i had 3 fec and 3 tax and got by and my girls were 10 and 5 at the time

the worst for me was the hair i didnt want to lose it but hey if it was gonna save my life it was a small price to pay

i am back to myself now and you do put it to the back of your mind after everything is complete

Hi teabelly

I live in Notts but ended up having treatment at Derby Royal. I was dx in Sept 2010 age 42. Been back at work since June after mx, chemo (6 FEC) and radiotherapy. Still having herceptin every 3 weeks.

I didn’t lose my hair as I used the cold cap.

Best of luck for your results next week.

hi Nottsgal
im considering coldcap but you hear some bad reports about it how did you find it ?
thanks for getting in touch i will let you know hoe results go

Hi,
I am in the Nottingham area as well, I was diagnosed in September 2010 at age 34. WLE and SNB followed by reconstruction, freezing eggs before chemo, then chemo and finally radiotherapy. Mine was triple negative so no further active treatment. Although just found out that I have BRCA 1 mutation so waiting for referrals to discuss all that.

I didn’t get on with the cold cap (lasted about 15 mins) but there were some ladies there and another that I have met since who it worked for. If you do end up having to have chemo, there is no harm in giving it a go, but get a wig voucher just in case. My wigs were really good, and a lot of people didn’t realise they were wigs. I now have a headful of ‘chemo curls’ but am reluctant to get it cut.

Fingers crossed for your results.
Jen

Hi Tracy

My big thing about losing hair was that I would only have had v short hair to go back to work. A GI style cut would suit a lot of people but I knew it would make me look butch as I have a round face. I have to meet a lot of people in my job and would have been worried about how I looked (vain?). Anyway, the cold cap isn’t nice but chemo isn’t nice. It depends how much crapness you can put up with. When I first had the cold cap on I thought I wouldn’t be able to stand it but I thought I’d give it 10 minutes and after that it was OKish. I was told by the Macmillan people that you can use Alpecin shampoo whilst having chemo as it only has caffeine in. I didn’t find this out until just after my last chemo. It is brilliant stuff though. My hair did thin but at least when it began growing back I had some length to it and the short newly grown fuzz filled in any sparse patches.

Now why couldn’t we be the people in Nottinghamshire who won 40 - odd million on the euro lottery instead of the people who got BC?

i had my chemo and mx at kings mill as i dont live far from there
now been put under city after my reconstuction

all the best xx
