Appetite loss

I have completely lost my appetite- I just can’t face eating food and when I do I can barely eat a few mouthfuls

it’s only late at night I feel as if I can manage something

I’m not having Chemo or Radiotherapy but have have two lots of surgery

lumpectomy and sentinel node removal and then had to have more nodes removed - last week .

has anyone else lost their appetite?

Sorry to hear that you are struggling.

It could be possible that it is an after effect of the aneasthetic, might be worth giving your bcn a call and seek her advise.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

Hi BizzyLizzy,

I had a masectomy on 20th Febrary and also lost my appetite.  Food in the hospital wasn’t particuarly appetising but even when #i got home after a couple of days I still didn’t want to eat.

Good news is that I did lose a bit of weight lol.

My appetite hs now returned although not to the same level as before, but I do actually get hungry now.

Good luck and providing you drink lots of water you will be fine.

I can understand this completely. It’s such an anxious time and eating can be very hard. I’m not a medic but try to eat something healthy if you can and don’t be too hard on yourself. You need to keep strong for the treatment

Hi Lizzy, I think it’s quite common to lose your appetite when worried. If you are losing weight dramatically it might be a good idea to have a word with your nurse, otherwise I would say don’t stress about it. You really have enough on your plate. Try to make sure you are eating protein, though, as this helps healing. A few nibbles on lovely fresh fruit will give you vitamins and a bit of sugar for energy . You should be getting weighed at hospital, anyway, so perhaps raise your concerns there? Cancer Research has a great little booklet on healthy eating which covers this issue. X
