Anyone due to start chemo in April? - Awesom April Angels

Spent the afternoon helping my friend make an icing tiara for her daughter’s birthday cake, chatting and drinking cappucino - lovely

Glad everything gone ok for you linda, sandy and amber, number 5 ticked, nearly there, hope you manage some sleep tonight.
Moira, micheal buble sounds like it was a good night, glad you had a good time.
Sandy I would have loved to see the lady giving you your prize, so funny, but not! I don’t realty know how to react to people’s faces when they look at meet lately, it’s weird how more people seem to smile and then look away. Mind you I suppose it’s quite odd seeing the round faced bald lady walking towards them. I keep overheating and have no option other than to take my scarf or hat off.
i just wish it was Halloween, I could definitely do uncle fester this year to scare the kids that come to the house.
im on day 13 of cycle 4 and im still exhausted most of the time, I’ve still got the bone aches and pains too, thought I would be over this by now. One thing I havnt lost is taste so I’m still eating like a horse.
Ive been reading a lady’s posts on Facebook called a lump and a bump, this lady is amazing, she has three kids, she’s got breast cancer, has had a mastectomy, found out she is pregnant again and has been going through chemo. She’s just had her baby. I’m just gobsmacked at all she’s been through and how well she’s coped and how happy and positive she has been through it all. It’s worth reading.

Fec-T cycle 5 Tax day 2
Thanks for the good wishes, slept like a log last night and have felt fine today. Had a nice catch up with one of my friends, sitting in the garden enjoying the sunshine.
Moira glad you enjoyed Buble, check travel insurance before you book New York. We have a wedding in Poland in between chemo and rads and I have only found one company which will insure me as Iam classed as still in treatment.
Pauline, good luck for Friday
Wishing you all a good nights sleep with minimal s/e
Well done Andy Murray! Xxx

ECMF cycle 4 day13
Judy what a fantastic idea - uncle fester for halloween! I’ll still be chemo-ing in October, this could be an advantage!
Someone recommended this travel insurance to me as it’s specifically designed for people with breast cancer- haven’t used it myself but def worth a look- don’t know if it’s been mentioned before.

I’m slowly feeling better and doing more day by day, but it’s very slow progress. Still v v tired, and having to rest a lot.
my nose drips like a tap. I can’t always feel it, so am training family to give me subtle signs ! Temperature is still a bit erratic- ok for a bit then suddenly 38+. still taking the antibiotics until tomorrow- will see what happens when I stop. Drove car for the first time in 2 weeks today, to shop, and actually managed to park it fairly straight and without hitting the wall. If only I could say the same for the way I managed the trolley . I went in a head scarf and it was the first time I felt people looked at me strangely- i suppose with no eyebrows now( and no makeup) and also deathly pale I must have looked a bit odd, to be fair.
Debra- glad CMF is going a bit better, you sound much brighter- the end is in sight! So sorry you have to go back to work, make sure they look after you.
My rads start on 26th August , which is in cycle 6 of chemo.
well done those who’ve had another treatment
My nails, which have been growing better than they ever have , have suddenly stared to peel and flake.
love to all, sleep tight, Mel x

Cycle 4 docetaxel 1 day 7
i am so glad I had been on here and you had prepared me for what to expect. Onc and nurse really played down side effects, had I not read your reactions I would have been worse I think. First time I have felt ill since diagnosis 23/01 pain was almost unbearable at times, did not know what to do with myself, could not even eat as mouth throat and glands were so swollen. Upped my paracetemol and ibruphen to co codamol unfortunately made me very constipated . Started feeling a wee bit better yesterday after managed to go (too much info maybe) I think it was getting rid of all the toxins. Made myself get dressed and went out and got my nails done. I was sweating like a pg but managed It. (Nails are nice) Beautician told me her mum 49 years went to bed perfectly healthy never been ill, never woke up next day. (Heart problems). Always someone worse off than us.
Still a bit fragile but coming out the other end. Murray likes to put us through it was a great match. Mum and I were screaming at the telly. Well done Andy all the best for Friday Il be there there on the edge of my seat. Glad to hear you all seam to be at a not too bad bit. Have a good day. Enjoy the sun. We have not seen much of it, it is pouring here this morning. Love and hugs Lynn x

Just tried to find post on FBook a lump and a bump searched under that nothing. What’s it under ghee name?

I meant Judy and her name !

Here you go, hopefully this will open the facebook page

youve done well lynn, day 7 and feeling slightly better. I think today my aches and pains are easing which is good.
Mel, I’ve been like you with the temperature, it’s been up and down, by the hour. I ended up buying an in the ear thermometer, it’s a Braun one, from amazon as I kept getting different temperatures, anyway this thermometer is much better, easy to use and instant. My temperature is still going up and down but I feel I can trust what it’s telling me now.

enjoy the sun ladies, if you’ve got it judy x

Hi Angels,
Mel - made me smile reading about your trip to the supermarket. I know driving is a good guage of how I actually am - though it can be too late by the time you are en route! Fortunately there’s a handy shop just across the road from my apartment so I try to avoid it for a while after each treatment
Amber - good to hear you are doing well and getting some quality sleep
Sandy - how are you doing? What a lovely present - the rose bush, not the hair brush
Looking forward to today, friend from uni days who lives in Thailand is coming to visit, yeah!
Big hugs, Carol x

Fec-T cycle 5 Tax day 3
Morning girls,
the sleep fairies came again last night so feeling fine, day 3 so waiting to see if any s/e kick in.
Judy, just read the Lump n Bump link, what an inspirational story
Carol, hope you have a lovely day catching up with your friend
Lynn, I do think we are told info on a need to know basis re s/e etc. I like to know worst scenario so I know what to expect and deal with and if that doesn’t happen then its a bonus. The info and support we get on here is amazing and has been invaluable, it’s good to share experiences with others.
Mel, I tried Insure Pink who covered me post op per chemo but they won’t insure me now as will be post chemo but waiting for rads. The company who will cover me is Ok to Travel, worth a try, Moira.
Hope you all have a good day xx

Morning Angels, Day 2 Herceptin/Docetaxol
Thanks Carol. I actually feel great and this time no constipation and had a good nights sleep. That being said I do remember Lori’s & Pauline’s posts and have just read Lynns reporting the same until 3 to 7 days in. Preparing for the worst hoping for the best as they say.
Judy. Your halloween vision made me laugh. Am going to read lump and bump. We had a young mum having chemo tues and she said she couldn’t wear a wig anymore as it frightened her little ones when she took it off. Made many of us well up, bless her.
Moira. Glad you had a great time with your son and girlfriend and Micheal Buble. What a double whammy.
Philomena. Love the orange pickie.
Kate. Good to hear you had a great family time too. Book that holiday.
Mel A. Will take a look at Chris Woolen. Thanks.
Linda and Amber. Really pleased your latest cycles went well.
Mel. Trollies do seem to have a mind of their own (even worse on chemo). Hope your nails recover soon.
Debra. Glad to hear your feeling better. I have 3 cycles left too so I am begining to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Take it easy on the work front.
Pauline. Best wishes for your next cycle.
Lori and Kim. Hope your ok.
With regard to post check ups. Like Lori, Judy and a few others on here having Adjuvant Therapy (Chemo before Surgery). My question is giong to be how do they know what nodes to take away if the chemotherapy has shrunk any evidence of invasion away. All I know is that I had Stage 2, invasive ductal, 4.5cm with node involvement after biopsy. Then went straight to chemo.
Right off to get things done whilst i’m good. Take it easy Angels and sorry if ive missed anyone. Lv n Hugs. Sandy. x

Judy,

I also have the Braun ear thermometer. My GP recommended it. It’s the one she uses, and I got it off Amazon (half the price of Boots). I read up about temps and discovered we are normally as much as one degree lower in the mornings than we are in the evenings. This does seem to be the case with me. I vary from the very low 36’s to the low 37’s. It also varies between the 2 ears, so I measure both ears and pick the best one! Also, don’t measure for at least 10 minutes after you have had your ears covered with, for example a hat, wig, or if you have been lying down with ear on a pillow etc. and remember that if your ears have too much wax in them this may alter the reading.

Day 4 of cycle 5 of Tax for me today. The Imodium is ready and waiting! My 3 day course of paracetamols started yesterday. So far so good.

Linda xxx

Fec-t, cycle 5 being poisoned right now!
Hi Angels
I had a rough ride with the last cycle, lots of pain and sore mouth. Felt very low and she’s lasted from day 4 to day 11. They have reduced the dose of tax for this round so should be better. However from day 12 felt good and had a really great joint birthday party with all the family on Saturday. Sandy I got a ‘you’re beautiful’ rose bush too! My other half got aa rose bush called absolutely fabulous - and he is! My brother, his wife, daughter and fiancée have stayed for the week in an apartment so I have had lots of company and afternoon tea and cakes. Mouth all better and appetite returned. Red wine tastes lovely again. So hang in there Angels it does get better. Love and hugs to you all. Diggy Wiggy

Afternoon AAAs - done long post and lost it all :frowning: - ditto everything Sandy says to all (thanks Sandy!)
Seen Onc yesterday, she cannot organise scans on NHS as magic number has to be 4 lymph nodes affected as we already knew however, she is happy to organise them privately (she does private work as well!) called Insurance this morning and all systems go!
Have arranged for better pain relief for Tax 2 i.e. something stronger than paracetamol and co - codamol so will see what I get tomorrow. Had a loveley early birthday meal last night with hubby and daughter - fillet steak yummy! Birthday On Monday however that will be day 4 of Tax so pains should be kicking in by that point although I hope to be spaced out on pain killers!!
Have a nice weekend Angels xx

afternoon Angels,
looks like we’re all back or about to get back on the chemo train. I currently feel like I have been beaten by the fatigue stick, energy levels are zilch. The tombola story really made me laugh! Just before I started chemo I did a shop at Tesco’s and bought a load of John Frieda shampoos, conditioners and frizzeze! It was only when I got home that I remembered I would only have my hair for another few weeks…I don’t think it will go out of date.
keeping this short as keep loosing posts to cyber space.
onwards and upwards Angels, were getting there x

Afternoon Angels,
Had a busy, busy day today. Visit to oncologist this morning went well. I went through my long list, he was very patient and spent lots of time reassuring me that I’m worrying over a lot of things needlessly. The lump and pain in my neck is muscle not nodes . My hearing problems are co-incidental not chemo related (I see my GP next week for next stage in proccess) . The chemo burn in my hand should get better over the next couple of months - not pemanent . Nurse should be able to get cannular in higher up arm . Not worth having a line in for only two chemo treatments . He did consider cutting the dose for my last two treatments but I said I’d give number 5 a go on full dose and if I feel really awful for a long time after then will have the dose cut for the final session . Then went on to talk about rads. Will have planning meeting hopefully on 19 August to start a couple of weeks later - no smiley just yet. Lastly, discussed hormone inhibitors (Arimidex?) and how they will give me hot flushes, night sweats and other menopausal symptoms. Nah, said I. I’ve been there, done that, menopause over and done with. Well I’m afraid it’s going to happen all over again, said he . Not good!
Also been for a facial and had my nails done. Going out tonight with the girls. Life could be worse.
Been looking at insurance. When I asked onc if would be ok to go to New York he just smiled and asked if he could come too!
Have looked at OK to travel (thanks Amber) who will cover me and Eurotunnel (but would need to ring them) but so far the best seems to be Insurancewith who will give an annual bc covered policy for me and OH to travel anywhere in world for around £200. Can anyone do better? This bc cover came about because someone in the company had bc and found insurance prices staggering.
Judy, perhaps we should all get together to go trick or treating at Halloween. Could do some serious scaring!!!
Just been invited to a friend’s wedding in September. She’s tying the knot for the second time. Instead of a new hat, I might go for a new wig! Any excuse to spend money!
Finally, sad, sad news about Bernie Nolan. May she rest in peace.
Moira xxx

Just thinking the scanner thing so Sad. X. Hyoid should be entitled to another prescription for another wig, worth looking into before shelling out x

Sorry same thing x and you ( think I must be on something)

Hi everyone
I’ve been catching up on all the posts over the last few days, Wow everyone’s been busy! I started with D & V on Sunday not sure if it was a bug or an overdose of movicol that caused it, but it sure knocked the stuffing out of me! Started to feel better yesterday and I’m more like my old self today. Upside is lost 10 lbs… No doubt that will go back on as soon as I start eating properly.
I meet with a different ONC on the 31st July to discuss my rads and hormone treatment…Moira like you I was hoping as my blood test has confirmed I have gone through the menopause that I wouldn’t get the symptoms :frowning: Not looking forward to another 5 years of them :frowning:
OH is looking at holidays abroad sometime in October so I will be contacting the insurance companies. I have annual holiday insurance with my bank account but they have already told me that they will not cover me for BC or anything related with it. My OH is outraged and is threatening to move banks…I’ve told him that the loss of our account will not change their mind…now if we were the Beckham’s that might be another story
Moira - my cannula was put in my forearm for the last 2 cycles, it went in no problem
Going to see my new great nephew tomorrow afternoon, followed by a temple spa pamper evening at my niece’s…bliss
The weather forecast for the forthcoming week is excellent so slap on the factor 50 angels and make the most of the sunshine
