Anyone due to start chemo in April? - Awesom April Angels

I see my oncologist an hour or so before each cycle for a general discussion, and I am weighed. He then calculates the doseage and sends off the prescription so it is ready for me when I arrive in the chemo unit. As it happens, my weight has stayed steady, but for anyone who has lost a lot I would have thought this was essential?

Happy sunshine everyone, enjoy it if you can xxx

fec T cycle 3, day 2

Evening angels, bit of a nightmare yest at chemos ward. Neuts from bloods on weds were low but I didn’t get a call soo ended up in the unit all day yhesterdayn getting bloods re done and waiting about, eventually got chemo ok but a very long day. Gave them what for, for not contacting me on Thursday!!

Anyway, feeling fine today s/e’s normall kick in on Monday with usual mouth probs and fatigue but as with cycle 2 I’m hoping they clear after first week.

Great day in the garden, hope you all managed to enjoy this sunshine 8) - glasgow forecast is torrential rain on Monday so need to enjoy it when we can!
Lori - hope your virus clears up soon, I had similar on cycle 1, it can drag on due to low immunity…can’t believe you are on cycle 4 next week, we’ll all be watching with Interest to see how you get on with Tax - good luck xx
Kate / Mosiecat - enjoy your weekends x
Hope everyone else is well

Fec-T cycle 3 day 14
Where have all the Angels gone!
Philomena, good luck for today hope all goes well
Pauline, nightmare of a day for you on Fri hope s/e are minimal
I’ve been feeling a bit more sicky again, seems to be dragging on this time whereas previously I would just take a pill and it would be gone apart from that ok.
Got appointment with my Onc tomorrow to see if I can get my first Tax next week because he initially said he would give me a 4 week break. Personally I’d rather just get it over and done with so fingers crossed.
Wishing everyone minimal s/e and good luck to anyone on the chemo train this week
Judy hope you’re ok haven’t posted for a wwhile
take care xxx

FEC 3 day 2
Hope you all enjoyed the good weather and bank holiday, with minimal S/Es.
PAULINE how annoying that the most basic part of chemo fell flat.
Well I was celebrating being 1/2 way through treatment but have been put on new anti sickness tabs, Levomepromazine, which states not to drive as can make you sleepy… Well that’s an understatement, I slept for 2 1/2 hours after talking the first and then went to bed at 8 pm and slept till 8 this morning! They changed me to this from domperidone as after the first 3 days it wasn’t working and felt much worse from day 4-9 than during the first 3. They have also given me injection from day 5 to stop my neutropenia so here’s hoping for a better cycle.
Good luck Angels wherever you are in your cycle. I shall read your posts over the next few days, in between snoozing xx

Happy Birthday Barb, hope you have a nice day
Well done Philomena another angel on the half way mark
Hope minimal s/e for everyone today, off to my Onc appt shortly. X

FEC 3 Day 7
Morning Angels. Hope you have all had a sunny and relaxing weekend. Amber -I too feel we have lost a few posts. I know somedays I havn’t had the energy or consentration to post but know we’ll all be back and celebrating each other on the flip side soon.
Can’t believe how fragile I feel this time. I’m ok in the morning but start to go downhill during the day. SE’s start with slight head ache, followed by dizzyness and both get worse as the day goes on. By 7pm im generally slumped on OH shoulder on the sofar dribbling from the mouth. Most I can deal with, but the constant headache is waring me down. Anyone else taking paracetomol? I take them when desparate but worry about whether I should or not.
OH is great at giving the injections. Every day at twelve, and it’s so much better as we don’t have to wait around for the nurse to turn up.
Linda - At last weight check I was putting on weight. I know that i’m losing it now. I think I’m gioing to struggle with the next fec so hopefully they will lower the dose. If not I think I’m going to have to ask.
Pauline - What a day you must have had. Still another box ticked. Hope your SE’s are minimal.
Lori and Mel - Hope your feeling better and get that next cycle ticked off.
Moira - Hope you had a lovely time in London.
Barb, Philomena, Kim, Diggy, Angie, and all lovely angels. Take it easy. Lv n Hugs. Sandy x

Fec cycle 3, day 5

Hi ladies, had my first bout of feeling sickly yesterday since start of chemo (I know I have been very lucky in that respect so far!) it seems to have passed now but guess just goes to show this journey is def one day at a time. Got the usual horrid mouth at the moment as well so again, eating everything in sight. I am also starting to look and feel very bloated and red about the face, anyone else?? Made the mistake of going on the scales - bad move, made me a bit down but have picked back up. I keep telling my self It could go the other way with Tax so not to worry too much about it. If not, I generally follow a low carb diet (although you wouldn’t think so looking at what I have been eating recently lol)l and can lose weight fairly easily so can sort things out after chemo - first real mind f*** that I’ve had really through this journey so also felt a wee bit upset with myself for feeling low as usually strong, in control and positive…anyway sorry for the woe is me, don’t really tend to share these down moments with my family so hope you dont mind Angels

Sandy - I haven’t suffered from headaches at all, it was a worry for me as I suffer from migrains but nothing so far. Hope you feel better, not sure about the tabs prob best to check with hospital

Philomena - hope the new tabs settle down a bit and the sleep will be doing you good so will hopefully make you feel a bit
Barb - really glad you are feeeling better, as you say, what a year!
Shona - hope you get on ok with Onc and gt tax date you are looking for. Hope you feel a bit better and the fact that youn are not great doesn’t delay your tax!
Lori - think you are tomorrow for Tax? Good luck
Hope everyone else is well, sending big hugs
Pauline xx

Hi All,
Another sunny day…makes a huge difference, helps lift the spirits!
Hope everyone had a lovely bank holiday wedkend.
Sandy, I was told ok to take paracetamol so you should be fine with that.
Yes Pauline, back tomorrow for cycle 4…yikes!!! Dont fret about woeing to us that is what we are here for, its not a nice feeling when it gets your mood down and usually comes from nowhere…sure a rant to us and a shoulder to bubble on at home will see you ok. Hang on in there it will pass :o)

Take care all L x

Hello Angels,
Sorry I haven’t posted in a few days but I’ve been busy enjoying myself as well as tiring myself out! Saturday morning my OH drove me to Southampton and left me there to go cruising with my 2 sisters, my mum and my eldest niece. What a weekend we had! We had a glass of champagne as the ship sailed, then went off to get ready for dinner, after dinner we saw a show and eventually got to bed about 11pm. Sunday we docked in Zeebrugge and off we went to Bruges for the day, we walked miles and had a lovely cup of hot chocolate DIY style - you are given hot milk and a big chunk of chocolate to melt into the milk! I think we all thought we’d gone to heaven! Sunday evening was formal night on the ship so we all dressed in our finest clothes had some formal photos taken and went off to dinner, another show and then eventually to bed at 11pm again. Yesterday my OH came and picked me up in Southampton about 11am - I was shattered but happy! Last night I was asleep by 9pm but today I feel okay and have been for my bloods - fingers crossed they are okay for the last of AC tomorrow, I’ll then be half way through my 8 chemo cycles!
I hope you are all starting to get over the SE’s you’ve been having, it sounds like the further we get down this path the harder the SE’s are to get over. I was told Paracetamol were okay too. Luckily I think we can all see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel so that should help as well as the sunshine that seems to be in Scotland this week but not down here in the Southeast of England! I’ve driven through many many large puddles today and its still raining!
Keep smiling and hope you’ll all get an easier time with the next cycle.
Kate

Fec-t cycle 2 Day 19
hello ladies, I’ve been reading all your posts, and I started a new painting which has kept me quite busy. The Side effects do seems to be lasting longer this cycle. I’ve had really sore eyes and a permanent dripping nose, think its as all the nose hair has gone from my nose. I’ve decided today to try antihistamines in case it’s an allergy to something.
kate , sounds like you’ve had a lovely time, I’m pleased for you, you deserve a nice bit of me time After what you have gone through. How’s your OH coping?
Best of luck with cycl 4 tomorrow, Kate and Lori , lori are you starting the Tax tomorrow? We will all be waiting to see how you get n with it and keeping our fingers tossed for minimal s/e
Pauline sorry to hear you’ve been feeling sickly this time, hope you get over it soon. I’ve had a the red face, I think it was early on in cycle 1 but it just went. I know if I go out in the sunit doesn’t take long at all before I go red, but I havnt been outin the sun for years with the psoriasis, but thankfully the chemo has sorted that this year so I’m making the most of the sunshine.
Sandy your OH is a lot braver than my hubby, mind you, I don’t think I would trust my hubby to give me and injection. I know for a fact I’ve put on nearly a stone, I hope it goes a bit once I start on the tax but if not, it’s so.mething to work on when I’m sorted. My hubby says I’m like a pacman, I just keep eating food.
philomema make the most of the sleeping, at leat if your asleep urging the first week of the cycle the s/e are not bothering you. Take care x
Amber , I’m still chuckling over my last oncology visit last week, my oncologist must have X-ray vision cos they keep coming out with the kiddies plastic ruler to measure the lump… There’s nothing to see but they do insist on measuring it mid cycle.
Barb , birthday, hope you have a lovely day.
Moira , loving your new wig, it looks very nice.
MelA hope your feeling better and your arms are feeling less sore. I mentioned mve sore veins to the oncologist and she confirmed that the veins have collapsed and suggested next cycle they use my other arm or I go for a line fitting, I think I’m going to just use my other arm as I don’t fancy having a line fitted.
have a lovely day ladies, hope you are all well, take care.

Judy xx

Hi Angels
Tis the eve before fec 3 so ive eaten well today before my taste buds desert me again! Away from work for the week ahead, hoping its going to be e bit same old same old, it wasnt that bad this time.
Barb happy birthday
Sandy - i take paracetomol when i need it, doctor knows and its ok for me. You sound as though you’re having a rough time, will you normally come out of it by now (day7) or is it dragging on longer?
Philomena - they changed my anti sick, well added on really, a tiny patch that sticks just under my ear and it knocked me out! i could hardly keep my eyes open. i think i’ll be getting it again so i expect to be asleep for the next 5 days.
Pauline - what a shame you got sicky so far on, hope it doesnt stay with you.
Amber - hope your onc was kind to you.
Mel A - i did too much at work and i ballooned a little too, its not good to lift i think!
Judy - its good to see you’re painting. I started some sewing, a rag doll with pj’s for my sons baby thats due in july. nice to be doing normal things isnt it.
Kate - sounds like you enjoyed your mini adventure. Yes, i have the sun in scotland, keeping it for as long as i can
hi to lor i, moira kim , all the angels,
i’m guessing i’ll be about more with this week off, if i can stay awake that is !!
angie xx

ECMF cycle 2 day 19
Hi Angels
just been reading through all the posts since I last looked. next cycles seem to be coming round quick!
Mel A- my arm pain has definitely improved since the BC told me to do the exercises 3 times a day, and I have. I don’t have much power in my op side for things like opening jars. probably best to avoid lifting, but it’s frustrating isn’t it?
Kim glad you had a good break- you deserve it!
Pauline sorry you’re feeling sick, hope it passes soon.
love to all the tired, sleepy people, sweet dreams!
I’ve been away for the weekend to Buxton in the peak district. Had great weather and a good break, lots of fresh air… I’m trying to make the most of the very few days at the end of cycle when I feel a bit better. Having said that I thought I felt well enough to have a little drink so had 2 glasses of wine and was then copiously sick. Think drink is going to be a no no for me right the way through. It all starts again tomorrow with blood test and onc appt, then hopefully chemo on Friday. This time I have had diorrhea (can’t spell it) as soon as the constipation from the anti sickness drugs stopped, right up to now. Something else to ask onc about!
Love to all you angels, Mel xxx

Good luck tomorrow Angie, hope it goes well. It’s hard to believe we’re nearly half way there. It is nice to be doing something normal, the painting im working on is a graffiti style painting on a large canvas, but it’s the first creative thing I’ve done since april.

Mel I’ve struggled with the constipation, then the diarrohea too, but the doctor said its just the drugs, and not to take anything to stop the diarrohea in case it’s a bug. If its a bug and and you take tablets to stop it, your just trapping the bug inside so it’s better to just let it run its course. I seem to have 3 days constipated then 2 days diarrohea. I’ve found eating more veg and fruit and ooaks helps with the constipation. Just found a recipe which I’m gonna try with cycle three.

POWER PUDDING

2 cups pitted prunes

1 cup applesauce

1 cup Bran Cereal

enough prune juice to make pudding consistency

Blend it in a blender and eat 1 cup in the morning and 1 in the evening for a couple of days, or until it works. It’s food so you can’t over dose, but I don’t recommend you go out the first day or so you start eating it.

Hi everyone
Pauline -sorry you are feeling sickly, I find nibbling crystallised ginger helps along with eating little and often which seems to ward off the sickness.
Judy - glad you have started painting again. I started making some sugar flowers at the weekend, not made ny since I was diagnosed.
Kate - glad you had a great weekend, you deserve it
Angie, Lori & Kate - good luck with your chemo tomorrow
Moira hope you had a good weekend in London and good luck for your next cycle in Thursday
Happy birthday Barbara
I’m making the most of this extra week before my chemo and getting in some socialising although I’m taking it easy before the wedding on Friday.
Hope everyone has a good nights sleep with minimal SE’s
Kim x

thanks for that judy. I started with diarrohea as soon as i stopped the anti sickness meds - thought i’d over done the go cake, but it’s just carried on- bit incapacitating- worried about being far from a loo!

Happy Birthday Barbara!
I hope despite everything you have managed to still enjoy your birthday. It apears we have more in common than this pesky illness as it’s my Birthday today too. I found out a while ago that I was born on same day and year (1968) as Kylie Minogue, who has also travelled this BC journey…i have to be realistic that is where the similarities end as with my current diet and lack of exercise I’ll never have a bottom like hers!!!
Best wishes Lori x

lori, happy birthday!
Thats something we both have in common… My bottom looks nothing like kylie s either
