Anyone due to start chemotherapy in September 2015

I’ve just remembered & I suggest you ask your team - It was recommended to me when I was having chemo to book in for a flu jab - obviously best to get it before treatment starts but if I remember rightly you can have it in your ‘good week’, definitely worth doing as you really don’t want to be fighting flu when you have little to no immune system!

I have had my flu jab letter. I had better try and book it in before my chemo starts xx

I had mine whilst on chemo a couple of days before my 2nd dose of fec if I remember correctly. Personally I’d check with your onc team as opposed to ur GP as to if/when is best to have it as they’re the experts

Well, that’ll teach me to be cocky saying that I felt strong…yet another chemo side effect hits! Yesterday afternoon got the tell tale feeling in my bladder that was infection related so rang the hotline I have and was told I needed anti bios before the end of the night. By 1 am was being seen by a locum in a Primary care centre 6 miles away from home, eventually got the antibiotic but still feel bad and can’t wait for the feeling of having a full, uncomfortable bladder to go! So I can’t be the only one not to have had this, any thoughts, remedies out there to help? Still got my hair though, day 12?

I seem to have been sleeping ever since I got back from church yesterday. I think I got too excited about the result of the election of the new leader and deputy leader of Labour Party on Saturday - it must have used up all my energy. Hopefully the new white blood cells will be produced soon. Every day last week I was injecting the white blood cell growth factor - time to start growing NOW.

I’m sure it’s not your fault Hun so please don’t go beating your self up. Make sure you rest and drink lots of water take care big hugs xxxx

Ita the way its affecting my asthma that bothers me the most. I was wheazing and rattling like an old steam train last night so propped myself up with pillows. I know I am 68, nearly 69, but I am not keen on sounding and looking like an old lady. In my head I am still in my 40s.

I hope that settles down for you ros. Good idea for you to get flu jab then? I’m 46 and still feel like I’m in my 20s mentally just wiser  xxx

Hi Sarah is the injection to increase your white blood cells? Is that what you have to inject for 7 days?? Xx

Yes that’s the one. They show you a DVD how to do it if you are happy to do it xxxxx

Cool it can’t be too difficult, I guess it’s a pinch your tummy and in ?? Xx

Hi MadAnge
please don’t worry about asking questions. Just got back from holiday as it was pre booked wedding anniversary. I go tomorrow for a look round the Chemo unit and a talk with the staff. They are going to take my bloods while I am there. Then I go and have a Marker inserted in the morning and start chemo in the afternoon. I haven’t had my op yet they are going to shrink the tumour first. I have been to go out doors today to buy some Buffs for when I loose my hair. There was a vidio showing different ways to wear them. They are a bit expensive but on you tube there is a video of a girl making a tube out of and old teashirt and making it into a scarf. Same principle. There are also vids on how to shape different scarves for patients going through chemo

Yes your right punch to the tummy and insert at an angle. I kept forgetting to put it at an angle xxx

Yes I have seen a few head coverings. Annanandanna seem to have some reasonable ones. I may treat myself. I like the ones with the cap and scarf wrapped round them  xx

Oops last comment was not for you guys  been looking at wigs they have some on QVc at mo xx

I was told that as the needle was only a quarter of the normal length it had to be inserted at a right angle (90 degrees). The nurse said she could arrange for a district nurse to come and do it. My view was that if diabetics can learn how to do it theres no reason why I cant.It took 2 mins to do. Better than waiting in for a nurse to come.

Yep I will to it myself. It won’t be as bad as chemo itself  did they give you a sharps box or did you have to arrange your own xx

Yes you get a mini sharps box xxxxx

hi all, hope you all had a good weekend. Off to my first oncology appt tomorrow. They mentioned a video, visiting the unit, and chatting through my treatment. What else might they do at this appointment, will they give me my start date, (I hope so), also off to the seroma clinic tomorrow to hopefully have this uncomfortable swelling drained under my arm. I will let you know how I get on.

Keep us posted Jayne xx
