Good morning ladies , well my sister is off to Howarth in Yorkshire Dales and my dog walking friend is going to Seahouses and Farne Islands for a week too , hopefully the good weather will last .
I went with OH and dogs yesterday evening down to Foxton locks and had a nice walk and a sit in the pub garden watching the boats , it wasn’t too busy as it was early before most people come out for the evening!
Rosie , hope you can avoid the snakes ! I think you said it’s not long before you return to Worcester ? Mid July ?
Better get up and walk dogs before it gets too hot!
Have s good weekend ladies and enjoy the sun☀️
Its raining. OK, very gentle and I dont exoect it to go on for long but its wonderful. Also cooled down quite a bit. Tomorrow were back up to sun and 29degrees but great to have some relief even though weve had no dramatic encounters with snakes or cockroaches. The weather should be good for your sister, Lovewine, and a great opportunity for your friend to make the most of the Northumbrian beaches. Maybe even venture into the North Sea. I hope your father hasnt had any repetition of his dizzy spell. I expect you, unfortunately, will have lots of ironing again this week because of the hot weather, so probably early mornings again, although maybe some of your clients are away?
Cassie, glad your sunburn is less painful. Hope by now it looks less angry too. A shame you cant make a weekend of your trip to Oxford like last year, but it does get very busy and of course the exchange rate makes it even more attractive to tourists from abroad. How are ED and EB?
Wildpurl, hope you are able to make the most of the weather and that the pond is proceeding. Got the last of my planting done this morning. Now for the weeding.
Rosie, what a shame your train doesnt get in a bit earlier. I havent checked mine yet. Last year it was a rail replacement from Didcot so I hope its not the same this year, had enough of complicated journeys, having decided I would go to Cardiff on Friday. Fortunately it was well worth going but the travelling was tiring. Bit fed up with Great Western Railways now, went to London yesterday and both ways the trains we had booked on, and reserved seats on, and which were straightthrough, were cancelled. So going up we were late, coming back involved mad dash along the platform at Paddington to get an-earlier train, and another mad dash to get a connection, not what you want at the end of a long day. Again fortunately we had a good day- met ED and her partner for lunch before going to the British Museum together to an exhibition, which was delightfully cool and uncrowded, as well as interesting. Tomorrow its another warm afternoon in the archive office-which unfortunately isnt on the pier itself, Rosie, then London again on Tuesday. Realised I dont have enough hot weather work type clothes but too hot to go shopping.
Stay cool ladies. Will check my train times now.
My train is due in at 10.45 so a station meet-up sounds feasible for at least some of us. wouldnt recommend coffee there though.
Evening ladies , clear blue skies and 29 degrees for us again ! I enjoy it when I am not working , it’s been quite difficult again , worked 10 hours today , am very tired now .
Rosie , at least the cockroach problem is sorted !
I have also been wearing my Next sundress and also my Menorcan purchases!
Joan , hope you can find time to source some summer clothes - especially as they all have sales on at the moment!
Good Evening Ladies,
How annoying with you delivery disaster Rosie, I must admit I have boycotted Next altogether after very nearly having the police called while in there once! A few years back my brother who has sadly passed away bought a pair of black pajamas for me for Christmas, I was not keen on black so took them into the Angel store to get either a refund or credit note. I waited over half an hour because the sale was on it was very busy, only to be told no exchanges or refunds today, sorry the sign had fallen down that should have been displayed to explain this fact. I became annoyed and said could they please make an exception as I had stood in line for so long and it was not my fault they had failed to display no exchanges today, they flatly refused and I slid the bag containing the pajamas across the counter saying keep them then and don’t bother about the refund, the assistant called the manager, not much older than a teenager who then accused me of throwing the bag in the assistants face. I asked them to replay the CCTV and they would see for themselves that was totally untrue, needless to say they declined. I have never set foot in the store since and the particular branch has closed down. I am not a pushover by any measure but will definately stand my ground with anybody, I was probably menopausal at the time too looking back, which brings me onto the heat, yes its been quite unpleasant in London it’s a little cooler today but it has been too hot to be comfortable and to sleep well. There are a lot of storm flies about this evening so we will see if the rain is about to come.
A very early good morning from me! OH has been starting work at 6.00 a.m during this hot weather , I get a cup of coffee and a chocolate biscuit in bed but can’t sleep again!
I walk the dogs at 6.45 anyway . It has been hard to work in the heat ?, we did go on our dog walk last night, but it was an error on our part ?, we abandoned it 15 mins into the fields , it was too hot , then Kipp laid down and wouldn’t get up , had to pick him up and drop him in the full cow trough to cool him down with the water !! My old lady who is 12 now and I generally don’t take on the Wednesday walk ( OH usually brings her down to meet us at the pub garden) she plodded along and was fine , younger dogs really felt the heat.
Then my friends dog hit an electrified fence with her tail and really squealed, we were very hot and hassled and couldn’t wait to get to the pub and have a chilled glass of wine!
Rosie , how annoying about Next , I hate bad customer service and I think Next fall into this category at times?, in these bad times for retail I should think they need to improve !
Cassie, I agree, how appalling to be treated this way … not surprised you shop elsewhere now!
Rosie, 37 degrees is too much for me!! My friend returned last week and joined us last night , she liked Paphos- said it was unnerving as there was a murder just around the corner from their hotel… a hit and run involving a Russian ??
Rosie, Happy Birthday to DH and have a lovely evening ??!
Joan and Wildpurl hope all is well.
Good morning ladies , it was 30 degrees here yesterday , very hard when wanting to do things !
Fortunately regarding housework I have a lightweight cordless Vax which doesn’t take much effort and I do not have carpets downstairs either !
I do enjoy the weather though , the long, dark winter months remind me not to complain too much☀️?
I know Oxford reasonably well and have eaten in the Ashmolean cafe several times and it is very nice , I also love the museum ! I will fit in with everyone else as I really don’t mind ?.
Rosie , my friend will return to paphos as she wasn’t put off by the murder- in fact our small village had the awful murder of the elderly lady by a 20 year old who is now been to trial and was sentenced to 35 years .
I have one delivery today and about an hours work. Am going to brave the M&S sale as I have an awful per una top to return , don’t know what I was thinking when I bought it?! I am going to treat our bed to an Egyptian Cotton sheet reduced to half price - if they have any left of course ! Their website keeps crashing with the sale.
Wildpurl, I know how time consuming it is watering , I find it very tedious after a long working day, I sometimes do it early in the morning instead .
Have a nice weekend everyone , enjoy the sun if you can☀️?.
Good morning ladies , I had a successful shopping trip yesterday - bought a lovely crisp cotton sheet from M&S in sale and also a duvet set ,washed them yesterday and put them on the bed and they felt lovely ! Still slept poorly though as very warm?!
Rosie, ouch , a sore nail bed doesn’t sound very nice at all?, how is your leg now?
Also did DH have a nice birthday and a good evening ?
Wildpurl , it will be nice for you to have that extra time , it really catches up with you when you are full on at work and it’s nice to have some time to yourself .
Joan , expect you have had a busy week, do you have plans this weekend?
Cassie, hope all is good with you and your family , how is your brother coping?
I have a quiet day so far ( hoping it continues!), dogs to walk before it gets hot, bit of housework and a trip to village butcher for some things for a bbq later.
Of course it’s the big match this afternoon- everywhere will be deserted I would think!
I will watch it , not sure if I can watch if it’s another penalty shoot out though !!?
Good Morning Ladies,
I thank you Wildpurl for the heads up for the bed linen at Soak & Sleep I treated myself to a light taupe set for my bed, I like neutrals so they should fit in well, the last Egptian cotton ones I purchased from Northern Nights on QVC they seem to be quite expensive now from there but I cannot knock the quality, they are still in very good nick.
EB has had a couple of days in hospital last week but is home again now, so fingers crossed.
I did manage to book a holiday at long last, we are going to the Italian Lakes, Riva on the18th July I am hoping it will not be too much hotter than here!
I am planning on meeting with my friend to do some dog walking and then later meeting up with ED to order GS’s new school uniform. I attended his sports day yesterday and took part in the tug of war gainst the teachers, we won of course, there were far more parents than teaching staff.
Good evening ladies , I have found the new sheets and duvet set much more comfortable , but haven’t slept any better either Rosie?. Hope you had a nice meal .
We have had a fairly quiet day, picked some gooseberries and white currants from our garden and OH made some very tasty jam.
I also watched the match , we will rearrange our walk on Wednesday so we can all watch the semi final !
Another week begins ladies ?
Sorry I havent posted this week. Been quite busy workwise and also had to prepare for visitors staying Friday and Saturday.
Re the meet up its great that you can get an earlier train Rosie, so that we can all meet at the station. Wildpurl, can you remember which cafe you went to in the Ashmolean, the one in the basement or the one on the top floor, which is rather posher. I used to walk past the museum on my way to work, it takes about 15 minutes from the station.
Rosie, I dont know how you manage to do anything in those temperatures. I feel limp in the heat we have had here, which has been max 31. I spent yesterday chasing shade in our garden, wearing a flimsy kaftan I normally wear as a summer dressing gown, and hoping we didnt have any visitors. Managed a small amount of gardening in the evening, still wearing kaftan. Sorry you are having such problems with your left knee, fortunate that you are sering the surgeon soon. Your finger nail sounds painful. Is there anything that can be done? Do you know why one of your toenails has gone black? Have you damaged it or is it an infection. I have problems with three of my finger nails. I should probably get them checked out but am worried that I will be told to stop wearing nail varnish which would mean people seeing how bad they are!
How lovely to be able to pick our own gooseberries and whitecurrants Lovewine. And well done OH for making jam in this weather. It must be a great relief that your dad hasnt had any recurrence of his dizziness, perhaps it was just the heat.
Cassie, you may find the Italian lakes are actually a bit cooler than here! Glad your brother is out of hospital.
Wildpurl, all that watering at the end of a working day does sounds arduous. Good idea to have a day to yourself with all the demands from work.
My Qi Gong session this morning was cancelled which I was rather relieved about since it gave me a bit of extra time in a rather busy week. We are going up to Stratford on Thursday to the theatre, not something we normally do during the week but it was the only day we could all manage. Im hoping to look out for some smartish hot weather clothes since have another trip to Cardiff on Friday. Fortunately the tunnel should be open again now so the journey should be easier.
Hope we all have a better nights sleep tonight, especially those with splendid sheets. Now to start the dreaded watering!
Good morning ladies , Rosie , my swinging chair has been my best purchase for years! I am getting so much use out of it ?, it isn’t quite as hot this week , but still sunny and 25C which is much nicer .
Mum and dad are not too bad , except they can’t sleep with the heat , they have a lovely summer house which is in the shade and very comfortable , so Dad spends his days there , mum as always dashing about ?!
Well everyone will be glued to the match this evening , fingers crossed for a win , how uplifting it would be if they made the finals!
We will do a shorter walk this evening , a very quick glass of wine and fish and chips !
Joan , I also had a lovely image of you floating around in your kaftan?, enjoy the theatre tomorrow.
Better walk the dogs now ??, a fairly quiet week for me working which is very welcome after a very busy month!
Morning , Rosie I also went upstairs to watch my serial killer documentaries after the second goal?, I thought they were different too in the second half … think the country will be rather subdued today , although of course there is President Trumps visit to look forward too !?
Have had a lovely quiet week , am sure it will be back to normal next week!
Joan , have a good day in Stratford .
Rosie , a long day for DH then , hope it goes well.
Cassie , not long for your holiday , bet you are really looking forward to it now ?
Wildpurl, enjoy your extended weekend and spend some time relaxing !
Mum and dad coming up later, they will be disappointed about the football as mum is a big fan!
Good evening ladies , Rosie , what a nice few weeks you have planned and lovely to have all the family together ! Bet your YG has really grown since you last saw him.
Nice too to have some time to yourself , I enjoy time on my own and rarely get bored ! In fact after BC I said never again would I complain about being bored as I was just happy to do normal things !
I am itching to paint a chest of drawers I picked up in an antique shop , it’s too hot , so it will be a project fit late summer - doubt though I will be able to wait that long
Dad is a good driver at the moment. But quite sedate ?, they don’t really go far these days , local supermarket and visiting friends , just nice to see him independent ?
Not much to report today as I have been very lazy and sat in the garden reading , except dog walking earlier of course !
Hope you are all enjoying the nice weather
Well I had high hopes of todays match; even though England are out I had Croatia in the sweepstake organised by ED’s partner! Double disappointment. We didnt watch it though, decided we couldnt just loll around at home two days in a row so went to a NT house near Exeter. Although we hadnt known this in advance they had a most interesting exhibition related to the anniversary of the first women getting the vote, based on two of the Ladies who lived there, the Dowager who led an anti suffrage group in Devon and her DIL who was an ardent suffragist. Amazing, and salutary, to read some of the reasons put forward for opposing it.
Rosie, hope all goes smoothly with your travel tomorrow, you do seem to have a lot of nice things planned. We havent been to Coughton Court so looking forward hearing about it. Your OH is certainly busy right up to the last minure, hope he will be able to relax a bit while hes over here. Is he playing in the golf tournament? We saw Macbeth in Stratford which we generally enjoyed. But they used children for the witches- dressed in pink onesies, clutching dolls. An interesting idea, but it didnt entirely come off. Our week has felt very confused since, though, because we usually go on a Saturday.
Lovewine, I do envy you your swinging chair, been wondering where we might put one. Went to a session at Penny Brohn a couple of weeks ago -it was about fatigue- and the speaker was extolling the benefits of rocking chairs and swinging garden chairs. So not only can you enjoy using it, it is actually doing you good. Glad you have had an easier week, hope next week is not too busy. Its good that your dad is still abke to drive and they can enjoy the new car. My dad found it really hard when he had to give his up and very much missed the independence it had given him.
I have a fairly easy week ahead workwise - although the dreaded mammogram on Thursday. Thankfully no train journeys. I thought Fridays journey to Cardiff was going to be easier than it has been, direct train from local station then a quick 2 stop hop. Not to be. Although the Severn Tunnel is open again, some of the trains cant use it- a fact you would think they could have established before they had to decant a trainload of passengers at Bristol and leave them waiting half an hour while they organised a suitable train to come from elsewhere. So late into Cardiff Central, had to wait for a taxi, plus engaging in a little contretemps with a bloke who didnt seem to grasp the concept of queuing!
Hope you have all had good weekends.
Good morning ladies , I also wanted Croatia to win , life returns to normal after all the football excitement now ?, Wimbledon got rather lost this year !
Rosie I hope you have a trouble free trip back today , seems very long winded with the trains , I know it’s been on the news lately about the appalling service and cancellations .
Joan , I am also due for a mammogram in the next couple of months and really dread it , it’s like a dark cloud hanging above ?,
I am afraid I did spend the whole weekend lolling around on my swinging chair , found it too hot to be bothered to do much else … interesting what you said about it being relaxing with the rocking , I definitely do , I have never been able to sit and read during the day , except on holiday ! I have been able to do this and not feel the urge to jump up and start a new project etc etc ?! Would really recommend if you can fit one in your garden .
Cassie , have a lovely holiday in Italy , bet you are really ready for a break now .
Wildpurl , hope you enjoyed a longer weekend with your Thursday off .
Have a good day ladies .
Good Morning Ladies,
It looks like being a lovely fresher day today. Welcome back to England Rosie it sounds like you have some lovely plans over the next few days. I am meeting up with ED today for lunch before we set off to Italy, I did most of my packing yesterday so just the last few toiletry bits to put in now. I did take a full two weeks off in the end but have had to lie about the length of time out of the country otherwise they would be on the phone and asking me to go in, I thought it would break the holiday up too much to go in for one or two days when I have been off since Friday it made no sense. YB & ED are on flat & cat duty so Felix should be OK, the plants will need watering too we have some chilli plants and a rather large poinsettia lol, I know most of you ladies have gardens but it would be a shame to let them dry out while we are away.
GS has been to try on some sample sizes for his new school uniform, bless him we have ordered it for him, it hard to believe he is starting secondary school. Shame about the football, I think England did well and the whole country seemed to come together, for a short while anyway. I will keep in touch when I am back, not long until our meet up now xx
Our post crossed Rosie
Good morning ladies , Rosie it must be nice to enjoy the cooler weather in Worcester , hope you have a relaxing few days doing your own thing ! ?,.
It has cooled off a little here which is better for working , still no rain though , the cracks in the fields are about 5 ins wide in places now !
Cassie , hope you had a nice lunch with ED and arrived without any delays in Italy , enjoy yourself .?
Joan , hope your week is going ok , did you find any summer clothes online? There are some very good sales on !
Wildpurl , hope all is well with you.
We are walking this evening and then the pub garden , it’s more pleasant for walking so should be ok!
Have a good day everyone!
Good morning ladies , Rosie I hope you enjoyed your trip yesterday , a bargain with the train tickets too!
I just visited Pets at Home store for supplies , it was a very hot day so didn’t stay in the town too long , I did pick up some lovely half price lavender plants from Homebase though , I have quite a few and the bees and butterflies love them !
We may drive into Northamptonshire later to Princess Diana’s family estate - there are acres of woodland you can walk and it will be nice and cool!
Have a good day everyone ?
