Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Evening ladies. This is just a quickie to say hello. Just got back from my course and quite exhausted. So I’m not going to attempt to tell you about it other than to say there was lots of useful information and it was a lovely group of people. I did feel a bit of an odd one out since everyone else there was either still in treatment (or the partner of one) or very recently finished, but I wasn’t made to feel like that. Three people also had multiple primary cancers or secondaries which made me feel very humble and incredibly lucky.

Wildpurl, good things are going so well. I’m amazed you’re driving so early. Like your chicken soup recipe. How long do you boil the carcass for. When I have tried this the stock never seems to have enough flavour so I finish up adding commercial stock. I suppose I would still get the goodness from the carcass though.

Lovewine, hope you manage to stave off your second stage infection. Like Rosie I have used echinacea which seems to help. My husband swears by gargling with TCP! Your rug sounds lovely.

Rosie, good that there is positive news about the boy in the coma. Hope you haven’t had to provide too much TLC for your OH after his dental treatment.

Right, husband is preparing supper after which I plan to spend the evening watching mindless television in the hope of having enough energy for the grandchildren tomorrow.

Good morning everyone! Not much planned here either as OH going in to work this afternoon?, ES and DIL are on way to Whitby early this morning! I heard fromYS last night who now declares they have renewed their lease on their flat for another 12 months- done as a last resort as him and his friend wanted to move ! The landlord hiked the rent up significantly too?, YS said he had sorted this out a few days ago but had forgotten to tell me!? anyway I am very relieved hes not homeless.!
Rosie, I brushed one of the dogs again yesterday - did it this time in the garden due to the volume of hair that comes out, left the hair for the birds to build nests and I think the entire bird population of Leicestershire will be warm now! I also had several brushes with grumpy cat - she put up with it for a couple of mins before hissing and I got out the knots of fur!
I can’t brush poorly dog as his coat very thin after losing it with the chemo??.
Wildpurl, are you back to work with reduced hours next week? Hope you can relax this weekend too!
Joan, have you a quieter week coming up? I wish we had courses here like the one you have just experienced, I think the medical care we get is excellent but some areas the help with dealing with the emotional impact of BC is non existent- thank goodness for this forum?
Cassie, are you out with GS this weekend?

Hello Ladies,

I am colouring my hair this morning while typing.

I went to the London aquarium with my nephew YD and grandson last weekend for a meal and a wander around Borough Market at London bridge it was really good to see my nephew, he is the one who is now living in Bristol, I was exhaustedby the end of the day but it was nice. ED also joined us for the meal but left us all to the other events.

I am not sure if I will be doing much this weekend I managed to get all the laundry done yesterday so I may just chill today ED will be in touch a little later no doubt to see if I will have GS.

Its looking a little overcast here at the moment, have a good weekend ladies x

Yes it was fine! I booked with booking.com which I always use if possible- sorry for the stress?!! Definitely a senior moment ?. Better check my booking for lunch at the shard after this- might have got that wrong too!

Kirstie, I had the dreaded docataxel along with Fec… The aches are quite awful, I just took paracetamol and waited for it to pass?, I was fine days 1 and 2 and then 3- 7 really ached and very lethargic , a lot of ladies use hot water bottles and hot baths - sadly didn’t work for me!
I can remember when we had chemo before you bought a caravan too, hopefully with the better weather not far away you can have some good trips ! X

Good morning Rosie, I watch the supervet sometimes too- I only watch though if it’s a positive outcome!
Good luck with decluttering again, I am working all day so scuppered my plans for more tidying up?.
Wildpurl, hope your return to the office has not been too tiring!
Joan, have you much planned this week? You always have interesting activities !
Cassie, hope you enjoyed some time with GS at the weekend.

Lovewine, pleased you managed to change your booking and that I hadn’t got the date wrong. Impressed with your cleaning purge, especially after doing a days work. I found myself having a bit of a de cluttering and sorting on Sunday- a friend of mine is taking part in a documentary about our home town in 1966 and asked if I had any photos of her then, since she can’t find hers (having moved around a lot). After a great deal of searching I eventually found some but it made me realise just how many we have and start to prune them. Inevitably I also came across some of me. Quite salutary to see how thin I was then. Whatever happened? What a relief that YSs accommodation is sorted, as Rosie says, one less thing to worry about.

rosie, impressed with you brushing up on your French. How is it going? Yes, we went to the theatre on Saturday afternoon to see a French Canadian black comedy.mim usually not good on these sort of things, I tend to respond to the blackness rather than seeing the humour but although it was quite disturbing and very weird I did laugh. also went to a wonderful art exhibition- Grayson Perry’s tapestries about class and social mobility. Sounds heavy but actually very witty.

Wildpurl, Hope your first couple of days back at work have gone well and you are not too exhausted. It sounds as if you are going to return very glamorous after your beauty treatments. Are you managing to fit in the mindfulness course? I can understand why you decided to do it again, it’s a lot to take in.

cassie, you too with the hair colour. hope you managed a quiet weekend. Has work got any easier and less frustrating?

This week is somewhat less busy than last, fortunately. I’m trying to put into practice at least some of the things I learnt on the course, particularly about eating and exercise. I’m also going to a demonstration there on healthy eating on Thursday morning.

Evening ladies, it has been quite a shock to the system returning to work and I had a very early night last night but today has been better.

kirstie how nice to hear from you. I am sorry you are having to have more treatment, I preferred Docetaxel to FEC and did not have too much pain, I was able to ease it with heat. I did find it made me very tired, though. I hope your aches are starting to ease soon.

joan, your course seems to have given you lots to think about. I am still keeping up with the course (just) and have started another called Why We Post, about use of social media, I may defer starting that until I have finished mindfulness.

rosie the weather is quite variable in Cyprus at the moment! I enjoyed finding out more about your dog and her challenging start in life, it is lovely that she sometimes sees her brother.

lovewine, what a delightful idea for a Mother’s Day present!

Good morning ladies!
Wildpurl, good you are doing so well and coping with your week back - I like the sound of your new course.
Joan, a quieter week for you, hope everything is ok with your daughter and some good news may come out of it all - I can’t begin to imagine the stress of all these procedures etc for her and the rest of your family.
Rosie, hope the French is going well!?, do you have your outfit planned yet? It’s so nice to look forward to such a lovely event.
I can’t believe how much hair I have removed from the dog with my new comb ??, have certainly noticed a decrease in floating dog hairs!
Have a good day everyone! I am very busy again today ?.
ES and DIL have sent me lots of pics of themselves up in Whitby area, it looks lovely- clear blue skies and very cold, they are enjoying themselves.:sunny:?

Rosie, we actually get to eat, not just taste the food. I hadn’t realised that when I went to a previous demo about a year ago and had foolishly booked in for lunch afterwards. What a waste! 28 degrees seems quite incredible, here it’s cold and very blustery.

Wildpurl, I’m not surprised you needed an early night. I don’t think I could manage another course alongside the mindfulness one. I’m just about keeping up but not managing all the practice. What amazes me are the

people who are zooming ahead and well into each week before it officially starts.

Lovewine, what a lovely idea for a present. Berlin is in the middle of May so a while to go but devouring guide books. Great long list of things I want to see but with only three days there will have to be realistic. I’m afraid the news today about ED was sad, the latest IVF, which I’m hoping will be the last, didn’t work. Pretty much as we expected but there’s always that glimmer of hope. Even now I’m thinking, maybe if they give up trying it will happen naturally.

Very wise words Rosie, I will do just that- I cooked him some chicken thighs for his dinner( doggie not dad?)!!

Good morning Rosie. Friday’s do seem to come and go very quickly ! Hope DH retrieved his notebook without mishap ?.
I love your lodging lizard- he obviously likes your house if he keeps coming back in! Good thing you noticed his tail in your shoe! My ES has 2 gecko lizards and they are still here in a large tank in my spare room- he promised he would take them when he got married- 2 1/2 years ago! I think he probarly will eventually, he bred them and they hatched from eggs when he was a young boy?.
I have quite a long delivery run this morning into neighbouring Rutland to a Cambridge professor and his wife- she teaches in a school in inner city Leicester - not the children but the mainly Muslim mums - they are taught English . Both of them are in their 70s and delightfully eccentric, his shirts are so old and thread bare I hardly dare straighten them out to iron them in case the fabric tears even more??, yet they live in a large , chaotic house in s beautiful village! They have 6 grown up children and numerous grandchildren and I am very fond of them. The lady had cancer twice- both different too- 30 years ago womb cancer and about 4 years ago bowel cancer ,she’s doing great . After that I will stock up on bird seed, dog and cat food and may call in Waitrose again for a pecan pastry and my free coffee which I can gorge in the car without having to share!???

Morning ladies, Rosie enjoy the theatre , I like then there were none- one of my favourites.
Off early to do what I should have done yesterday and will definitely have a pastry today!
My sister is having a home check from a dog rescue charity today as she is adopting a 10 month old jack Russell called Buddy?, her elderly jack Russell died 18 months ago and she was heartbroken, I can’t wait to meet him! Hopefully she will pick him up soon?
Have a good weekend everyone and I hope you are not too tired Wildpurl from your return to work.

Lovewine, what a lovely vet you have, her kindness must be a great comfort to you. Hearing about your gecko feeding for your ES makes me realise I shouldn’t moan about the amount of stuff we have here belonging to each of our daughters, at least it’s all inanimate. Hope you got to enjoy your deferred pastry eating. How sad about the lady in your village who didn’t make it, brings it all very close to home, doesn’t it.

Rosie, loved your description of your unwelcome visitor, especially what I assume was a typo about him peeing out from under the fridge! Hope you are enjoying your story telling. I was in my GDs School yesterday being stand in mum at their Mother’s Day lunch. Relieved that I could not only squeeze onto the rather low bench but get up again afterwards!  Hope you enjoy your trip to the theatre.

The healthy cooking demo on Thursday was very good, as was the food produced (apart from the apple cake which was just not sweet enough for me, even though I am managing to re-educate my tastebuds a bit). Apart from the basic principles of the healthy eating approach- at least 50% plant-based, as many colours as possible and moderation- there was a big emphasis on herbs and spices. Also mushrooms and peppers. All things I use quite a lot anyway but will try to increase. Having a bit of a rest this afternoon having spent the morning trekking round Bristol getting ideas for revamping our very tired looking kitchen. Nothing planned yet for tomorrow.hope you all have good weekends.

Good morning Rosie, I was thinking of you during the night and how Mother’s Day must be sad for you being away from your children and of course your mum passing away when you were young too- I think these dates can be very difficult for these reasons - hope you manage to catch up with them via Skype today and enjoy your lunch??. Regarding the play - I am sadly very impatient and if things don’t get going in the first 5 minutes my attention wavers! Am like that with books, films and t.v programmes too?.
I have ES and DIL visiting this morning , be nice to hear about their week in North Yorkshire, YS sent me s parcel which arrived Friday with a beautifully wrapped present inside- am going to open soon?. I will be hopefully speaking to him later.
Joan , I found ikea very good too- also Homebase will do plans and ideas all free of charge as will B&Q . You sound like you have some good ideas with the healthy eating, I may try and look into it myself as I started last year really well, sadly this year my bad habits have crept back in again?, I did make a very nice chicken, carrot and ginger soup last night- very healthy , but then I cancelled it out by baking a batch of peanut butter and chocolate brownies !!!
We have had a hard frost overnight , but it looks quite bright , so we may take the dogs around a local reservoir which is a very nice walk , probarly early afternoon .
Whatever you are doing ladies I hope you have a nice, relaxing Mothers Day??.
I took my mums present to her yesterday and she was so delighted with the photo of myself and my sister (ages 3 and 5) , I bought a wooden heart shaped hanging frame for it too! Must say though we had dreadful pudding basin haircuts which mum always insisted on doing???!!

Good morning ladies, Rosie, I had my CT scan and many tests too this week- SLN operation on the 14th March , we went up to Whitby with ES and DIL for the weekend whilst waiting for the results and my chemo started on 4th April!!
Hope DH gets on ok at the dentist?,
I have a steady day working today , think I may make a beef stew in red wine in the slow cooker before I leave!??
Have a good start to the week everyone !

Not a good start to the week, heard early this morning that someone I have known professionally for many years, and who was very supportive when I was going through treatment, has died suddenly. She had Breast cancer 7 years ago but, although I wasn’t aware of this, she had developed secondary Cancer. However she had started treatment and her death was completely unexpected, even to those who knew of her condition.  A shattering blow for everyone who knew her. And, of course, makes me all too aware of our vulnerability. I’m due to go to a meeting in London on Wednesday where she would have played a leading role. It’s going to be very poignant.

Rosie, what amazing news about your pupil, his parents must be overjoyed. Sorry you are suffering with aches and pains, it does sound as if it’s the medication. Hope you can get it changed when you see the oncologist. Re the kindle, I move the books I have read into the cloud. That way I only have a few books on the device so it’s hard to miss the new ones. I do sometimes try to buy a book I have already got. Fortunately kindle tells me that very politely.

Sister in in law staying at the moment so not much time to post.

Rosie, will be thinking of you at your appt today?- at least you can be reassured by the X-rays and tests . Hope DH makes some headway with the insurance company.
Joan, thinking of you too on a difficult day in London.
Its forecast heavy rain and snow here today and it is pouring !!- am going to get very wet on morning dog walk as well as my work?, definitely need the spring now!?
Wildpurl and Cassie, hope all is well and work isn’t too hectic this week,
Kirstie, how are your aches and pains this week? Hopefully much better.

Hello Ladies,

Glad to hear your tests were all OK Rosie and not having to be seen again for 3 months, shame yours meds and insurance company are still causing you problems.

Lovewine sorry to hear about the flooding in your area, we have had plenty of rain in London but the weather has been mild and sunny at the begining of the week.

I had a lovely mothers day weekend, spoilt by each of my daughters, brunch shopping and a glass of wine on Saturday with ED and a Philleas Fogg themed afternoon tea with cocktails instead of tea, in a teapot with cups and saucers a big stand with tiny sandwiches and wraps and a lot of very naughty cakes there was also a very good pianist /singer. I must say I really enjoyed it.

This week at work started badly our receptionist got injured by flying glass when our reception window was smashed by a man, it was hardened glass but obviously not hard enough. Poor lady is back in work today but it is so shocking for staff, I hope we manage to get it fixed soon.

I have been busy attending a meeting last night at our local town hall in comnnection with the proposed govenments bill to change the rules around council and housing association housing, I will also be demonstrating on Sunday. I probably should not say too much on this forum or it will be classed as inaproppriate. Needless to say I am not happy.
