Hi Mel1989
My first reply on here! Only been nosey before and read posts for guidance and advice, so thought I’m now ready to engage.
I’m 42 and was diagnosed on 25th Nov 2021. Extremely long family history on my mums side (every female hit going right back to my mums great-great grandma, possibly further).
I’m the oldest of 4 daughters. We lost our mum to breast cancer in Jan 2006, she too was 42yrs old, as was her mum and also her grandmother, they all passed at 49yrs old. Guess 42 plays a big number in our breast cancer family history! But, my mum is my shining star who ensured mine and my sisters health was paramount following her breast cancer diagnosis and passing, that she set up genetics testing for us 4 (yearly mammograms from 35yrs and blood testing samples stored at genetics lab). Without her watching over us, I wouldn’t have known that I had breast cancer, it was found on my yearly mammogram! There’s no BRACA 1 or BRACA 2 gene just a historical family gene link in the blood.
I had surgery on the 7th Jan…wide local excision with Licap and SNB (invasive DCIS 31mm E&R hormone positive her2 negative)
Honestly, I don’t feel to bad post surgery…a little uncomfortable and tender but managing the pain well. Think the anesthetic is finally wearing away. I have however developed an infection in my throat (I’m immunesuppresent), I tested positive for covid 2 days post-OP and have trapped nerves in my lower back and left leg due to sleeping on my back.
How are you feeling? I’ve found the whole journey so overwhelming, so surreal! I’ve never felt so alone yet so loved by many!
I’m hoping to have full pathology results week commencing 24th Jan (2wks post surgery). The plan is to have radiotherapy as long as margins are clear and there’s no spread to lymph nodes. However, due to me having active Crohn’s Disease and Colitis my gastro, breast cancer and oncology team are now debating if chemotherapy will be more suitable as it will help both!
Personally I’m not fussed, I just want to be better and cancer free!!
Hope you’re ok?
Vicki
