Anyone starting chemo August 2015?

I do half spinach topped up with pineapple, blueberries, orange and pear with water and a tablespoon of wheatgrass powder and a tablespoon of chia seeds. I prefer mine with more fruit. The more leafy greens the better I think though and I’ve also heard carrot juice is supposed to be excellent but I haven’t got a juicer. xxx

Interesting! I do mean veg, broccoli and salad greens for mine.  I think spinach & watercress are supposed to be important. I did the carrots in my nutri ninja (chopped 'em up pretty small first) with water, ginger & lime juice. Just so you know you don’t need a juicer too. This disease seems to have turned me into a 1950s housewife . , looking at the labels in the supermarket, cooking stuff from scratch & a cupboard full of new gadgets. x

Thanks BiBi…I’ll try carrot tomorrow. xx

What do the chia seeds do? I have used them before but not sure what they do xx

They’re antioxidant, omega 3 and protein source xx

Hi ladies. Just catching up on posts after a few days off the forum. You’re all putting me to shame with your healthy eating. We had a Chinese takeaway last night and I’ve just finished a slice of buttered toast and peanut butter!

2nd chemo cycle went well yesterday - thanks for the advance good wishes.- although I have to say I really struggled with the cool cap this time, having found it ok the first time.Still, I did perservere. No head hair loss yet (have been told with AC it usually starts after 1st or 2nd session so these next two weeks are critical).I’m feeling fine today, emotionally and physically, although mouth already feels a bit “thick”.

Good luck with whatever life throws at us all over the next few days/weeks! x

Hi bravescholar glad you are ok:) over the last couple of days I became a one woman eating machine I was hungry all the time. It has subsided a bit now but healthy eating was a struggle when all I wanted was marmite and cheese spread on toast and crisps. I think having a bit of what you fancy is a must going through this  xxxxxxxxxx

Hi Bravescholar
Glad you are fairing ok so far. Fingers crossed for you hair and very well done for persevering with the cold cap. xxx
That made me laugh Sarah! I can’t resist crisps but my appetite has really suffered this last week. I just don’t really fancy much at all and I’ve totally gone off hot drinks. It can be a miserable existence without tea and biscuits! xx

Made me laugh too, Sarah! Yes, indeed, treats are a must. I’ve gone off tea too, though. On the bright side, guess that means fewer choclate digestives! Seriously though, I did lose my appetite a bit after the first sessions and have lost two kilos. I think that’s good and bad.

Ha ha Sarah. Last weekend I just lost the healthy eating plot. My husband had already been to the garage (5 miles away) for snacks & put the car away. I had said I didn’t need anything, trying to be virtuous.  Then I got a bit fed up of it all & decided white wine & cheese mccoys were the only thing that would work. So off he went half an hour later swearing his head off . . He’d just got all comfy on the sofa.  I didn’t really get my act together again on the healthy eating until yesterday.  I think it was all the rain over the weekend, a bit of a downer (any excuse). Glad your chemo was ok. x

Carol You are nearly half way through. Must be a nice feeling.  Not as great as the last one, but certainly getting there. Well done. Really pleased for you. Hope you’re feeling ok. xx

Well one down & 5 to go.  Cold cap wasn’t as bad as I expected Carole, probably because I followed your advice & took a cheeky tablet before hand.  I feel a bit wired, but nothing else. I am apprehensive about later, but we’ll see what happens. Hope all’s well with you all.  xxx

Thanks Sarah

How long was is really bad for? Do you feel back to normal-ish now?

I practically begged them for emend, the memory of post op vomiting is still very clear in my mind, but mine is the only consultant at the Marsden who refuses to give it! Really drew the short straw there.

I do like/trust her other than that, so I guess I’ll just have to get on with it.My husband says he’s waiting for my head to start spinning round! I do have a bit of a headache now

xx

Thanks so much Sarah. Paracetamol has reduced headache to manageable level, but I am so nauseated I feel vomiting could hit at any moment. I have had ginger tea, queasy drops, sickness pill, peppermint & ginger beer.  Belt & braces or what?!  If I can just keep the sick tab down for another 30mins hopefully it will kick in soon.  That registrar’s ears will be burning & it’s not the left for love one right now ? xxxx

What’s the problem with them giving you emend? Have I spelt that right? I’m worried about the sickness more than anything. Although I never got morning sickness but do suffer slight travel sickness. I’m going to stock up on ginger beer and tea xx

I would definitely recommend.  I had ginger & raspberry queasy drops, which did enable me to hold off for an hour to allow the domperidone to absorb.  If I was a scientist I would invent anti nausea pills you don’t need to swallow!!! You’ll be fine, but feel free to moan to me if not, you will find a very sympathetic ear. Hopefully it will be better by Weds. Good luck xx

You will be fine Hun it sounds like they haven’t given you enough anti sickness tablets so I would use that when you ring g.p. hope you can get some rest now. Keep drinking the water big hugs xxxxxxxxxxxx

Try and insist on emend and an extra anti sickness that I have put below and you should have an extra one for the first night and strong headache tablets and ginger ale also if you are tired ask them for a small dose of diazepam . Lisa you will be fine if you have what you need beforehand . It sounds like bibis onc didn’t give her the right anti sickness. Hope you are both ok ladies big hugs to you both xxxxxxxxxx

Hi bibi how are this morning Hun? I hope things settled down xxxxxxxx

Yes bibi how ya diddling this morning. Hope you managed some sleep xxx
