Anyone due to start chemo in April? - Awesom April Angels

Oooooooooooooooplease be careful!!! If you keep quiet about the BC but get some other problem - a broken leg or similar, not related to BC they may (and probably will) refuse to pay up because you have broken their T&C. I would tell them, and ask for BC to be excluded.

Evening girls,
most of you should be asleep by now, except me 8 steroids today been cleaning all evening, didn’t realise the time, I must have been having so much fun!
Welcome Carol, we’re a great bunch hope you’re s/e are not too bad
Angie - well done to your daughter, an amazing achievement . I have a little pouch put nothing to worry about my Onc checked it. I just bought another bra online, they’re so comfy but still look pretty.
Lori- thanks for he tips, will keep you posted
Lynn - Iam into online shopping as well, even grocery, get my wine and ice lollies delivered to the door, beats doing a weekly shop in store. Best wishes to your Mum
Linda - glad you head a good time away, recharge the batteries, good luck for tomorrow
Mel - the break in Cornwall will do you good, go for it! We’ve got Robbie Williams in two weeks and my oh says if Iam not too good he will get a wheel chair for me, how funny would that be!
Pauline - Guilty, I pinched the sun today, been glorious again today. Tried doing a few quotes for travel insurance online, think its best to speak to someone over the phone to make sure we are covered in full as some questions re existing conditions are vague. We have insurance with RBS through our bank account but they wouldn’t cover me for Amsterdam as I was 6 weeks post op. Will try again for later in the year.
Judy - glad you’re back
Lots of holiday talk, it’s good for us to have something to look forward to after this part of our journey. I only wear my wig to go out otherwise scarfs or au natural in the company of family and friends. It’s too hot now to wear it for any length of time. I bought some brightly covered buffs on the net which are comfy to wear and have sun protection.
Good Luck to everyone on the chemo train this week, i have a booking for 9am tomorrow.
Hope s/e are minimal for everyone else, take care angels xxx

Hay Amber - good luck today, I start the 8 steroids on Thursday in prep for 'T’on Friday - got some sleeping tabs from the doc just in case! Linda - yes good point about the exclusion will get some quotes with / without abd see how it goes
Have a good day everyone - rain on it’s way here today :frowning:
Pauline xx

Good luck today Amber , hope it goes ok, at least with the tax it’s just one needle and its drip fed in. Have you found that your eating more with the steroids?
we have the sun in Bridlington at the moment, I feel really lucky in that we seem to be having a good summer this year and I can get out in it.
have a good day ladies
judy xx

Morning ladies, enjoy the sun while ot lasts rain on its way here the rest of the week by the look of it.
I am much better today, what a difference a day makes. I got my appointmemt in yesterday for Oncologist to discuss Radiotherapy. Just want dates so I can try organise a break away and then I will have to look at insurance.
I work in a bank. Do no go away on your free Insurance without disclosing your Preexisting condition. YOU WILL NOT BE COVERED FOR ANY CONDITION.
Brevia Bras I got 4 on line 2 white 1 buff and 1 black for £30 very comfy, passion killers though.
Hope all goes well today Amber

I will need to ask doc about sleeping tablets for when my nex tax is due 28th, thanks for advice,
Hope you all have a good day
Lynn x

Good luck today Amber and you on Friday Pauline.
It seems so funny to hear you call these comfy bras ‘passion killers’. Last year I had a brace on my teeth to straighten them and this year I have no hair and 1 boob. Fortunately at this stage I don’t think my hubby will be put off by a comfy bra - lol
If anyone is going abroad after rads I believe you can get a medical card to say you have had them as the radiation can be picked up by airport staff. I think you’re supposed to declare your prosthetic too as it will be picked up on xray. I don’t want to alarm anyone but forewarned is forearmed.
I still don’t know what is happening with rads. My consultant said chemo, followed by rads then a registrar oncologist said maybe not rads -they might want to discuss a trial with me, but we’ll see after chemo. Like hell! I want something that works! I’ll talk to my oncologist next week as I need to know for work. I did hear that rads usually start 3-4 weeks after chemo though so thought they will hopefully arrange them for wk4 when I get back.

Good afternoon Angels, and welcome to our two new ones
Love all the talk of post treatment holidays, I’m off to Leichtenstien as a treat to see my one of my sisters, then off to Ireland to see another and then to Australia to see my brother. Just waiting now to find out rads dates. I have already spoken to my insurance company and they have said the same, no cover for BC though I’m not sure what emergency BC related I wouldbehave on holiday.
Recieved today a very long questionnaire today from Addenbrooks genetics as the first part of testing for BRCA 1/2. I have had to rightdown the cancer history of my family, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts and both sets of grandparents! As Iam one of eight, and each of my parents were one of eight that was a lot of writing! It will now go back and be triaged as to whether there is a familial link, then the blood tests. Has anyone else been put up for testing.
I am with you Angels on the scarfs, I have onlyworn my wig once as I find them much more comfortable than the itchy wig.My daughters have been in hysterics this week as I have just made some lovely black lace scarfs from a rather beautiful table cloth! Whilst they agreethey look really good, they just think I am becoming very eccentric, must be the chemo brain.
Good luck to all youstarting on your next rounds of chemo this week, wishing you all a s/e free time. I am off on Thursday to start Physio on my op arm as it is a bit swollen and tingly still.
Philomena x

Philomena, I’m with you on the eccentric, I don’t know if it is the chemo or what but my fashion sense has changed since the chemo , some days I go out looking very eccentric,I think it’s because I’m wearing scarfs, the clothes can be more flamboyant with scarfs than with hair, but your lacy scarfs sound beautiful.

Hi,
Fec-T Tax 1 day 1
Well that’s the first tax done, quicker than Fec as only 1 bag. another 8 steroids today so look out tonight, what can I clean next! Fell asleep about 1.20am and wakened at 5.25 bright as a button, been out for lunch and going out for dinner tonight. Cramming in as much as I can before the bone pain hits and the low immunity as it start day 4 on tax.
Thanks for the good wishes and Judy Iam eating loads, definately in training for the Shot Putt team, the red round face from the steroids will be icing on the cake, not.
Found a great product the other day called Heathers Hair. Basically it’s a small charity that makes light weight hairpieces which can be worn under hats or scarfs. The hair weaves are sewn on to a soft sweatband. They suggest a donation of £10, which is only expecteon if you’re happy with the goods and works very much on a word of mouth basis. I ordered mine on Friday night and it came today, really please, it’s so light in weight. The website is www.heathershair.co.uk or email heathers-hair@hotmail.co.uk and have a look.
hope you all have a minimal s/e day, and good luck to those on chemo train tomorrow.
Yours Mrs Doubtfire (oh new name for me after all the cleaning I did last night) x

Amber or mrs doubtfire glad you’ve got the first tax out of the way, hod you have to have an injection tomorrow? I was told they would have to show may OH how to give me an injection into my stomach the day after the tax, which for me is a Saturday, hence my hubby having to give the injection. so is day 4 the day the bone pain starts? Hope you have a better night tonight Amber

Hi Judy,
I have had Neulasta from the start the day after chemo.
Just phoned RBS travel insurance, they won’t cover me for breast cancer in our existing policy. Suggested to use policy but with BC as exclusion, anybody had any luck on the insurance side?

Hi ladies
another sunny day in the north, unfortunately i was at work and only saw it through the window. so i’m sitting here eating chocolate again, partly because i cant chew real food because of the pokey happy dentist almost 2 weeks ago and partly because i cant be bothered to make anything. Im thinking when i start on the steroid fest next week and i get a big red round head, it’ll be ok because it will match the big round body that ive already got!
Ive just bought 2 bras from asda direct £14 for both, a pretty black one and a lacy white one, good reviews and how cheap are they!! Not arrived yet, i’ll let you know.
I’m not going on holiday or going to see a pop concert. I’ll be having 3 weeks in inverness for rads, in a hospital digs room by myself, with no wi fi, so i’m taking up knitting for that trip!! Ive got to get to England to see my new grandaughter when she’s born in august though.
Judy - i know what you mean about dressing different, i went to get fecced dressed like a peace/love hippy. it wasnt intentional but i saw my reflection in the window as i walked in and thought i could have drifted in from the 60’s. i dont know why but i’m wearing some vivid colours and patterns too, maybe its a mental thing? You look very bronzed and healthy i must say, is it all the sunny brid days? What injection is it after tax? ive had injections for 7 days after fec have you, i do them myself, is it the same thing, to help the bloods?
Kim - fancy losing weight, well done, i cant imagine i’m ever going to go back to normal. my diet is dire. I have no willpower.
Amber, how are you feeling, any weirdness or dizzy or stuff like that? did you sleep well when you did get to bed? have you got the cleanest house in scotland??
LNMcG - glad youre feeling better
maisiecake - i know what you mean about eating and not tasting, i dont know why but i eat it anyway then decide i didnt like it and try something else.
Lori - how are you doing on the tax, hope youre well.
Philomena - ive got to mention my dodgy arm but i’m a bit wimpy, onc said i had to have it sorted for the rads so i’d better get it sorted. is yours painful or niggling? mines a niggle, dont know if that qualifies for physio?
hi kate , funkilala , Pauline , all the angels. Looks like we’re all about to change…
Chemo ding ding round 2
angie xx

Angie I would say my style of dress is more hippyish too, it’s got to be a chemo thing! I’ve not had any injections the day after chemo but I think after the tax, the injection the day after is Neulasta for the white blood count, but I’ve read that, that is what causes all the bone pain and fatigue, see link below. I must admit this cycle has been a dream so I’m not looking forward to the tax.

i think I am on a see food and eat it diet, I just can’t stop stuffing food in, even if it doesn’t taste right, I just keep eating. You have done really well kim to lose weight at this time.
Angie, I’m not going on holiday or to any concerts either I’ve been told I will have another scan once the chemo is done, then the mastectomy in York then the radiotherapy. 3 weeks in hospital digs doesn’t sound much fun for you though Angie.

judy
ive had an injection every day for 7 days after fec and its lenograstim, the leaflet said something about platelets so i assume its to boost bloods? i thought everybody had this? i do go on a down day after i stop it, so just thought it must be that, ive never actually asked i just take whatever they give me. i do the injections myself, same time every day.
angie xx

your one brave lady Angie doing our own injections. I’ve just looked your injections up and it’s he same thing for the white blood cells. It’s weird how they give us all different things and yet were on the same chemo.

Evening Angels
ANGIE after my SNB I only had the one lymph node removed, but started with tingling in my fingers almost straight away and my arm felt "odd"not really painful and have had swelling in my hand and fingers.my BCN got me back in to see the consultant who said it wasn’t lymphodaema but needed to be kept an eye on, they recommended the physio.
Something I have noticed over the past week is a changed feeling in my fingertips, and looking at them tonight they look as if they have been soaking in water for hours? Has anyone else noticed anything like this?
i also have the injections for neutropenia. Mine start on day 5 for 5 days, and have bone pain in my back and hips, I inject just before going to bed so I can sleep through the worse bit. It’s really easy giving the injections, I have also taught my youngest daughter to do them, she is less Squeamish than her dad.all those years of giving injections, it’s now payback…!
philomena x

Judy/Angie
I’ve had neulasta after every cycle of AC and not had bone pain/fatigue…after the first one I felt like I’d got a hangover but after that had no problems with it so I don’t think its a definite that you get SE’s from the injection - bit like chemo some people get some SE’s and others don’t.
I’ve been for bloods today and start TAXOL tomorrow and have been told my steroids will increase but sickness is less likely on this cocktail (didn’t have any on AC) so not sure what to expect. I was told by the ONC that ‘pins and needles’ in hands and feet were a SE to ‘expect’ but the nurse today said they believe only a few people get that SE even though the ONC implies everyone gets it…I guess I’ll have to see as I get the cocktail starting at 9am tomorrow and hopefully I go to see Bruce Springsteen on Saturday!
I haven’t felt the need to clean when on steroids yet…and I’m not looking forward to that SE, I don’t like cleaning! :frowning: Is there a drug I can take to keep it at bay??
3 weeks in hospital digs Angie - that doesn’t sound nice. No WIFI sounds horrendous, will you have a phone with data or are you going ‘off grid’ for the 3 weeks? I think I’d struggle with no email/internet for a day never mind 3 weeks!
Hope everyone is okay and SE free. Good luck to everyone getting the next cycle tomorrow

Philomena - yes, ive got it too, stick your fingernail into your skin, it takes ages to come back to normal. its like when youre dehydrating, if you pinch your skin it takes a while to flop back into place. weird. i had 8 nodes removed but ive noticed just lately that i’m rubbing at my underarm more, i dont know if its doing too much at work or just a result of the op?
judy - i used to have to do insulin injections at work in a nursing home, so i only had the nurse here once so i could show her that i can do it myself. i had to have them at 6.30am so i could set off for work at 7, district nurses dont do 7am. no choice really if i wanted to go back to work. i cant say ive noticed any pain from the injections though.

hi kate
i’m taking over the airwaves tonight! ive clocked every free internet cafe around inverness town centre so i can go from one to another during the day, at night i’ll be on the phone no doubt, bugging people with txt and calls and i’m taking up knitting to keep me out of trouble. Going to hang out at maggies too, free tea and nice soft chairs!
onc’s are a bit like that arent they, tell you all the stuff you can get and how bad it can be, i suppose they have to prepare us for the worst. I do believe that you are amazon woman though, i’m sure you’ll get to see the boss on saturday, i wish i was going I never thought to ask, is this tax the one that gives you the runs? sort that out before saturday kate!
angie xx

Angie
I can imagine you sitting in the corner of the cafe for hours on end in your hippie clothing and the staff wondering if you have a home to go to! Perhaps you need to let them know why you are spending so much time in their cafe in advance so they don’t worry! What are you going to knit a new hat for everyday?
Not sure I’m amazon woman I’m normally a wuss! I do seem to have been very lucky through this though…don’t know if the TAX I’m going on to causes the runs, I’d better check that tomorrow so if necessary I can get some immodium ready for saturday!
