Rosie , happy anniversary ?? did DH finally remember or did you drop some subtle hints ! Hope you manage to celebrate it at some point ?
Busy day again for me today !
Had a nice evening at ESs - bought me a lovely orange tree for my garden and also gave me an envelope with 100 euros in it to buy myself something nice in Menorca !
Hope everyone is ok.
Lovewine, in case I dont get on the board tomorrow, have a wonderful holiday. Hope you find something nice to spend your birthday money on.
Rosie, love your rose in the lunch box. What a good idea. Productive too, although like you I wonder how OH managed to work after the champagne. Belated Happy anniversary. We have the big one coming up this summer. Being a bit tardy decuding what to do for a family celebration. My current thinking is to hire a narrowboat for the day on the Kennet and Avon canal and stop off at a pub for lunch but havent actually done anything about it. Thank you for trying to find out about the research project we took part in.
Good news this week about the tests which will enable more women to safely avoid chemo. And the news about the effective use of immunotherapy for metastatic breast cancer.
Good morning ladies , thank you for the good wishes ?
Rosie we fly at 6.00 a.m, so we decided to stay overnight !!
I am very excited now , but getting slightly anxious ?, silly things like forgetting things and feeling travel sick!!? have been told by several people to pick up some Bach’s herbal rescue remedy ? Supposed to help !
Rosie , enjoy your trip back to Worcester , looks like the weather here in the Midlands is going to be fairly dry, love the tip about the hunger strike tactic - I have put cheese and ham on the top of food but not the bottom - great idea?!
Joan , my mum and dad celebrated their golden wedding about 6 years ago and we booked a narrow boat also for the day , it was lovely and they really enjoyed it, we took food on with us and moored up on a lovely stretch of the Oxford canal ( here in Leicestershire !!) and champagne and cakes of course !! The boat had an oven so we bought nice nibbles from M &S and reheated them one slight blip was my OH was steering and we went in a shallow part of the canal and ran aground ?, did get going again though after using the long pole and much swearing !!! This was before the champagne too.
I have one delivery with work this morning, plus elderly aunts groceries to take to her , then I will pick up some bite cream Rosie - had spray but didn’t think about the cream - thankyou , also my work banking to do .
We have WiFi at the apartment so will hopefully be in touch !
Cassie and Wildpurl hope things are ok with you , have a nice weekend whatever your plans !
Getting up now to do my last dog walk for just over a week - I am going to miss them terribly I know !
Have a wonderful holiday lovewine, you work very hard I am sure you will find it hard to unwind for the first few day, Happy Birthday! The canal boat sounds like great fun, I really like getting out on the water given the chance.
Rosie I loved the rose being mistaken for a chicken leg, very romantic of you and typical that he thought it was food.
YD is currently on holiday with her boyfriend in Thassos, I am a bit jealous, its time I had a holiday the short break in Jan seems a long way away now.
GS is back at school and ED has been ill with a tummy bug so he had to go back to school a day late, I re-arranged his orthodontist appointment and could not get another appointment until August :womanfrustrated:
I am taking my cat for his injections tomorrow in a new dog trolley that I bought I hope it goes well, constantly carrying him in his cat basket is a nightmare, it is heavy and awkward to carry and I actually feel like I am dying by the time I get him there. He has lots of visits at present because he is still on a prescription diet, he has lost over 200gms so far which is quite a bit for a cat I guess, he nips me when he’s hungry though which is not good.
EB is having his second round of chemo on Monday, he says he feels ok at the moment but was very sick initially, I am not going to tell him the more he has he will probably feel worse. I have no idea of the type of chemo drug he is having so its likely to be very different than what it was like for us, he seems have only 3 more to go, so a much shorter course than I had and they are not sure if he will have any radiotherapy.
Have a lovely weekend if I on’t manage to get on the thread again this weekend
Good evening ladies ! Had a smooth trip to menorca yesterday, Rosie, i had about 3 hours sleep at most the night before our flight?like you i was worried i wouldnt wake up!
Loving it here, the apartment is beautiful, spacious , on a small site overlooking the harbour one side, the other side looks in to the gardens and pool area.
We have enjoyed eating out and walked to Mahon today , really nice town.
Think i am finally learning to unwind!
Rosie, hope you are happy with your hair cut and feel better for it?, do you have much planned this week?
Cassie, hopefully you can get away on holiday soon, hope your EB is coping ok with the chemo.
Joan , are you ploughing through your new books yet !?
Wildpurl, hope you are ok .
Not sure what we have planned for tomorrow, just being in the sun is lovely!?
Lovewine, your apartment sounds lovely. Can we expect some photos soon? Good you are finding yourself able to relax, it can take quite a time. I loved your account of OH and the narrowboat. I have now booked our day trip so hope it doesnt happen to us. We have been on several canal boat holidays but several years ago now so Im hoping its a bit like riding a bike ie once youve mastered it you never forget. There are no locks on the section we will be on which is a shame in that they are the most interesting bit but on the other hand they are also the most challenging in terms of controlling the boat. Started on one of the books, about Neolithic Britain. Interesting but not one to read in bed. Unfortunately this week I managed to lose my Kindle in London (well to be honest I think it was lifted from my bag which I had left in a supervised cloakroom (I wont say where). So I will have to get another one; I like proper books for non fiction but much prefer the Kindle for anything else.
Cassie, I nearly sent a message of commiseration to you for having another chest infection before I realised the system had taken me back to some old messages! Why does it do that now? I cant remember having the problem until a few months ago. That would have been very confusing to receive. How did the cat trolley work out? I hope EBs chemo doesnt affect him too badly, but as you say, if its anything like the treatment we had, the sude effects do tend to build up. Hopefully he will be given something to help with the sickness.
Rosie, a flying visit this time and you seem to be packing a lot in. You have also brought some hot weather with you, although I guess nothing like the temperatures in Cyprus. Your canal side lunch sounds lovely. Is it actually on a boat? Once your school term ends will life get easier for you and OH or will it just be differently demanding?
Wildpurl, I imagine you have been doing quite a lot in your garden. Has the pool project started again?
i hope you all have good weeks. I have an early evening work related event in London on Wednesday and wont be home till nearly midnight. Cant say Im looking forward to that. I was supposed to be going up to Liverpool on Thursday too but think I will have to give it a miss.
Just sent a long post and it has disappeared ?!
Rosie , canal cafe bar sounds a very nice place to visit ! Maybe next year we should meet up in Worcester ?
I have bought several things with my birthday money including a lovely linen dress off a local market today - the elderly lady seller saw me looking at them and found my size without my asking , she whipped the dress over my head , elbowing and cursing her husband out of the way of the mirror - seconds later and 20 euros lighter I was the proud owner of my Menorca dress!! I love it?
Joan , sorry too you had your kindle taken , makes me so angry when others think they can take whatever they like?
Hope you are not too tired from your long day.
You will definitely enjoy your canal boat day.
Love Menorca, finding it very relaxing and quiet .
Good evening ladies , really enjoying my week off and Menorca is beautiful - am certainly learning to relax now , apart from I have had 4 phone calls / texts since I have been here from clients asking me to collect their Ironing ??!! I told them all I was away , but one admitted today she texted me in case I was too busy on my return on Monday to fit her in , so she thought she would make sure I knew while I was on holiday !!
Have a good trip home Rosie , it’s certainly got warmer here each day we have been here , so I expect Cyprus will be hot on your return!
Hope everyone is ok?
Lovewine, how inconsiderate of your clients to text/phone you on holiday. Some people are so inconsiderate. I expect that means you will be really busy when you get back. Hope you manage to hang onto that holiday feeling for a couple of days at least and that the weather will still be fine and warm here so it wont be too much of a shock and you can continue to make use of your bargain sundress.
Rosie, you did well on the sundress front too. At least in Cyprus you can be sure they will be useful. Hope OH enjoys the book. Enjoy the talent contest, I expect you are already there.
I am looking forward to a productive but relaxing weekend. We have had scaffolding round our house for the past 3 weeks (its being painted) so I havent been able to get the beds planted. Lots of pots to plant out too. Also need to trek into Bristol looking for earings for EDs birthday. She normally wears sil er, which is easy, but thus time she has asked for gold, and it has to be matt. Not so easy and probably quite expensive. They also have to be quite small and non dangly so she can wear them for work. So wish me luck. Hopefully I will also have some time to sit, in the garden preferably, and read my replacement Kindle.
Enjoy your weekends ladies, whatever you are doing.
Morning Rosie ?, yes we obviously had the same idea with the sundress! I bought the blue one and also one with sailing boats on a cream background which I returned as the colour didn’t suit me well.
We also found ants were always marching around the kitchen on holiday - left anything out just for a minute and they were straight to it in a perfect line?!!
I sympathise with the heat issue too, I know we get fed up with the weather in the U.K and I loved the climate in the Med, but not sure I could tolerate the heat in high summer!
Am off to see mum and dad this morning , they seem ok on the phone, then not much else planned other than a trip to garden centre later!
I was unsuccessful with finding a birthday necklace , have seen some online I may consider , but not quite the same?.
Joan did you find your daughter some earrings ?
I am trying very hard not to think of Monday and work?, I have 7 clients booked in and they will all have twice their usual amount - which based on their usual loads gives me a working day of at least 14 hours ?- pre BC I would have done it , now I will work until 6.00 p.m and leave the rest !
Have a good Sunday everyone , Rosie I hope the unconventional friend visit is enjoyable !
We got talking to several ladies in the evenings walking their dogs whilst away and they were all ex teachers who had moved to the island !! They were all lovely , slightly eccentric too?!
I hope you have not undone all of that relaxing in one day lovewine. :womanfrustrated: I cannot believe that your customers text you knowing you were away!
Wildpurl you are looking very well welll done with the skirt it suits you well.
EB is barring up well so far, but ED has acute tonsillitis and has a lot of pain in her neck ear and head, hopefully she should start to ralley soon.
Just going to have a look for a holiday, wish me luck x
Love the photos Lovewine, you and OH look very relaxed and the place looks lovely. What a pity you had to come back to such a busy day though.
Wildpurl, you look very elegant in your new skirt. Sorry to hear you have a cold, hope it clears up soon. Did you manage to get all your container plants in?
Cassie, what a shame ED is poorly. Tonsillitis is so painful. I hope it doesnt drag her down. How nice for you to be planning a holiday. You certainly deserve one. Glad to hear EB is coping with the chemo.
Rosie, I hope the problem with your pool was only a matter of low water level. And no more surprises lurking in your food cupboards. I dont think I could stand even 27 degrees.
Had a rather frustrating time looking for earrings in Bristol on Saturday- discovered that the small design jeweller I have bought stuff from before for a reasonable price closed down a month ago and there was nothing in the other shops- a couple looked too expensive to even go into. Trekked across to another place I know sells handmade local jewellry, no luck there either. Finished up at the goldsmiths at our local craft centre, which only had two designs, both very small. However he is going to make me a larger pair, and within our budget. Just hope daughter likes them. Sunday managed to do some gardening and although too chilly to sit out did get a bit of reading done. I think I will be especially grateful for the Kindle on Thursday. I have to go to Cardiff for a meeting and just discovered that whereas I can normally get a direct train from our local station this time I will have to change three tomes going over and four times coming back!
Good morning ladies , YS and GF arrived on time last night and both took up residence on my beloved swinging chair immediately !? Rosie I will definitely have to share our time slots !
At least the weather is good so my hosting requirements are not needed too much as we will be outside and of course I am out at mums tea party for part of today !
I certainly will make use of my Menorca dresses in the next few days I think !
Just checking our meet up date - is it 4th August ? Will book my train ticket shortly !
The weather has been very hot since Friday I unfortunately managed to get burned on Friday which is rather uncomfortable in those awkward places the back of my arms and the top of my back I have kept covered since which is sensible and had after sun and aloe vera on but it feels like a bruise. I went to a pick your own farm yesterday and have been busy since making strawberry jam and red current jelly. YD BF and his niece came along which was very nice.
Work has been very busy last week and I have been going in early each day to cover reception before managing to do my own work.
Have a good week ladies, I have not managed to book a holiday yet Rosie my PC has been on a go slow and I do not have the patients for it, hopefully it will be ok soon.
I have just booked the tickets for our meet up in Oxford and look forward to seeing you all.
Rosie I too carry factor 30 and had applied it three times but still got burned I was out for about three hours on Parliament hill playing scrabble and having a picnic with ED she lives 5 mins from there I am regretting going though, its very uncomfortable and its difficult to find things to cover that are cool and don’t need too much ironing!
Sorry to hear about your sunburn, Cassie. I hope it is feeling a bit easier now. I dont think I could contemplate jam making in this heat. Well done you, though, especially having picked the fruit yourself. Home made jam is so much nicer than shop bought as well as cheaper.
Thanks for booking the restaurant, Rosie, I wonder if they will respond with a bottle of Prosecco. How is your leg?
Hope you managed to get some time in your swinging chair, Lovewine, especially after your hectic week. I can see its immediate attraction, though. How did the tea party go? At least this week should t be so busy. Ironing in the heat not too pleasant though. At least you have your sundresses.
We had a lovely day out on Saturday with SIL in Wales. When we went out with her earlier in the year we got lost because a main road was closed and eventually finished up going over the Black Mountains where we suddenly came to the most stunning view. We promised ourselves we’d go back when the weather was better but were not very confident we’d find it again. Fortunately we did and had a lovely stroll, plus a sit on some rocks just gazing. Very restorative. And the weather was perfect, sunny and warm but with a lovely breeze. I’m already struggling with the heat here aa d not looking forward to my afternoon working on the Pier Archives- its a small room, no air connditioning or fan and small windows. So it may be a short session! Also wondering whether I can face another trip tto Cardiff on Friday. Last weeks was exhausting-4 trains plus an hours replacement bus service, with a bit of a rush at each change, queues and overcrowded trains. Doing all that again in the heat is not a pleasant prospect. We shall see.
Good evening ladies ,
Cassie , sorry you are sore with sunburn , it’s very painful , YS and GF got burnt too on Saturday and it wasn’t even very sunny !
Rosie , thankyou for making the booking., I will book my train tickets too this week, can’t believe it’s nearly a year since our last meet up !
Joan , I love the Black mountains , we used to drive through the area when we went to Pembrokeshire and loved it , it’s very unspoilt . Certainly don’t envy you stuck on a train to Cardiff if the weather is hot.
I have been busy but not as bad as last week thankfully , although tomorrow looks quite horrendous ?,
We really enjoyed our afternoon tea , lovely sandwiches and cakes and mum really enjoyed it ,it was nice for her to get out for a couple of hours without worrying about Dad .
The sunburn is less painful but still very angry looking, not good.
I arrive at 10.50 Rosie I though I could go for a wonder or coffee, just coming for the day this time as everywhere was so packed booking for overnight or to get in anywhere was almost impossible its obviously a very popular place to visit very pretty. I must admit I had no clue where I was going either YD was my sat nav.
I have dropped a pin on google maps this time so hopefully should be OK.
Rosie , yes we did meet at the cafe near the castle , will book my tickets tomorrow .
Have been so busy again today , did manage to meet up with the dog walking group for a lovely evening walk though !!!
