Anyone had rads on a recon. breast with implant

I only ask as my cancer came back in the reconstructed breast and my surgeon is saying he wants to remove the reconstruction, the skin (which I had saved from the mx) and the implant in order to do radiotherapy?

I know there is a risk that the implant may harden, but I was wondering whether I could just get this replaced if it happens, not lose the whole LD flap etc.

I feel the surgeon is just being cautious, but wondered if anyone has any experience of this? Or any points of view?

dot had rads on her reconstructed LD implant a year after surgery (around 18 months ago now since the rads)… im sure she will pop along shortly and share her experiences with you.

but you are right you dont need to lose the implant… they gave it in lower fractions over a longer period but it may depend where abouts the recurrence is within the breast.
