Anyone ok on taxotere?

Hi Smiler
Glad to hear things aren’t too bad for you on tax. As for the fingers and toes, mine have stayed numb since my 4th tax and I’ve had 6 so far.

I’ve been told it can take a few months after tax finishes to recover, but I think you’ll find that Horace on here still has problems after a year or more.

Good luck

xx

Yes I finished tax in May2007 and still have numbness in fingers and toes, occasionally creeping up legs if I am v tired. It is better than it was. Also I have no eyebrows, still tire easily and catch every cough and cold going.Have to believe it was worth it.Love Valxx

Hi Val and Peacock,
I have another 2 tax to go so thinkin that numbness may only increase? Do you ever find problems with dropping things? I had probs after pregnancies with hands and carpal tunnel numbness and managed to smash quite a few glasses/ plates when trying to pick things up!!! I was originally having 4 tax but now poss 5 cos they reduced dose after the first one put me in hosp with nil neutraphils and hoping dose 5 will make up for the reduction of original dose, how many are you having Peacock? i kind of think if I’m being offered an extra dose I should take it though I haven’t yet spoken to my oncologist.

Hi again
I think I will only be having 1 more tax which will make 7 in all, as the Onc said last week with all the fluid retention I have and weight gain that its a sign that my body is having problems now coping with the chemo. My last dose of tax was 184 mg! My tumour has shrunk well though so it has done its job, now its just a question of how far the inflammatory BC has spread.

Good luck with it and hope it works as well for you without too many more SE.

HI have had first tax just over a week ago and never felt so bad . had 3 fec before this and just about sailed through well maybe not quite but compared to some ladies ,am now dreadiing my next 2 havnt felt so low since dxreally want to do something posative like organising a charity night for bc get my mind on something that matters and will help any ideas ladies will be gratefully recieved. i live in a small market town and there are such lovely people here who all know what im going through im sure would get lots of support.big hugs to you all xxxx

Hi everyone,
I am half way through my 2nd tax of 4 and overall am ok. Just lots of tiredness, 1st few days lack of appetite (taste yuck), mild constipation (soon sorted), thrush on tongue 1st week of tax, nails on hand getting ridges and skin on hands v dry and peeling (sometimes sore), cream given on 2nd tax to try to combat this. Eyelashes and eyebrows nearly gone. Other than this I feel ‘better’ than when I was on tac. Strange how each one affects us differently. Just 2 left to do wendy8, we can do it. Dont push yourself, rest, rest and rest, be your bodys best friend.

take care,
hugs all around

Hi Everyone,
i’ve got 2 tax to go aswell Chris! Lots of similar Se’s to you. Tiredness for me is a big one and, like Chris says Wendy, I give in to the tiredness whenever possible, just think it gives my body chance to cope with what’s going on and I try not to push myself…not always possible with 3 boys but my OH is great and I rest when boys are at school! Chris my fingers are numb at ends and hands are really dry, using E45 at moment, what cream did the hospital recommend for you?
Take care

I had Taxol 4+yrs ago and my toes are still numb - some days are better than others but my days of living in stillettos are behind me!! They did hurt a bit at first but I havn’t got that problem any more - infact I hardly notice these days.By the way I didnt have any problems on the taxol(4xfec,4xtax) just got progressively tired and towards the end periperal neurapathy in my toes and fingers.Good luck to all you girls,x

Hi Smiler
onc gave me hydrocortisone cream if hands got sore and diprobase cream emollient to help with the dry peeling bit.
Thankfully I dont suffer with neuropathy so far and my feet arent affected at all. I have never worn high heel shoes (at least not since my 20’s) as I am 5’ 9" and am concious of being too tall … if that was my only worry!!! I’m glad that I have a 12 month pre paid perscription - as I haave asthma - or all these meds would cost a fortune. 3rd tax due 6 nov and last on 27 nov, op maybe December but dont know yet, then rads jan/feb??? Then maybe back to work by March, BRING IT ON - impatient, ME, NEVER!!!

What is the date of your last tax Peacock, we will celebrate it with you

take care ladies
best wishes for ever decreasing s/es
Chris xx

My 4th tax 5th Nov, then if i have 5th it will be on 26th Nov, hope to feel ok and less tired for Christmas. Then got to think about returning to work after being off for a year! i started with AC chemo last Dec to shrink the tumor and haven’t been back to work since! Dont know how long it will be after last chemo before I’ll feel up to going back?!

Hi Smiler

what treatement have you had for the last year? Did you have chemo, op, chemo?? It seems a long time with treatment. I was on 4 lots of tac first but after 3 it hadnt shrunk the tumour so onc put me onto tax instead. Although I am eager, I will wait and see how I feel before I go back to work, I would rather start and stay there than have to say oops I need a bit more time. Luckily I am only contracted for 27 hrs per week anyway and can add more if I want.

Peacock, is 184 mgs of tax a lot, I am on a dose of 180 mgs. Is it according to our weight ?? The way I am eating at the mo. the onc will have to up my tax!!! 1st week nearly starve myself but my… I make up for it later, just feel constantly hungry. Good job 1st week is a low calorie week really. Must try and stay upstairs for a bit, stay away from the kitchen. Mind you I have a secret stash under the bed… but thats my secret!.

hugs

Hi Chris
had AC chemo, op, rads and now Taxotere chemo, and some tamoxifen between op and tax! Reduced dose after 1st tax ( cos of nil neutraphils & in hosp) hence the offer of 5th chemo to make up for reduction of dose. Do you know when your op is? I also have incredible hunger with this chemo, think it’s due to large amount of steroids. Have def put on weight , still just 2 more to go then aim for a healthier, slimmer 2009!

No idea really about time of op, just hope chemo sessions go according to plan. Tumour not shrinking at first and only a bit after 1st tax so still am unsure whether to go for full mx just to be on safe side. I have written on other threads that I am in two minds whether to go for a bi lateral mx just to get everything even, am not interested in more ops, risks of infections etc of recon but a horrible decision to have to make. I have two children who are grown up and left home. I am 51 (52 in Jan). I have node involvement but wont know the score until after the op but dont want to have to go in again and again.

Yes, here is to a healthy, happy 2009, I will dig out my running shoes… or maybe that is going a bit too far…

Chris x

My tumour took a few Ac’s to start giving in to the chemo. Had Mastectomy, that was always on the cards, and had 4 nodes involved. Have to say Mast op and recovery were much better than I imagined, I did ask about double mast but my surgeon keen to just concentrate on getting the one sorted out so the decision was taken out of my hands really, and i spose I was quite ‘happy’ to go with it!
just had Sunday lunch and am still wondering what I can eat!!! Think I’m going to go and iron and hope that keeps me away from the biscuit tiin and fridge for a while longer!
Best wishes

Hi Chris

Yes I think 184 mg is quite a heavy dose, I started off at 175 mg but yes it does depend on weight. Of course I have gained weight whilst being on tax (which is a very common SE according to my Onc).

I am seeing the surgeon tomorrow and I hope he will say no more tax so he can get on with the op, after 6 I have had enough. If I HAVE to have another one, then this Friday 31st should be the last as my body definitely won’t take the 8 I was told I would have in the beginning. Interestingly, I see that most of you ladies in UK start off with a different chemo and seem to switch to tax after 3 or 4 of something else. As I changed hospitals half way through treatment, the hospital I am at now said they wouldn’t have started me off on tax, and would have built up to it as the course progressed. I think I really was given a bum deal with the first hospital, after mis diagnosing and not dealing with the infection they way they should have.

Anyway, good luck to you all, hope you all have a good week

xx

Hi Peacock
I know you have had some nasty s/es to manage but from what everyone says Tax is one of the best. I had 3 ac+t but thatdidnt do any obvious good. Just hope it wasnt a complete waste of time as it was meant to shrink the tumour and get rid of any floating nasties. It certainly sounds as if your body has had more than its fair share of chemo and all that it can cause so wishing you lots and lots of good luck for tomorrow and the onc is happy that you have had enough and gives you a day for your op. Slowly but surely the chemo will leave your body and then it can begin to heal itself from the damage of chemo.
Wont it be good to feel half well again and knowing that we wont be knocked down 3 weeks later.

thinking of you tomorrow Peacock x

Just thinking about eating again Smiler, I dont know why I bother really as nothing tastes all that great, even now 10 days after, thats another good thing Peacock, food tasting like food again!!! Cant wait.

Chris xx

Hope all goes well for you tomorrow Peacock.

Hi
How’s everyone doing? Hopefully SE’s getting less for you all. I’ve actually had a good couple of days, no afternoon nap…which is just as well as the boys are off school this week! My OH is full of cold so I’m trying to have as much fruit in smoothies and juices to try my best to avoid catching it!

Hi hows everyone doing? Had my 4th tax yesterday… 1 more to go then the last one on 26th Nov and that’s the end of just about a years treatment!!! Started beginning of dec last yr. Chris hope your chemo went ok, think you’ve just got one to go aswell?
My face is starting to look bit swollen with all steroids, anyone else got that…also feel i’m continuing to grow around the middle! Really need to step up the exercise when chemo finished and hopefully got a bit more energy.
Hope everyones doing ok on this tax and that it’s doing it’s stuff for all of us!
Best wishes

Hi Smiler
Glad that you are doing ok and nearly finished your tax. It’s been a longer haul for you after nearly a year of treatment.

I only managed to complete 6 taxotere, I’ve swelled up so much with fluid, and actually have put on 2 st in weight since the start of chemo in June. So the Onc decided that my body wouldn’t tolerate anymore chemo. Consequently I am booked for a mx and full lymph clearance next Weds.

The peripheal neuropathy is lingering still, but all my other bad SE seem to have gone, my hair is growing back already too, so apart from the horrible swelling which is so uncomfortable, I’m doing ok.

Hope you are still feeling ok, and haven’t gone downhill since your tax. Chris is nearly finished too, quite a few of us I think are finishing chemo this month.

Good luck

xx
