Anyone due to start chemo in April? - Awesom April Angels

Good Luck for tomorrow, Angie x

  • Angle you crack me up, chicken head sounds good to me, better than bald eagle. Best of luck tomorrow.
  • Pauline, sorry to hear you are suffering so much, it’s good to know what to expect though, hope you can get stronger pain killers.
  • Amber, glad youoffs/e have settled down, so it’s roll on day 7 for us on TAx.

Angie - I’ve already got a chicken/fluffy head, my OH commented earlier today that I have some fluffy bits and some of the ‘stubble’ is back…but my ONC says it will do that between cycles and then disappear again so not sure how long I’ll be this way.
Good to hear everyone is managing the SE’s okay - sleep certainly does seem to be high on the agenda for most. I didn’t get up til mid-day yesterday and was back asleep by 10pm and got up at 9.15 this morning - I think the Boss wore me out!
Love the paintings and all the cooking you ladies seem to do - I’m not creative at all and cooking is done as and when I need to rather than wanting to do it.
Good luck for the Angels with cycles tomorrow and hope the ‘excess’ steroids kick in soon! I think the ONC’s have fibbed about a few things to help us through - maybe we should write a book telling people the truth as we see it!

Love the idea Kate of the book, could it be the alternate 50 shades of Grey!
im not sure the ONCs misinterpret chemo, but it’s more to do ith never having experienced it. I am a nurse, oncology was never my forte. Renal and primary care( male), so really had no idea the pathI was taking. My eldest daughter is a sister grade research nurse so did all the research for me? She also found this forum, which I personally think has helped me the most.
You are all incredible people who have shared so much for the benefit of the rest of us to gain some insight to what to expect. Sometimes it’s not great stuff, but at least if it happens you are less frightened as someone has already been through it. Many tips have been life savers, I never really took the high temp thing to seriously until I saw the threads on other Angels being hospitalised for days with neutropenic sepsis. When it happened to me, I knew what was going on.
Im rattling on now, day 2 of FEC 3 better get off as chemo brain and sleeping beauty syndrome are kicking in.
Sleep well Angels

Philomena - how about 50 shades of chemo?

I loved the LGFB course today and was delighted with the goody bag. I was nicely relaxed until I got home and realised that I’ve somehow lost my steroids. Aahh! Panic moment! I phoned Christie’s helpline, who fortunately got through to the pharmacy. They said not to worry’ just let them know on Thursday and I will be given it as an infusion before chemo. What a dope I am!
Caz - your paintings are fantastic.
The tomato recipe sounds fab too. I must try that. I’ve put myself on a healthy eating plan too and have been on salads and fruit all week. I’ve actually lost a bit of the weight I’ve put on too. Like many of you though I am so tired at the mo.
I’ve also got chicken hair. I’ve trying to decide whether to leave it and see what happens or shave it again. We’ll see
I hope all you poorly chicks feel better soon. Take care xx

Evening again Angels, like the idea of Fifty shades of Chemo, or how about the do’s and don’ts of chemo, this is part of my list:- certainly before day 8…
Dont make any decision bigger than" should I put the kettle on!
Don’t phone your hairdresser and ask her to cut your fridge!
Don’t paint your toenails bright pink, and your carpet…
Take your temperature with a faulty thermometer, or at least check the batteries!
Try and say anything complicated!
Keep calling your neighbours beautiful new son Dylan, when his name is James!
Do join a wonderful forum like this.
Say how it is…it really does help others! But on my case, must not make it complicated!
Not to worry about everyone’s names as my chemo brain can only take in one name at a time!
Come on Angels, let’s have your lists of do’s and don’ts…
Must sleep now but I think my steroids are fighting off my lovely snoozy meds and the steroids are winning, so could well be more posts as I’m not keen on housework xox

Philomena - dont forget you have to slow down when driving as a corner is coming up! yes i did.
angie xx ( i didnt crash )

Nice one Angie, I can’t drive for 1st 8 days as antiemetics are toostrong, good job two as I would be the same. Great for the list though

Very late short post from Moira - Supergran???
Been to see Robbie this evening. These football stadiums are too big for my liking and I would have preferred it if he’d only played all the old stuff and then I would have known all the words. Waved my snb arm in the air but found it difficult to wave the sore vein arm. Olly Murs was a very good first act and he came back to duet with the Robster. So hope you enjoy it Amber. Still envious of you Kate, getting to see Bruce. The Times gave him 5 stars.
Must go to bed now. I’ve got bloods tomorrow then round 4 on Thursday.
Sleep well
Moira xxx

Love the list Philomena, I would add just one, don’t shop for food the day of chemo or the day after, if I do I only seem to get sweet stuff…chocolate buttons seem to be my favourite this time! my OH had to go and get proper food as I hadn’t considered that!
Moira, glad you enjoyed Robbie, I know what you mean about stadiums, luckily for Bruce we chose great seats. I would love to see him in a smaller venue but he doesn’t do them…perhaps I’ll write to him and ask him to do my garden for all of the Angels?!
Good luck with bloods / cocktails today and hope the SE’s are manageable. I’m off for a day out today…to Ikea! I certainly know how to live the high life don’t I!

Hi Angels I don’t have any chicken hair I’m jealous. The woman Sharon from Maggies who took the scarf tie class ( also a hair dresser) said to shave off the downy hair as the hair that then comes in is a better quality. She also said not being able to die it for 6 months is a myth and as long as you get a test area done you can die it as soon as you are ready to. What’s the worst that can happen it all falls out!
Hope you all have a good day Angels, I might even Hoover today must be feeling energetic
Lynn x

Thanks Lynn - you’ve tempted me to get the razor out again.
Philomena - add ‘don’t lose your steroids’ to that list
Good luck on Thursday Moira xx

Morning Girls,
Fec-T cycle 4 tax day 9
Fifty Shades of Chemo, sounds great I’m sure we all have some stories to tell!
lots of fluffy chickens running around, Lynn good tip from hairdresser, so it’s a shave for me then prob best to wait until last chemo. Glad I will be able to colour my hair as soon as, was dreading that one in case it came in grey.
Tried out my new ‘Chillow’ last night and slept till 7, had previously been weakening up with really cold then really hot head and neck so worked a treat.
Still waiting for the sun to appear, weather man said it was going to be the warmest day, but it’s overcast here at the moment.
Moira, so glad you enjoyed Robbie, this will be the 6th time I’ve seen him, 6 sleeps to go!
hope everyone has a good minimal s/e day xxx

ECMF cycle 3 Day 19
Hi all angel chicks
saw oncologist today, well registrar, bone scan results were fine. Apparently it’s just wear and tear because I’m so OLD. Hugely relieved, actually skipped back to carpark much to OH’s embarrassment!
Question for you all- registrar( woman about 25?) expressed amazement when I said I was still having sporadic periods, despite chemo but mostly because I’m 50. She said most women had finished by now- not my experience- just out of interest, and as we’ve shared so much, what about you 50 ish women?
no chicken fluff for me yet- more like plucked turkey
I’m so in awe of all you cooks out there- I HATE cooking and have abdicated alll responsibilty since starting chemo- everyone has to fend for themselves. Really I was just looking for an excuse! I do the shopping on line though, which is great. the Tesco man brings it all the way to the kitchen and unpacks it.
Debra- sorry CMF is bad- just remember you’re on the home run. Hope you feel better soon- do you feel ok in the 2 weeks off?
Caz love the paintings.
Here’s a don’t for the list- don’t have an Indian takeaway and bottle of wine the night before 1st chemo.
don’t carry trays of anything anywhere- I’ve dropped 2 now!
love to all Mel xxx

Fec 4 day 9
Afternoon Angels. Feel loads better today, so thank you for all your good wishes they worked, again. Don’t know what i’d do without you.
Kate - Wow nearly four hours raving into the night. Anything else you on we should all know about.
Carol - Your oil on canvas of Loch Lomond is lovely. OH and I try to get to Scotland every year if we can and have been there many times.
Mel - I am going to see GP and will ask for Difflam even though I change to Tax and Herceptin next cycle. Although it’s getting better now I rather be prepared. Thank you. Hope all goes well and enjoy Rod Stewart. (Get some of what Kate’s on before you go).
Judy - Thanks for the info link. I’m going to read up after trying to get a little work done this afternoon. Best wishes for tomorrow.
Angie - Your post made me laugh. You have a way with words. And yes i’m with you, chicken hair all round better than none. At least we have the option to gel it, colour it, shockwave it ect. Off to get me some Ambesol too. Good luck for today.
Debra - Like Amber says were all here for you. Sending you positive hugs. x
Amber - It looks like the spaced out feeling is with us during Tax as well then. I’m going to prepare well in advance this time before the next cycle. Like Philomena suggests online shopping with Pasta and Pizza for the kids and I am going to try the sundried tomatoes too. Thanks.
Hope everyone else is ok and enjoying the warm weather. Lv n Hugs. Sandy x.

One more for the list.
When buying clothes try them on first. The chemo mirror lies. x

Afternoon Angels
FEC 4 day 3
Although very very tired the steroids seem to be winning this cycles battle, not to worry las today last day on them.
Mel, had to laugh at your Registrars reaction, when you are that young you think everything stops over 40, I know I did. My periods stopped around age 48, but my 4 sisters were 53/54 before theirs stopped?

Loved the extras to the list, more are welcome.
Debra, hoping your feeling better, and glad to see the rest of the Angels are onwards and upwards. Good luck to all about to commece next cycles xx

Hi Angels
My OH wants to know what I’m on too - think its just my view on life in general, I’ll do what I want to do and probably suffer for it later! Dancing with Bruce all night would have been fine if I’d had the option! 2 days suffering for it would have been fine by me!
Mel - Great news that the hip is only wear and tear, I have arthristis in my fingers already so can’t imagine how bad it is in hips! I’m only 47 but periods were fine before chemo, I then had one every cycle for first 3 cycles and nothing since, now on cycle 5 so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they have gone for good!
Angie - which bra’s have you got from Asda, up to now I’ve been okay in 2 of my old wired ones but today I got very grumpy as the one I put on wasn’t comfortable at all so had to take it off within an hour! Seems my ‘implant’ has moved or changed shape, or maybe its the chocolate button revenge! :frowning:
Amber - I’ll be leaving my chicken fluffy hair until the end of chemo and then if its still there (6 weeks time I hope!) I’ll be either coping with fluffy hair or shaving it to let it come back stronger…I think I’ll be making the decision based on the colour it is and whether its curly or not! If its grey and curly it will be going!
Hope you are all doing okay, I’m a little tired having spent 4 hours walking around Ikea today - I did get some nice new mugs and a pan so it was worth it!

Hi Angels,

Interesting about periods. I was 40 when I went through the menopause. I saw the doctor at the time as I thought I was very young. He told me there is a connection between the age you first start and the age you finish. The later you start the earlier you finish. I was well over 14 when I started. Must be something to do with how many hormones your body produces naturally. Clearly not many in my case, and my tumour is also hormone negative, despite being on HRT for 8 years during my 40’s.
