Hi, Has anyone on here been refused funding by their PCT for Cyberknife? I’ve been contacted by the Daily Telegraph in response to my petition, and they want to interview someone who has been refused funding. If you’re willing to speak to the press, to help other cancer patients let me know.
Bump
Wish I could help - my case is going to the Cyberknife MDM for discussion tomorrow - but if approved it will be for an insurance claim or we will pay ourselves.

Hi Finty, hope your insurers cough up - but if they don’t why pay yourself, when you could possibly get your PCT to pay. There is even a QC that I can put you in touch with who would probably help with your application/appeal on a pro-bono basis.
The following is a list of PCT’s that have funded Cyberknife
Durham, Brent, N.E. Essex, Greenwich, Plymouth, Sheffield, Bassetlaw, Southwark, Devon, Wales NHS Health Board, Enfield, Westminster, Northern Ireland Board, Kensington and Chelsea, Hounslow, Central Lancashire, Lincolnshire, East London City Alliance, Redbridge and Waltham Forest, North of Tyne, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly, Hertfordshire, North Staffordshire, Solihull, Gloucestershire, Lewisham, Sutton and Merton
By the way, did you see my link to a story about a woman called Patsy. She has had Cyberknife for BC mets in the liver and spine - might be of interest.
Good luck,
Lesley

It’s a phenomenal piece of kit that allows very targeted high dose radiation without damaging surrounding tissue. It’s an improvement on Gammaknife, in that it does not require the patient to be immobilised - the software constantly adjusts for movement of the body and the tumour, so it’s the first time that visceral mets can be treated in this way.

Just to add to what Finty has said, the other main thing about Cyberknife is that it can be used anywhere in the body (apart from the stomach) - whereas Gamma-knife is only used on inter-cranial, and brain stem tumours.
A Harley Street Oncologist described Cyberknife in the following way “most advances in cancer treatment are small steps forward, but occasionally there is a giant leap. The CyberKnife® System is a robotic radiosurgery machine that is revolutionising the way cancers are treated”.
