Anyone on just ec?

Hi,
I have had a wle of a 2cm er+ her2- tumour 1 node with a micro met. I am 31. I have joined the July thread and have browsed the site and can’t find anyone who is just having ec. I am worried about why I am not on fec or even taxotere. I don’t want to offend my onc by questioning her judgement . Did anyone else get just ec? What was your diagnosis, you you know why they chose that combo.
I just want what’s best for me, and what will get rid of this c.

Xox Claire

hi Claire, just popped over from the June thread. At the moment I am just having EC - 4 lots - but then having another 4 lots of tax. The reason my oncologist gave for just EC was that he said there were less se (don’t know if that’s true!) and I am having to have tax because all my lymph nodes were removed and were positive, so they presumably have to throw everything at it. I’m sure your doc knows what she is doing, but by all means ask her, it’s your body and you have every right to know what treatment you have been given. She won’t be offended I’m sure! Best of luck anyway, hope it all goes well for you. Xx

I didn’t have EC, but AC and had it with the Tax. In my case there were no nodes involved but I had to have the tax because I was Her2+ so needed Herceptin and you can’t have Herceptin with AC and EC, you can only have in combination with Tax.
If I hadn’t have needed the Herceptin my onc told me she would only have gone for the AC.
But as Kathbury says, if you aren’t sure of anything, make sure to ask. After all it is you they are doing it to.

Hi Claire, I’ve just popped in from the May thread. I’m having six EC I’ve just done number 5 so one left to go! My tumour was 2.2cm ER +ve Her2 -ve 1 node with a micromet. I’m 44. So very similar diagnosis to you. I think it’s the preferred choice at Bradford. I must say that that SE have been minimal and I’m still working 20 hours a week. I lost my hair the same week as my second chemo, can’t sleep properly after I come off the steroids, I lose my sense of taste and have a bit of indigestion for the week after my chemo. I’ve had no sickness.
Hope this helps
Julie

I had AC but know ladies who had EC.

Don’t feel bad about asking questions, especially if it’s weighing on your mind or keeping you awake at night. I go armed with a notepad of questions every time I see my nurse, surgeon or onc.

Hi Hazza - I am from the Darlington area and I, together with at least 3 of my BCC buddies all had just EC (x6). Like Julie , although it was unpleasant the SE’s were very managable compared to others who also had Tax. The worst thing was constipation caused by anti-sickness drugs but after first 2 able to control by going veggie for a week starting 2 days before chemo due. Also took Lactalose as a small dose the night before and for the next 2 days. Took my steroids before 9.30 in the morning so they did not keep me awake all night. Was never sick despite reducing anti-sickness by half. Hope it treats you well. Just ensure you have the wig before the 2nd dose as by then the hair really starts to go. Good luck. Marli

Thanks ladies,
Feel a little reasured, i was just worried that they weren’t giving me enough stuff. So far the side effects have been minimal, which is a blessing, just hope that the effects don’t accumulate!
Kathbury and SamLee - I guess they have their reasons for deciding to go with tax or not, I just didn’t think to ask at my first visit. Its frustrating having other people making decisions for me when you want to be involved in the process.
Sandytoes I will def go armed with a notepad on monday when I see onc, the first visit I didnt ask a thing, think I was a bit shell shocked.
marli - I am from Teeside, maybe just EC is more common up north.
Julie - V similar diagnosis to me, you must be relieved that you are nearly finished the chemo! My hair is well on its way, next chemo is wed and get the wig then so hope I last till then! Good on you working through all of this, my daughter is enough work for me at the moment!
Thanks again for the reasssurance xox claire

My mum was on FEC then changed to EC. We weretold the F is unnecessary that it has been left in due tmedically tradition, in other countries including Los Angeles, Berlin…etc they neveruse the F. The F can have an adverse effect on you heart so when mum had a chest pain they took her off it. She said she’d live with the pain if the F helps, but they said it really doesn’t add anything…hope that helps, we’re in Cambridge so it’s for front in thoughts and research I’d hope…hope that helps x
