suffering bad aches and pains, even lying in bed doesn’t ease it nor does any pain killers. i just have to suffer it for 5-6 days before it eases, then even at that the pains come and go but aren’t as constant after the 5-6 days. on the plus side i’m not sick with tax unlike the fec.

I am 10 days after 2nd TAX and have developed a rash/dematitis/eczema type thing on my hands. Feet are tender but look ok. Anyone else had/got this and if so what are they doin for it. I also have white tongue. Yucky taste in mouth. Tried mashed potatoe last nite and it tasted like slime! Does anyone know the side effects of the increased dose of steroids they give you with it. 20mg at outset with dose and then usual during week following. Of course this was double what i had on FEC. I also have weakness/tiredness but wonder if I would have had it had I continued with 2 more FEC like most people I know.

Hi Starfish,
I have had 3 ac and then 1 tax so far about 10 days ago. Am now beginning to pick up. On about the 3rd day after 1st tax I had a white tongue and was advised to go to the doc for meds = thrush. The oral medication cleared my tongue in a few days. I believe Peacock has the same problem after every one of her tax. Taste too is yuck but is getting better. I am trying to eat myself stronger for the next one on 16th. Both my hands, in between fingers and inside of l. hand near the wrist has become very sore but is slightly better as each day goes by, I expect the next dose will set it off big time. Thankfully my feet are ok for now. Dont think the steroids have affected me too much, would rather have them than be sick. Hope each day gets you feeling a bit better

take care

hello Chris and Starfish

Although I seem to get a horrible fuzzy mouth, so far I’ve been lucky and haven’t had oral thrush - Bahons has had this problem though. I did find that when I sucked on ice cubes throughout having chemo this did help a lot with the strange mouth. The taste takes a bit if getting used to, the worse thing of all is not being able to drink red wine so I suppose thats not too serious. Food all tastes the same, I try to avoid anything too salty but seem to crave salt! I must say though that the more Tax i’ve had, it seems to have got better and the taste side effect isn’t such a problem now. I’m about to have No 6 on Friday so we’ll see.

I’ve never taken steroids the day before tax, and got told off last time! I always take them the day AFTER tax (prednisolone x 2 of 20mg), then 1 1/2 the next day, then 1 and finally on day 4 half.

I absolutely hate taking medication, would rather try to muddle through without. But during my treatment I have had to take painkillers, anti stomach ache pills, anti histamines, anti diarreah, and fybogel for constipation plus more.

Sorry to digress, this wasn’t your original question but if I can get through it, anyone can as I don’t suffer pain/discomfort/illness very well.

It’s worth it!

hope it sorts itself out soon

xx

sorry forgot to mention in my last comment about the chronic diarrhoea, it’s that bad i can’t leave the house and if i feel i need to fart i have to go to the loo. This only lasts for about the week.

Apart from about 3 days after Tax, I have diarreah all the time now.

So much so that everytime I “go” it is burning the skin around my bum (sorry for slang word) causing fissures, piles and bleeding.

My GP has given me a wonderful cream called Alpoplastine, and yes it is like plasticine. It coats the skin like a barrier cream to protect the delicate area. Is that my bottom I’m talking about LOL!

When you’ve gotta go, you’ve just gotta go gals!

Hi Starfish and All,

I’m past 10 days of 2nd taxotere.

After 1st have had bad thrush in my mouth and horrible taste, white tongue twice the size for 01 week and on 8 day developed a disgusting rash around my neck. Consultant gave me Piriton for the rash and on 2nd tax I was given anti-histaminics along with the chemo and been told if tongue turned white or swollen to call them immediately. I’m still on piriton as rash persists.

Hands peeling, feet ok, hair coming full strength, no eye-lashes a few eyebrows only also growing.
I think hair coming full force as to do with bio-oil or e-vitamin massage I do everyday.

Feeling down from day 3 to day 5 day and recovering well after. I have one more to go and then over.

Take care

bumping up

Hi All

Well it sounds like I am normal! Tongue now getting better along with taste. Now 10 days post 2nd TAX. Tongue was worse on dose 1. Sore as well. Had diarrhea a couple of days ago. Took Loperamide. Not sure if you are meant too. I did hear you should let the body get rid of the poison and you will recover quicker. The worst is my hands. Covered in sore rash like eczema/dermatitis. Have bought some E45 cream for itchy skin. Not sure if it is helping. Have lost all eyelashes, hair went on FEC, and most of eyebrows. Have heard that in some people hair on head starts to grow back but cannot say I can notice anything.

Taxotere is definitely harder than FEC for me. Tiredness is more of a problem although again doesnt seem as bad as on dose 1. Do the side effects get worse with each dose?

Starfish

Hi Starfish,
my 2nd dose of tax is next thurs am. not wanting it but wanting it … if you know what I mean!!
after `1st dose my hands are quite sore, splodging cream on daily but they wont be quite sorted b4 next thurs so 2nd dose may be worse for them. Tongue sorted out but no doubt will go again. get next thurs out of the way then ONLY 2 more to do. Then it will be time to think of what op to have. May ask onc about double mx to safeguard future but need to do some homework first.

Good luck with s/e’s

Hi All
3rd Tax tomorrow, ofcourse not looking forward to it but wanting to get it over with! Had swollen tongue last time as well as taste probs and being totally exhausted but at least didn’t end up in hospital like I did 1st time, so hoping number 3 is going to be ok. Anyone else had swollen tongue and been given anything to help with this? Felt like it was too big for my mouth…fortunately didn’t stop me talking! Chris I think you have your tax the day after me? Good luck with that. I normally start to get SE’s on the Saturday after chemo on Wednesday and start to feel a little more 'normal ’ by the Tues, or at least that’s how it was with tax 2 and with the AC I had before surgery. Reading back through this thread sounds like a few of us are having similar se’s, let’s hope that means this taxotere is doing it’s stuff. Hope you are all ok and coping with the se’s this tax creates .

Having just had taxotere 6 last Friday, on day 4 I can say that this has definitely been the worst one. I have spent 2 days in bed and keep falling asleep, I’m lucky if I can manage to stay awake for an hour! I haven’t had this problem before. I am so weak I even had to ask my 13 year old daughter to help me get dry after my shower yesterday, how embarrassing! I’ve got no appetite, stomach pains are chronic… well I could go on but you know what I mean.

I feel envious of those of you who have almost finished Tax, I’ve got another 2 to go.

Good luck everyone, hope its not too bad for you.

I have got my crepe paper palate - day 9 after tax. tounge starting to return to normal size.

pineapple juice tastes ok and tea - water tates like oil but I drink it fast.

tastes are better than Epirubicin - that is horrible, glad that has finished.

triedness is the big thing - nothing for it but sleep it off and wait for it to go.

best wishes all
gill

Hi Everyone,
Peacock, i can totally understand what you are saying about the tiredness, I can just about sleep all saturday and Sunday after having tax on the Wednesday! After the 1st dose i didn’t even have the energy to get myself downstairs to watch the Xfactor! Bit better this time but I do sleep an awful lot from the Saturday to at least the Monday after. i think all that sleeping must be helping our bodies, they say you heal best when asleep don’t they?
Gill my Taste is weird as well like you and Peacock mention, hard to find anything worth eating , I find eating crunchy things with texture like crispbreads, toast and cereal are ok and try and get some goodness in with juices and smoothies.
Hope SE’s getting less for everyone.
Best wishes

Hi everyone, I started TAC on 3.10.08 and I just wanted to say I have felt fine barring a sore lip. 1 ulcer on tongue, a little constipation (senna sorted that out!). I have had bone ache from the protein injections but from the TAx have felt good. That is to say that when I have 2 on 24th that I am going to be naieve to say it won’t change!!!

Hope evryone is well Sharon xx

Hi
Hows everyone doing on tax? Had my 3rd and managed to stay awake a bit more this time! Though I have to say I am generally finding I’m tired and most days could do at least an hours snooze in the afternoon, anyone else like that? painted my nails a dark colour, taking advice from people on here. also found after tax 3 I have some numbness in finger ends and toes. In other peoples experience does this go or am I likely to have to put up with this until after I’ve finished Taxotere?
Hope everyones doing ok.
take care
