Anyone starting chemo in December?

Hi dawn

Thanks, glad you had a good 2nd FEC, here’s hoping mine is as good as my first.

It seems that my scar line has finally started settling down now. I made the decision to not have it drained before chemo and while it was uncomfortable for a few days it has now settled. I have now been able to make an appointment to get me new boobie!

Well second round for me in the morning.

Take care everyone, Karen xxxx

Ooh I don’t like the head tingling. Before now it was a little and now its all at the top and horrid.

Tomcat I hate that feeling as you know what’s happening. How did it go Scrumpy? I finished about an hour ago. Now time for a sleep if possible x

From days 8 to 12 I had the odd tingling on my head. On days 13 and 14 it started to be in big patches on the top and the back of my head and I have to say its super uncomfortable but not exactly paintful. I have already cut my hair very short and I am now happy I did it as I see little hairs everywhere! It isn’t as traumatic as the feeling means I know its going. I can’t noticely see the loss on my head yet but it wont take long as its so short anyway and i can see my scalp anyway in places!

I should have had my 2nd AC on Thursday due to travel plans and the hospitals’ wish to keep my treatments on the same day I actually have a weeks grace and don’t go back till day 21. I won’t get this lucky twice though - the next three are 2 weekly and then its Taxol weekly for 12 weeks and then Radio and Herceptin (13 times, 3 weeky!)

I had some slight mouth ulcers on my tongue on days 11 and 12 but nothing too bad .

I know I have been really lucky so far with the main problem ust being a week of constipation fllowed by a week of the other! I am not looking forward to the next one but if I am not as scared as I was the first time. So far so good.

The hair thing I have to thnk about. As it is so short anyway I am loathed to shave it but if the feeling is less if I do, its a pssibility. Anyone ahead of me on that can let me know perhaps. I don’t mind the odd tingle but tge whole of the top or back of my head is really not nice. I am also getting excema on my head due to the tingling as it itches me!

Hi

My head didn’t exactly tingle, just felt really sore to the touch. My scalp is red but I don’t think it’s excema - when the hair actually comes out it feels much better. Most of mine came out in the shower today (day 17) and I will probably clip the rest tomorrow. I am finding the loss quite hard, which surprised me as obviously I was expecting it, but I think my kids are finding it harder. I suppose up until now I haven’t really looked ill, but suddenly there is something clearly wrong.

My oncologist is changing my antisickness meds for second FEC on Wednesday as I was quite poorly after the first cycle. I think I have been prescribed Emend which will hopefully be much more effective. I have already started preparing for the constipation so I am ready for it this time - Dulcoease, apricots, prune juice, fibergel - I have the lot!  I was told if things go the other way then take over the counter immodium, although I haven’t had that particular problem.

I saw the nurse on Friday and after measuring my arms and calculating volumes etc, apparently I do have lymphedema. Back in 2 weeks to see if it is getting better or worse.

Caroline - good idea to see the oncologist as doses are worked out according to weight, so maybe it needs adjusting a little.

Tomcat - My scalp definitely hurts less where there is no hair.

Marli - have you tried immodium or that kind of thing?

Hope everyone continues to have the best weekend they can.

Hi,
I suffered with chronic constipation 1st EC & was given movicol. Took 8 sachets together as pain very bad one day & it did the trick. Ive taken 2 per day throughout 2nd cycle & bowls been ok apart from one day the other way if u know what i mean.
Carnt believe im writing this down ha ha… Hope it helps x

Just wondering if anyone getting indigestion. Seems to be getting worse as im starting to eat properly again. Trying gaviscon but not helping. X

Not been offered any prevention type drugs for anything apart from sickness. SE been treated as theyve hit me.

Ask for ompridec to take daily.

Thanks for the adive aTomcat. .Im going to rng the unit monday.

Wow, don’t you ladies write a lot on 24hours! Feeling hung over today after yesterday’s FEC. Taken every anti sickness drug given even the “just in case” ones so u don’t feel sick - just light headed and dizzy!

Actually slept most if yesterday afternoon and night which is a bonus for me.

I’m on the movicol if equivalent laxido. Take 2 sachets a day - I dissolve them in a bottle of water and keep in the fridge and sip over 6 hours rather than taking 2 doses. Have had to up the dose to 8 on the odd occasion, but not needed anything to counteract it!

I was also prescribed ompeprazole for indigestion, haven’t had any symptoms.

Still cold capping, thin in top but comb over piny tail works a trick so donf have your hair cut too short.

Hope everyone has a good day x

I completely agree over the hair. With AC and then Taxol its all going and I got my head round that early. One AC and its shedding loads. I can’t stand the feeling or the distress and I’ll shave it soon. I need to clear it with twelve year old boy who is still very worried about me doing it first though. Its in my food and my clothes and I can’t stand it. You can’t see its falling yet but its getting worse and ai don’t care to try and save it as I know 100% hair loss is gonna happen anyway.

The feeling isn’t all the time but it kept me awake last night. I’m atillglad I went short for a few weeks but I think it’s time to shave and hat:)

Thanks I had a great time the flight to the UK was hard as I felt queezy, it was too hot and rather long. Back was totally fine.

A male family friend that is a paramedic is shaving mine tomorrow so we can be twins. I didn’t want hubby to do it as I think it will be too hard for him.

Well done karen. Sounds like we will all be feeling liberated & in control if our hair situation by the end of the week
Brave hubby…mine is impressed!
Love Caroline x

Hi all sounds like a lot of hairy decisions going on there. I’m still sleeping the FEC off (sounds rather rude!). Think I’m making up fir three months if insomnia. Came down from afternoon nap hoping to find Christmas had been put away but, no, so will have to summon up some energy tomorrow. Kids back to school Tuesday so guess we’re playing tidy up. It’ll be good for them as they put the decorations up, they can try to remember how to pack it all away neatly for next year!

Seeing onc tomorrow at 7pm if I can stay awake. Will find out if I’m to have a fourth FEC to make up for the delays or if straight on to tax. Also need to discuss sweats and prognosis.

Must look up the looking good thing and headstrong, last time I looked everything was in London which I don’t fancy.

Sleep well all x

OMG I actually did it. A really good friend offerred to shave my head and he did, while his wife videod it and their kids laughed. I am sorry to tell you that my head still hurts but not half as badly as it did and it is so much less distressing than smalll bits of hair in my hands and food and everywhere!  I would encourage it if you are in pain or distressed by it dropping. Once the stubble falls it will feel better and I suspect it will look better too.

Well done Tomcat!

I cut mine to about an inch all over today and my biggest problem with it is my head is so cold! I guess it is a bit warmer in Israel than it is here at the moment :smileyhappy:

I expect I will go the whole way once I have adjusted to the chill around my ears.

Third flush today and it went much better. Getting psyched up for second FEC wednesday.

Hi girls, hoping everyone feeling well today.
Has anyone noticed tenderness & soreness in the vein where the chemo was given. Arm also tender. Its 2 weeks since treatment & bruising healed. Just wondered if anyone else had this?
thanks everyone x

Hi Karen,
Hope you feeling ok otherwise. Is it your second one?
Think the drugs that toxic must damage our poor old veins.
Love Caroline x

Hi Caroline I hv had the same at first could not quite work out why arm was so bad ! I have been putting arnica cream on the arm and taking the little arnica pearls and this had really helped bruising, I used it after operation as well and healed quickly

Had second cocktail yesterday still feel so sick they hv given some new pack of drugs so will see how they work. Hair has started to fall out had it cut short and think time will come to start to wear wig have decided will wear around house next few days while feel bit rough then Saturday it can hv first official outing! I am just counting these down and looking forward to when it is all done. I am going back to work on flexi as and how I want next week need to get normality and structure back other than keep thinking about hospital appts! I am booked in look good feel better day on 27th jan so will be nice to see how we can pamper ourselves.

Hope all ok with you and good luck to all ladies have treatment this week.

Sun is shining here so that’s always a plus best wishes to all
