Anyone due to start chemo in April? - Awesom April Angels

Judy are you on any gastro-resistant tablets. After my first chemo I didn’t go for nearly four days then I got stomach cramps. Dr came out and gave me 30mg strengh lansoprazole and Movicol. Took one tablet and 4 Movicol in one day. It certainly worked and i felt so much better and included no more feeling bloated. Am now on just one 15mg Lansoprazole tab a day for just the week following Fec when I take antisickness. (The leaflet on my anti sickness tabs say they can cause constipation). I don’t think for me the Movicol on it’s own would have worked. Although I do have the odd half pint movicol if I feel the need. Te He.x
Hope you feel better soon. Sandy.x

Hi all
Kim I can’t really taste the go cake, tbh but it seems ok. I put a lot of chopped prunes in it. It has helped a bit just as a way to get bran down. Maybe 4 movicols is the way to go Sandy! Constipation seems to be se of the day!

Fec-t cycle 2 Day 8
feeling much better today, more like my normal self, which talc cording to my diary from the last cycle, 8 days seems to be the day for me when the se are fine. I’ve still got a sore tongue but my bowels are back to normal now, thanks to the movicol.
Sandy I think if I had taken 4 movicol in one day, would have exploded. I think the most I’ve taken is 2 in a day, but I don’t honk they are brilliant. I will make a note for when I see the oncologist on Monday regarding the lansoprazole MelA
sorry to hear the Go cake didn’t work Mel. I had an egg custard today and it tasted lovely, isn’t it weird how some things have just lost there taste and other quite blamed things havnt!
Have a good weekend in Oban Amber.
Have a good weekend ladies, hope the se are minimal

Congratulations Moira. What lovely news.

Congratulations Moira, on the birth of the new grandson.
my girls are all off to the race for life, unfortunately Iam not joining them as full of a cold and sore throat. I have hopefully uploaded a picture of them x

Congratulations Moira on the birth of your grandson, I’m sure you had a worrying time yesterday and i hope your daughter is feeling ok today. Take it easy this evening and relax with a nice drink
Philomena - sorry that you are under the weather and couldn’t join your girls at the race for life. Great pic though
I have had a great day…got some much stronger painkillers for my arthritic hip and they are working a treat I have managed to do a full grocery shop and a trip to M&S with NO pain…can’t remember the last time I managed that  long may it continue.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend

Just popped in from the Moonbeams to say Congratulations to Moira. So lovely to have good news xx

Cogratulations to you and your family moira, what lovely news!
Love mel x

Congratulation Moira, best wishes to you and your family.
Philomena that’s a great photo of your girls, they’ve really entered into the spirit of things, sorry you weren’t well enough to join them.
Kim, glad you’ve got new pain meds and your pain is Under control.
spent the day in the swimming baths today, we took my son and his friend swimming, we just watched. I was dying to take my hat off as I was so warm but I’m not brave enough yet to show the bald head to the world. I don’t mind wandering around the house and in the garden or when my daughters friends are around, but in public is another matter.
Side effects minimal today, just the sore tongue and aching veins in my arms but other than that everything’s hunky dory.

Congratulations Moira.
AC cycle 3 day 4
Luckily my SE’s are she same as the previous 2 cycles so I managed to travel back to Co Durham today to be with OH. The funeral of his mum is on Wednesday so I’ve got a few days to help sort a few things out as well as rest.
hope you are all okay, I’ve been reading posts but not posting as had my sister staying and she tired me out as much as chemo almost!

Just a quick update! Something very very wierd happened with my hair, it simply turned to matted dread locks and when touched fell out so I decided no more cold cap. Had my second chemo on Friday morning all much quicker and was home by lunch time. On Friday night we recreated the scene from Les Mis where Anne Hathaway has the cute pixie cut with my sister singing and my lovely step son wielding the clippers. Luckily I decided not to take the next stage of being a prostitute as Anne Hathaway I am not!! I feel so relieved its all done so quickly, last Saturday was fine and it all happened in a few days. Have a wig fitting appt on Tuesday but not sure if I will actually buy one, will wait and see when I get there. I actually feel the whole hair thing was worse for my sister and step son but we had a bottle of champagne to help us along. I am really proud of my step son, he is 21 and had taken his father leaving me very badly as I have been his step mother for 16 years. He has been very brave about all this especially as his grandmother died a few months ago from a very nasty pancreatic cancer. He gives me lots of hugs and kisses and really makes me feel loved.
Chemo reaction so far not bad at all, I am forrtunate enough to have the neulaster injection and that made me feel terrible last time but I have had some strong painkillers and so far doing OK. I am going to be kind to myself this week and not attempt to work and hopefully will then be able to do a couple of weeks before the next time. I have also realised I feel better with help in the house so my sister is here until Wednesday and my mum will be here for the next cycle.
I have a horrible feeling that I am on a bit of a steroid high at the moment hence the positive mood but I have decided just to enjoy it whilst I can.
Maybe all those cyber hugs worked as well, thank you again for all the kind words and thoughts.

Evening ladies, I am writing this from my hospital bed as admitted yesterday with Neutropenic sepsis. Felt rough all day but my tympanic thermometer said my temp was ok, until my eldest daughter gave me a hug and realised I had a temp! Used another thermometer and temp was 39.1…needless to say have been in hospital since and won’t be home till Tuesday. All staff here fantastic all test done and started an antibiotics and antiviral s within an hour. Feel much better today, but a good lesson learnt, take note of what your body tells you, not the thermometer. Have a good week all xx

Sorry to hear that Philomena, and I hope you recover soon. I just wanted to add my own experience. I use a Braun ear thermometer and the day I was admitted with neutropenia sepsis on cycle 1 my therm. said I was 38 plus, which is why I went in. HOWEVER - I felt well. As bright as a button in fact. No symptoms whatsoever. It was only because I take my temp regularly that I caught it. It seems there is no pattern or consistency to any of this!!!

Hi all
well done kipper for going for the pixie. when I got my wig my teenagers and OH all tried it on and had photos taken and we had a naming ceremony. mad I know, but it seemed to help them cope.
Philomena, sorry to hear you are incarcerated! wishing you a speedy release!
I have worked myself into a panic about my arm so advice please angels.Over the last week my surgery side arm has started to ache, and feel well strange- sort of hot and uncomfortable. To begin with I thought it was just the feeling finally returning after op- but then i started to read and am panicing about lymphodoema. i only had 2 nodes removed so had sort of discounted this. When I’ve had my blood pressure taken at the hospital they have continued to take it from surgery side, saying 1st it was long enough after op, and then because I’d only had 2 removed it was ok- i have a PICC line in the other side. I know they could have done it that side but it was uncomfortable so they didn’t. Now I’m really worried some kind of irreversible damage has been done, and i feel very stupid and responsible. i can’t see any swelling but my bra is digging in uncomfortably and it just feels wrong. don’t know who i’m supposeed to tell or what to do. don’t know if i should step up the exercises or stop the exercises. I’m probably obsessing about it completely but just want to stick duvet over head and cry. any ideas?
Mel x

Mel that could be one for your BC nurse. Are you able to contact her easily enough? I hope you feel better tomorrow.
Philomena I hope you have a speedy recovery.
Kipper I’m so glad you have people around who are supporting you. Make sure you continue to ask for their help if you need it.
Does anyone know whether you can take ibuprofen for vein pain? My arms are really painful at the moment. Strangely it’s both arms now, not just the one I have the cannula in. Paracetomol has taken the edge off it, but I’ve always found ibuprofen to work better for me. I’m on day 11 now. Is anyone else still experiencing this?

Fec-t cycle 2 Day 10

MelA I have the same pain in my veins, I had it last cycle but its a lot more painfull this cycle. I mentioned it to my sister in law as she’s a nurse and she thought it could be the veins collapsing due to the chemo, she said if they alternate the arm each time they do the chemo, which I know they can for me, as I’ve not had surgery yet, then that will help. Im sorry I don’t kow about the ibuprofen, I know paracetamols are fine.

mel , i hope you can sort your pain out, I would ring your breast care nurse. I have the comfiest bra, which I bought for after surgery, when they told me I would be having surgery first. Anyway, I bought it from peacocks, it’s like an excercise bra but it is so soft and stretchy. It goes on over my head like a vest. But it is the comfiest bra I have ever owned. I tried it on and that was it, I bought a few and just can’t resist wearing them as they are so comfy.

philomena , you poor thing, wishing you a speedy recovery and hope you are home soon, take care x
Kipper your Anne Hathaway comments made me laugh, good for you taking control and going pixie.
Im at the hospital tomorrow, to see the oncologist, I don’t know what for, I just hope it doesn’t take forever. I have a really sore mouth and gums. I have a few false teeth on a plate but at the moment they are agony, I left them out this morning while we walked the dog, but I put them in while we did the supermarket shopping and I couldn’t wait to get home to take the plate out. So the thought of a few hours sat in the hospital with them in tomorrow is something im not looking forward to.
goodnight ladies, hope the se are minimal

MelA I just found this regarding ibuprofen, and it’s not recommended, but I would check with your chemo unit.

Evening ladies, thanks for all your kind wishes.
Maisiecake, just phone your cancer nurse who should get you an appt. with the surgeon fairly quickly. I had the same thing, but with some slight swelling to my hand. They are just going to keep an eye on it, I only had one node removed! Since I have been in hospital they have done everything on my op side as the cannula is on the other, so I know how you feel:(
Mel A it’s fine to take ibuprofen, so long as not taking aspirin aswell. I have also been plagued with arm pain since second chemo, but only in the one arm.
well time to go to sleep and pray for release tomorrow, and all your continued recoveries xx

EC 2 day 11
Good Evening Angels,
Thank you for all the kind thoughts re my latest grandson. It’s so lovely to have something new to think about other than blasted BC. Have visited twice now and always seem to be put on nappy changing duty. This was my daughter’s third baby but first c-section. Hoefully she’ll be allowed home tomorrow. I think they’ve probably kept her in longer because of the other little ones at home who’ll make demands on her. I want to go up there tomorrow to help out but tonight I have the most horrendous cold sore erupting as I type.
It’s got to be a bit worrying that everyone’s s/es seem to have upped the anti.
Oh dear, Philomena, Hope they get you sorted out quickly. It’s so annoying. Any other time we’d just suffer through a sore throat and a cold. Now it’s a hospital job! We’ll all have to be extra careful.
Kim, I certainly don’t envy you 18 ulcers. Get on to the chemo unit asap. There must be something they can give you.
Mel A, I too have this awful vein pain. It’s the Epirubicin that’s the main culprit and I’ve another 4 of them! Perhaps the picc line has something going for it.
Maisiecakes, I don’t like the sound of your arm pain. Again, I’d contact your breast care nurse asap.
Like you Judy, I love those stretchy bras you pull over your head. They even work on my 38Ds (sorry one 38D and one 38 C). My mouth hasn’t been too bad yet. I use corsodyl full strength every night before bed. Seems to be working but then again I dont get the F, just the EC and I think it may have been Lola who said it’s the F that messes with your mouth.
Kate, hope Wednesday isn’t too hard on you and your husband and well done for yet again dodging all the s/es.
Kipper, sounds like your starting to get yourself into a better frame of mind. If you’re offered a wig then take it - I’m used to mine now. I can walk round the supermarket and go to the pub without believing I’ve got a big fluorescent arrow above my head saying syrup! If you start to feel low the day after you stop the steroids, then tell the chemo unit and they can taper off the dose.
Well bedtime for me. Let’s hope Monday brings pain relief all round!
