get to say goodbye. But it’s good that it happened so quickly and you didn’t have to witness a prolonged deterioration. You did your very best for him.

It’s a large house, Lovewine, with three bathrooms -we have decided that’s essential if we are to get going at a reasonable time in the morning- and a separate children’s sitting room! I can’t see them using it but I can imagine various adults seeking refuge in it. There’s also a sunken trampoline in the garden. Now that’s something ive never tried. On the other hand the weather forecast is so poor nobody might get to use it OH and daughter went to buy the children waterproof leggings today!

Got to the hospital today for my postponed appointment (for my chronic cough) to discover that it had been postponed again but I had never received the letter. Someone else also turned up to find the same thing fortunately the receptionist was very honest and said this had been a recurrent problem with this clinic and after a bit of toing and fro-ing was able to gdt a registrar to see me. Turns out I have a large hiatus hernia as well as asthma. That was apparently visible on the MRI I had when the Cancer was diagnosed but no-one thought to mention it. Anyway I am now on additional medication for both problems. I don’t think I’ll havevtime to do anything else.

Joan, how maddening about your postponed appt, but thankfully you were seen- will you need surgery on the hernia? You certainly have enough to think about!
Hopefully the weather won’t be too dire- I know rain is forecast here all day saturday?! Waterproof leggings sound a great idea though- especially if going on a trampoline !!!

Lovewine hope it wasn’t too bad breaking news to your sons!
Joan sorry to hear you have another health issue I guess the cancer was more important to treat than the hernia.
I am sad to say ladies I picked the dress up today me tried it on and DH said I looked like a sack of potatoes and very pale! So it has to go back! I think I will get an appointment with a personal shopper in Debenhams!!?

Oh dear Rosie- a sack of potatoes is not a good look!? John Lewis do a very good personal shopper service too if you are close to one, I have ordered lots of things only to find they are not flattering when try on at home- am sure you will get sorted out, you always look very stylish to me???!!
Also East or Phase eight worth a look and they are very helpful for wedding outfits!

Thanks Lovewine!?
