My rads went OK had no problems at all - just tired from the journey to and from hospital every day for 3 weeks. I had my port done at Mount Vernon as they also dont do them at Lister - yes it is a portacath. Was awake when they done the insertion but could only feel them tugging and pulling (no pain- the worst bit is when they insert the needle for the anaesthetic) - they say that the pain should clear within a week. (am on painkillers at the moment as it is a bit tender) As the portacath is inserted under the skin if is not visible and no one knows it is there. I feel that this was the best option for me especially as my veins are all messed up. I am lucky that I have had it done in between my herceptin treatments so now I can have my next herceptin on Monday through the port as they say that it can be used straight away (was not looking forward to them trying to find a good vein)
Thanks for info. ONC says he is going to look into it - I can have what I want, where I want. They don’t put them in at Bedford, but he thinks Addenbrokes may. He is going to do a bit of ringing round. Just want to be prepared. Told him don’t want a line, because want to get back swimming next year if I can! No 6 for me tomorrow. Found TAX hard, but digging heels in there to complete all 8. Also asked to have node clearance before XMAS and will be ringing surgeon tomorrow to try and persuade him to go for 18th DEC!
Glad RADS were ok - did skin hold up??? Any tips?
Hope Herceptin is also ok - I am starting that with Cycle 7.
I just wanted to say hello. I live in stevenage and was diagnosed about a month ago. I have just had surgery and am waiting for test results on lymph glands etc and news on what further treatment will entail. So far i have only met people online and it would be nice to know someone local. I am currently going to the QE2 for appointments etc, is anybody else? Anyway i wish you all well, should get some results tomorrow so feeling a bit nervous.
Hope you got the results and they are positive. I am in Sandy and being treated in Bedford. Bit ahead of you, 6 chemos under my belt with 2 to go, surgery to clear remaining lymph nodes before Xmas (hopefully), Herceptin, Rads, and Hormone Therapy. It really is a rollercoaster.
PM me if you fancy a coffee sometime (will have to be in one of my goodish weeks!).
Hello, I live in Biggleswade and I am being treated at Addenbrookes. I was diagnosed in May and have completed chemo and have just had a double mastectomy two weeks ago and would love to be able to speak to someone in my area with a view to possibly meeting up. There are no meetings in Biggleswade and would love to chat. Feel very sore and have been quite positive up til now but feel myself feeling sorry for myself recently.
