Anyone in Westhill Aberdeenshire?

Hi,

Glad things are moving for you Georgie, hope you don’t have too long a wait for your appt.

I got my date for mx, 15th Dec so not too long. Three weeks.

Seeing gp today re flu jab.

Hope all is well today with you both.

Ann

Hello

I’m glad you both have moved a step more along the journey.
I’ve not had flu jab but I’ve been thinking it might be worth it.
I enjoyed the Shiatsu on Monday and the Clan building is lovely. There is a waiting area with huge windows overlooking the park and it was lovely to see all the autumn colours and dogs/ children running about in the leaves.
They do aromatherapy, reflexology and aqua detox so treat yourselves. I keep being told ‘Be Kind to Yourself’ which is good advice to help us through the trauma of waiting between stages of diagnosis and treatment. It amazes me they don’t charge anything- you can give donations though. For ages I thought about going but thought -that’s just for sick people- takes ages to sink in - I don’t think you ever fully accept it however that’s maybe what keeps us going in fighting it!

Take care

Hi

Glad you’ve got your date for your mx anng. Just be good to yourself over the next couple of weeks. I treated myself to new pjs, slippers and dressing gown - I really know how to live eh!

I’m planning to phone CLAN to ask about therapies but not sure if I should go before, during or after chemo. I thought maybe preparing the body for the onslaught might not be a bad idea but have still to decide what to do and will need to get a move on.

I have to go for a MUGA scan next week (Thurs 1st Dec)to find out if my heart is pumping okay before they start the poison - so it will be back to waiting again for a date for the chemo to start. I have to go to the Department of Nuclear Medicine so will be getting yet another dose of radiation.

Hope this finds you both well.

G

Car53 glad you enjoyed your shiatsu appt. I was at the last coffee morning in the new building and know where you are talking about. It is so relaxing looking out at the park. I am sure it is the first wednesday of each month that the coffee mornings are held. They do wonderful work and everyone is so nice. A superb place.

Georgie, hope all goes well with your scan next Thursday! Its good to treat yourself - pj’s, slippers and dressing gown sounds good to me

Got my letter and info pack re op today.

Hope you both have a great weekend!

Hello

Hope you are both enjoying the weekend and relaxing a bit before next hospital trip. It must be much harder for people who live a lot further from the hospital.

I too bought the new dressing gown slippers and pjs before going into hospital- anything to keep morale up is worth it!

Yesterday I went to the Enchanted Castle at Crathes which was all lit up with different effects. It was beautiful but very busy and not a lot of room for people to pass on the paths. I still had tickets from last year when it was snowed off - last night was 15 degrees- warmer than most of our summer days.
I’m still not good in places where I might get bumped into.

Hope everything goes well for you both next week.

Hi

I’m the same when I’m out - frightened that someone will accidently bump into me and hurt my tender booby. Even when the cat jumps up I hold out my hand protectively.

Haven’t done much this weekend. Got my chemo timetable on Saturday and have felt quite anxious about it all. Kicks off with my first FEC on 9 Dec and the second on 30 Dec - Happy New Year eh! but at least I should be okay for Xmas. If all goes according to plan I will have my last FEC on 23 Mar 2012 and start Herceptin on 27 April.

Hope this finds you both well.

G

Hello ladies,

I saw on the news re the Enchanted Castle at Crathes. It looked really good.

Aw Georgie I really hope all goes well with your chemo.

When I received my letter re mx it made it all so real. I am quite anxious too and will be glad when it is all over.

I have a treatment booked at CLAN for Thursday. Reflexology. Looking forward to it, thought I would pamper myself

Had a nice weekend. Off out now to walk the dog. Scarf and gloves will be on, it is freezing!

Hope you are both well.

Ann

Hello
Its been a wild windy day today. I spoke to my son in Canada and they had their first snow today.

Anng: hope you enjoy the reflexology tomorrow. I did a lot of self foot massage from a book I downloaded. It showed different pressure points you can do yourself and it did help to relax things a bit.
I used to treat my feet every day as I slapped on the aqueous cream for the radiotherapy- any left over went on my feet and it has kept them nice and soft! Hope you get some tips from the experts at Clan.

Georgie: hope the visit to the nuclear medicine dep goes well. I had a radioactive blue dye injection there just before my surgery which showed up nodes and made me feel like a smurf! The bright turquoise blue goes right through you and has only faded properly in last month. Let me know how you get on.

Hi Ladies

Yes I was smurfed as well before surgery and still have some blue patches on my boob. Fortunately there was no node involvement.

Today I was injected with radioactive stuff before they did the scan to find out if my heart was pumping okay. I’ve been told to keep away from small children and pregnant women for 24 hours. Oh the things we have to go through!

Got my wig on Tuesday and its actually better than I thought it would be. Its highlighted with dark bits underneath. My old dad said it was an improvement so that doesn’t say much for my real hair does it!

Only thing I must do now is book me into CLAN for something relaxing before next Friday.

Hope your both doing fine and bearing up.

Regards

G

Hello ladies

I also was injected with radioactive stuff at nuclear medicine prior to my bone scan. Was warned to stay away from pregnant women and small children also.

Car53 I didn’t get my treatment at CLAN. Had to cancel due to my appt for pre op assessment which came through for same day. I now have my treatment for this Tuesday instead. Felt awful cancelling it but was told it happens a lot due to hosp appts.

Are you both all ready for Christmas? My shopping is just about done, just a couple of things to get.

All the best for Friday Georgie, let us know how you get on.

Snow supposed to be here Monday!

Hope you are both having a nice weekend. Quiet night in for me, rock and roll

Hi Ladies - pardon me butting in. I’m not Westhill but ellon, but do go thru Westhill to get to Costco Danish pastries - does that count?!

Anyone at Clinic D next January? Just realised my appt is Friday 13 to see if the tiny nodule they found in my lung when they diagnosed my bones mets in September has done anything untoward - CT scan on previous Friday.

OH joy!!

Nina

Welcome Nina!
I have been trying to resist the Costco Danish Pastries. It is just too handy for me. I like all the free samples you get going round but their trolleys are too heavy to push!
I will be at Clinic D January 23rd for my first check up since finishing RT with oncologist Dr George with the Greek name. I’m not sure what normal feels like any more so it is hard to feel confident.
I do hope you get on OK with yours.
Ann- Sorry you missed your Clan appointment but glad they fitted you in for another one.
I have another shiatsu tomorrow.
Today I had to visit dentist again as my new crown fell out at the weekend yet again! That’s me patched up again for now.
Hope you are doing fine Georgie. Keep smiling!

Hi Ladies

Hi Nina and welcome. Is there any snow out in Ellon yet?

Car53 - don’t mention dentists to me. I was there two weeks ago to get everything checked before chemo and got a filling and last night I was eating a toffee and managed to demolish another of my fillings on the other side. Fortunately I was lucky enough to get an appointment today and get it fixed.

I don’t know where the time has gone. I intend to do a big shop tomorrow, I’ll be at ward 15 on Thursday for bloods and then Friday the dreaded FEC - I really want to just run away and keep on running.

Anng - you must be on count down as well with a little over a week to go. How you bearing up?

Kind regards

G

Hello ladies,

Welcome Nina. I am an Aberdeen outsider too lol (Portlethen).

I am bearing up okay thanks Georgie, quite anxious but I am sure that is expected. Next Thursday at 8am is when I go in. I am at the clinic Monday for check up first. Hope all goes well with you tomorrow and Friday.

Car53 I am now booked in for my second treatment at CLAN on Tuesday. It was so relaxing and was good to pamper myself! Hope all is well with you.

How cold is it out there? It was like a skating rink this morning walking my dog. She was like bambi on ice

Christmas tree up and cards all written! Starting present wrapping tomorrow.

Hi Georgie
Thinking about you and hope all went OK.
At least the wind has died down a bit- It was quite scary.
Ann- you sound so organised for Christmas- I’ve not done a thing yet as the house is still in mess after plastering work -not over yet.
Maybe this weekend I will get organised.
I go back to work full time in January which scares me a bit- don’t know if I want to go at the hectic pace anymore. Priorities change after this experience. I’ve coped with part time phased return but it took more out of me than I thought and the thought of stepping it up is still daunting.
Have a good weekend all.

Good evening Ladies

have been diagnosed 3 weeks ago with left sided breast cancer growths of 2.5cm. Had a core biopsy last Wednesday and was told the result can take up to 4 weeks. Does anybody have any experience on the average time-line. I live in Moray and have to attend ARI for my treatment which is supposed to commence in January with surgery to remove the lump. It is all very scary at present and it would be nice to hear from some of you about your experience while at the ARI for treatment.
Thank goodness the weather is not to horrid at present but I am not holding my breath on that one. I live a few miles outside the village and our roads are very volatile during the winter.
It would be nice to hear from some of you as it can be a bit lonely out here and I have not told anybody except my grown up kids so far.

Take care

Alanaa

Morning Ladies

Welcome Alanaa and sorry to hear of your diagnosis. It will still seem so very unreal at the moment and all the waiting around for results can also take its toll.

I was diagnosed in August with a grade 3 tumour in left breast. I think it took about 3 weeks for the results but I was admitted the following weeking for surgery so it wasn’t too bad. I didn’t get clear margins and they found another type of tumour so had to go back for further surgery but it was okay the second time.

Anng - will be thinking of you on Thursday. Let us know how you get on when you are up to it.

Had my first chemo session (FEC) on Friday 9th Dec and got myself all worked up before I even got there. It went fine - was only there about 2 hours and the nurses were lovely. Have been feeling just a bit queasy but otherwise am fine.

Its a lovely sunny morning here in Aberdeen but there is still frost on the roofs. I’m not planning on doing much today so taking it easy is the order of the day for me.

Hope all is well with everyone.

Regards

G

Hi Alanaa
Hope you are doing OK - telling people isn’t easy -is it?

My experience was diagnosis in February- surgery in March with follow up appointment and clear margins by April. Radiotherapy began May through to June. Next step is follow up in January and mammograms after a year -I have appointment in March.
The waiting between stages is not easy but you will get there!

It’s cold here in Westhill but so far we have just had a dusting of snow. Just hope it stays away for us all as it just makes life a bit tougher!

Georgie- Glad you have got through your first chemo- I think the fear is often the worst bit! Well done anyway and hopefully you will help reassure Ann a bit for Thursday!

Take care

Evening Ladies

Hi Georgie5 and car53 thanks a lot for your messages. Much appreciated that you posted a note. Thank goodness the snow here has gone mostly away and the roads are fine at present to drive. I live between Dufftown and Keith and sometimes our road can be rather interesting to negotiate during the winter. Just hope we don’t get hit like last year with the white stuff, as we had no electric for 3 days and snow up to our chin. Just planning a trip to Elgin to get some pyjamas etc for the hospital stay. Can’t say I am looking forward to it at all. Hope I don’t have to stay in to long after the surgery as I can’t abide Hospitals at the best of times. Hope you all have a good week and good luck to you all for your appointments.

Alanaa

Evening ladies,

Glad things went ok for you Friday Georgie, was thinking of you.

No snow to report here Car53 :o) Just wind and rain tonight. Something just went crash out the back. Hope its not my fence :o)

Hi Alanaa, sorry to hear about your diagnosis. The waiting is horrible. I was diagnosed end of October. Going in on Thursday for a mastectomy, getting quite nervous now.

Reflexology tomorrow at CLAN, looking forward to it!
