Hi all
Just wondering if anyone has been in the same situation as me, I have severe anxiety and am worrying so much.
I weaned my son almost 3 months ago and a couple of weeks later, after my milk had mostly dried up I noticed a lump in my right breast. I’ve had several blocked ducts and mastitis before and this is different. It’s painless, smooth but irregular in shape and pretty large- about the size of a walnut. My GP has been pretty relaxed about it - he said to come back in a month if it was still there so I did and I saw a different doctor yesterday who in short, seemed very concerned and sent an urgent referral to the breast clinic. I am sick with worry. My head is telling me it’s probably a galactocele or something similar due to weaning but my gut is telling me it’s something more serious and the doctors serious demeanour has really got me concerned.
Any words of advice or similar stories welcomed. Thanks in advance x
Hey there, I had a lump after weaning and it turned out to be just a blocked duct. Also before Christmas I took a large smooth lump in my breast, it came up very quickly but when examined my GP said it didn’t feel like a cyst. I was referred to the specialist and she immediately assertained that it was just a cyst. I know the waiting is excruciating, but if it came up that fast and you’ve just weaned your baby, it is almost certainly a cyst or blocked duct - you’re right to have it checked out, but try not to worry. Your GP wasnt worried for a reason, he felt that it was nothing to worry about. So try to calm your mind and watch lots of films and netflix in the meantime. Good luck xx
@closmum thank you so much. What’s worrying me as well is that I don’t know how long it’s been there as I’m not sure if I would have felt it when I was producing milk. Can blocked ducts be painless? Whenever I’ve had them before they have been very sore and red.
