Anyone used compression bra for seroma?

Have had a seroma since mastectomy in January 2010. So in March 2011, I had an operation as my body had formed a capsule that was holding fluid. Unfortunately the seroma is now worse, and they are draining off 360 mls per week. They do not want to leave it, because my body might form another capsule, so now they are suggesting a compression bra. I’m now thinking this is never going to be sorted out, and wonder if anyone else has had a similar problem/experience of a compression bra?
Have looked on the internet, and they look absolutely hideous. Always took a pride in my appearance before so this is the latest blow.

Hi Lemongrove

I had a seroma that just would not go away, despite draining many times, and compression was mentioned but my surgeon was of the opinion that it would have to be so tight to stop the fluid reforming that it would be impractical. In the end they decided to leave it alone and hope my body would reabsorb the fluid. Unfortunately I was unluck, got an infection and had an emergency op to open it ,when that wound finally healed it was OK. Don’t worry my surgeon has said many times that my circumstance was unique and in all his years it has not happened to one of his patients before.

One way or another they will sort this out for you. I do know the frustration you must be feeling. Let me know what happens

Take care

Hi Andie thank you for the reply. If you don’t mind me asking, how long did your seroma go on for?. Mine has been on the go for 16 months, since January 2010. The surgeon is very disappointed, and frustrated - he said, it’s just not going away is it?.
Apparently, the NHS in my area don’t have a compression bra, so my medical team are kindly using charity funds to buy one from a private hospital in Surrey. This will be the second time charity has helped me out with my treatment because the NHS won’t pay (Cyberknife and compression bra), so I should be grateful.

Hi Lemongrove

I had had my seroma for about 10 months when I picked up the infection which caused cellulitis and they operated to drain it and flush it out. My personal drama then continued for a further 10 months because my body let me down yet again and took that long for the ensuing wound to heal. Everything is OK now and it will be for you eventually.

Take care
