April 2024 chemo starters

Hi @altoan, that’s a beautiful post. Everything you said I totally agree and was thinking the same. I’m 52 with 3 adult children whom have been a massive support, they check in with me everyday and it’s me convincing them that I’m fine also. I really feel for all in this group with young children as it must be tough managing it all. I’ve 2 grandchildren aged 2&3 and haven’t been able to see them this past 3 weeks( I looked after them twice a week) as they’ve had chickenpox and one took bronchitis. I’ve found this the hardest as they bring so much joy. Hope you’ve had a lovely weekend xx

Such a lovely, supportive message @altoan! I hope you had a great night out and I’m sure your wig looked amazing. Hope everyone is doing ok? The weather is awful here in Norfolk so after dropping my youngest off for a football match, I’m going to hunker down and have a quiet day x

Well that was an interesting night- high on steroids- still awake at 3am- finished my book, played with the hamster :hamster:, ate cereal- steroids have me carb craving! And started a new book! Then when I did eventually go to bed every time I leaned on my COVID arm :weary::rofl: So it been a duvet morning. Still juggling the anti emetics and the laxatives, reduced ondansetron today as that makes constipation worse, which then increases nausea!!! So trying just metoclopramide, but still steroids today so will I be up all night again :woozy_face: and the weather is shocking so I’m leaving my walk till later. Hope everyone is ok this morning, and fab you had a good night @altoan xx

Hi @gromit12 youve had a busy night. It’s hard to get a balance with the laxatives and constipation etc. I first tried laxido but found senna tablets better. I think it’s trial and error with a lot of medications. Weather here in Northern Ireland lovely today and that’s unusual for us lol. Enjoy your duvet day and hopefully everything settles x

Oh @gromit12 the steroids really don’t help with the sleep do they! It’s such a fine line trying to balance it all. I hope you are OK take it easy and try not to put too much pressure on yourself to do things be lazy and see it as an achievement! H xx

It’s awful when you can’t sleep, I fell asleep OK then got up at 5 couldn’t stop thinking about my hair, vain I know! I’m finding the anticipation of losing it stressful, in a weird way I just want it over and done with but then at the same time I don’t! Just to make you laugh I decided that I would channel Joan Collins with her turbans on the days I can’t be bothered to get a wig! I then went extra crazy and bought loads on Shein some are bordering fancy dress! People won’t automatically think that ladies got cancer they will be hmmm is she mentally unwell or in fancy dress! I did buy one in particular to wear to the pub as a laugh……

This made me properly laugh @hc1973 :joy:
I love the idea of people trying to work out if you’re bonkers or on your way to a fancy dress party!

@gromit12 hope you got some sleep eventually :crossed_fingers:

Just back from meeting my oncologist. Had my bloods taken yesterday for chemo on Wed but white blood cells and neutrophil counts are too low. I still feel fine but not sure if it’s maybe my tonsillitis last week that’s thrown things off more than they should be. Going to try bloods again on Thursday for chemo on Friday… fingers crossed!! It’s hubbys birthday on Friday so its now known as the birthday chemo and I’ve told him if it goes ahead his gift is peace and quiet for a few hours whilst I’m at hospital😂

I’m having EC-T and am on the EC part every 2 weeks. I had 5 filgrastin injections so they’re talking about trying it 2 weeks apart still with 10 injections instead and if that doesn’t work I might need to go to every 3 weeks. Will just need to wait and see!

Hi @belle1 sorry to hear your next round will be delayed a bit. I am also on EC 2-weekly and have 7 of the jabs, so part way between your current 5 and suggested 10! Maybe a possibility to suggest?

Thanks - will have a chat about that. Have you had any issues with blood count etc yet? Couldn’t believe it was after the first one lol expected it a bit later on!

Oh I can imagine that’s really frustrating. I’m due my next round of EC on the 9th this will be my second so I will be really interested to see how my bloods are too. It’s difficult isn’t it as you want it all to be over asap and you almost think I will be fine no delays for me, however the reality is none of us know and that’s just massively annoying, how very dare our blood counts not want to behave! I hope you get the results you need for this week. Helen x

Hi @belle1, sorry to hear your chemotherapy has been delayed. I’ve had mine deferred 2 weeks in a row. 1st breast access, 2nd UTI. I’m due chemo tomorrow, bloods are all good but urine sample showing bacteria still so don’t know if they’ll go ahead. I’ve had nearly 4 weeks of antibiotics from first chemo 5 weeks ago. I’m on 3 weekly AC. I’m praying it goes ahead tomorrow as mentally it’s starting to drain me. Just want to get it over with now. Hope your bloods go up before end of week :pray:
