Hi, I was wondering if anyone had undergone a breast implant on “good” side to match reconstructed side.
Although I absolutely love my newly reconstructed breast following mx it is clearly much larger than my old breast and although I have a partial prosthesis to help match me up a bit I still feel very odd (and look it to be fair).
I am going to see surgeon in March as it is then four months since surgery and my surgeon has retired so now have a new surgeon who I haven’t met yet. Prior to my surgery my original surgeon (hope you are managing to follow me and I’ve not lost you lol) had said that if new breast came up bigger then he could do an implant on other side. Now I’m worried that as new breast droops rather nicely and old one doesn’t (it is very small and sits higher than new breast) that any implant will lift old side and although it will make it bigger it will not match in terms of height of breasts. I know it seems a really silly worry when I know what many ladies are going through but i am starting to worry now I won’t look any better with an implant and originally i thought that was the answer to my problems. Any advice from ladies who have had similar probs would be appreciated. thanks x
Hi Bunnies,
You’re not being silly, A large part of the decision to have recon is so that we feel as ‘normal’ as possible, without an added daily reminder. I am having my op next week. I have elected to have a risk-reducing mx on the other side, at the same time as my LD recon. I am also hoping that with similar size implants I will ‘match’ as must as I can. So, I can’t speak from experience, not having had the surgery yet, but one thing my surgeon said, which you might find helpful, is that he could ‘guarantee asymmetry.’ So with a bra on, I would be fine, but without, the fold under the breast was going to be in a slightly different place on each side. The way I see it, is that they did not match perfectly before my original mx, and certainly don’t at the moment, so things are going to improve!
Good luck with the surgeon - make sure you get all the options available explained to you,
Tracey

Hi I had a reconstruction in June 2011. I had recon on the mastectomy side and an uplift and implant put in on the other side. It is brilliant. For the first time in 2 years I wore a tankini in the gym and felt good and happy. Both sides match. There are some things to consider, any good surgeon will go through these points with you. I had LD flap surgery, everything is feeling more and more normal everyday. Hope this helps.
Hi Bunnies
Thanks for starting this thread.
I’m in a similar position to you. I had MX with immediate LD flap recon in June 2011. Unfortunately the recon shrank considerably so in Dec my consultant agreed to pop in an implant. I had the op 3 weeks ago and can say that I’m absolutely over the moon with it. But it is bigger than my good side and a lot perkier.
My consultant has told me he will happily put an implant in my good side to try to balance them up but to be able to do that would require a small implant in good side and replace recon implant with a bigger one.
Although it’s tempting I now have to ask myself if I really want both messing about with. On his recommendation I shall live with it for 6 months and then make a decision.
To be Jordan or not to be Jordan? But without the orange face!!

thanks everyone for your comments as it really helps to know I am not the only one.
Although i know I am never going to have perfection it would be great not to have to wear the partial prosthesis - hopefully my surgeon will agree
Hi there,
I am going through exactly this at the moment.
Had a delayed LD reconstruction to left side last June.
Am now due to have a small implant put in on good side to match me up. I have been wearing a partial prosthesis for what seems like forever and hate it. Its not silly at all and any good surgeon will do it for you.
Good luck
xx
