I find normal minty toothpaste is too minty so was recommended sensodyne pronamel which isn’t too strong… Also a soft head tooth brush which doesn’t hurt so much… Also have difflam which is minty and nippy but helps make my mouth go a bit numb.
Never tried baking powder stuff.

Hi Hazel, have you tried biotene? It’s what my hospital recommended during chemo. Tastes foul (if you can taste it) and is expensive, but worth trying.
Hope you find something suitable soon.
I’m using Biotene too & Diflam mouthwash when I get anything out of the ordinary (to prevent ulcers etc).
Must admit it’s not minty but you soon get used to it!
Hope you get sorted soon

Hi all
You should be able to get Biotene on prescription from GP or dentist for this kind of thing. And if its difficult Boots do a good Expert Dry Mouth Spray for £2 something. The Biotene Gel and moisturiser are more effective than the toothpaste and mouthwash.
Pronamel is one of the toothpastes that are - sorry - recommended for some older people who have mouth problems. Seems it doesn’t foam the same as regular stuff.
And if you really have a sore mouth you can get silk toothbrushes, very gentle, not cheap, but again you might be able to get these on a dentist prescription.

Hello
Thank you for the posts, it does seem that mint in toothpaste is the culprit, and will definately try the biotene.
Thanks

Hazelmary,
I forgot to say … I use a child’s soft toothbrush too - less harsh on your gums!

I was always given Difflam by the hospital for a sore month, but my dentist said they can prescribe something for you when you are having oral problems. I had gum trouble all the way through Taxotere.
