Anyone taking Megace?

Hello
I have been taking Tamoxifen for the past year. Yesterday the oncologist prescribed Megace in addition to the Tamoxifen. Is anyone else on this combination and if so, have you experienced any particular side effects?
Thanks

Starr

I took Megace to counteract the hot flushes that I got from Tamoxifen. I was prescribed one tablet but adjusted it so that I took only a quarter of a tablet. That helped the flushes but didn’t give me the side effects. I can’t remember what the side effects were now, it was so long ago.
Hope this helps

Hello Topper

can you remember what the dose was you took?
My oncologist has suggested Megace to help with the flushes I get from Aromasin but I’d be glad to know what dosage helped you.
Many thanks
Anthi

Hi Anthi
Sorry I can’t remember the dose just that it was one tablet. It was 6 years ago, I started off taking a full tablet as directed but then tried taking less just to see if I could get a manageable flush on a smaller dose. A quarter was what I got it down to. I seem to think the Megace gave me stomach cramps. I did ask my GP if that was OK and she was quite happy with a smaller dose.

As my job involved working with people with appointments for up to an hour at a time I couldn’t afford to spontaneous combust every forty minutes. It really sapped my energy too.

Good Luck

I took Megace for my hot flushes. I came off them in Feb to try and lose some weight also flushes seem to have gone. GP said they were being discontinued.

take care

Hi Starr,
i took megace for nearly 12 months, it worked at first but then the flushes seemed to get worse and megace wasn’t working.I felt bloated and i was also depressed and felt much better when i came off it, doc said was probably just coincidence!!!
I am now on Clonidine, 25 micrograms, which was prescribed by gynacologist, apparently they used to use it for high blood pressure. i feel much better and although i still get flushes, but they aren’t as often and sometimes i actually feel cold!!!
They say may cause drowsiness, but i wouldn’t know as i am tired all the time anyway!!
Hope this helps
