April 2025 chemo starters

@fowkey72 mine was short to start with. I’d had it thinned too much pressure chemo because I then felt the cold more. It’s worth cold capping because if you really don’t get in with it you can always stop. It’s the first half hour which is really cold. Even if you lose a lot of hair it still protects the hair follicles xx

Welcome to the group. I only joined last week once I knew my chemo start date 14th April. I’ve decided not to cold cap due to no guarantees and the extra time it adds to treatment day. Plus I’ve had migraine issues in the past so don’t think it will suit me. My hair is already short & fine so I’ll clip it after my first session. I’ve ordered some pretty scarves & turbans to try.
I am scheduled to have EC every 3 weeks x3 then Paclitaxel weekly x9. Good luck with your treatment and keep in touch.

Welcome @maria1970. I’m fairly new to here too. I had a single mastectomy 26Feb and will begin chemotherapy on Monday 14th. Similar to you, I’m having EC every 3 weeks x3 then Paclitaxel weekly x9. I’ve decided not to cold cap. I’m also having zoledronic acid infusions every 6 months (3yrs) and I’ve been taking Letrozole now for 2 months. It’s all very daunting but there is great support on here so don’t hesitate to reach out.

I tried cold capping x 2 on EC and I had to shave my hair as it had huge patches. I’m glad I tried it but it does add a lot of time to treatment, but some people get good results x

I know they put an anti sickness drug into the infusion, do they also give extra to take home? Are you able to take painkillers for your body aches? Monday is coming round quickly. Not sleeping now for worrying about the side effects.

@gerbera1 I took some paracetamol just before infusion/ cold cappi.ng on Monday, having checked with the nurse. Also got anti sickness stuff to take home although haven’t needed it as yet. They will guide you through it. Hugs.

I’ve also decided not to cold cap… when I got in touch with Paxman, they said that for the combination of drugs I’ll be having, that I should use the following calculation to inform my decision… 50% chance of retaining 50% of my hair.

When you add all the other variables on top of that, ill-fitting cap, caps not available etc, I decided that it would be too stressful.

Instead, I’ve decided to go for a buzz cut ahead of D-day and will donate it to the Little Princess Trust.

Wishing you lots of luck with your treatment… it would be great to keep in touch to swap notes.

Yes let’s keep each other updated.
I was told the weekly Paclitaxel (x9) would more than likely result in all hair loss!
I will look into that charity.

I’m managing well with the anti sickness they have given me. The paracetamol also helping with body aches. You can do this :muscle:t4:
I was an absolute nervous wreck last week, but like the other girls said once you’re in it, the anxiety goes and it’s more managing where you’re at. I’m going for a walk to Tesco to get a salt and pepper loaf :joy: that’s what I’m craving. Carbs!!

I tried it twice but it didn’t work for me and I think the huge bald patches were from the cap not fitting snug but they tried the smaller one but it then was high up on the sides. I wish I shaved it several weeks ago then go through the pain of cold capping and feeling my hair come out every day. It was like torture looking back x

Evening all, please can I (unfortunately) join your group?! Start my chemo on 23rd April. 24 weeks consisting of 4xEC and 4xDocetaxel planned. I had SMX on 20th Feb, and axillary node clearance. Had a 5cm tumour and 30/32 nodes were positive. Scary times. I had been seen in breast clinic July 2024 and all OK then, so the speed is also scary, and I’m HER2 neg (ER pos). Anyway just wanted to say hi x

Good evening @sunshine17 and welcome to the group. I only joined last week (see previous messages) and start chemo on Monday 14th (18 weeks schedule). Everyone in this group has been very kind and reassuring. Don’t hesitate to ask if there’s anything you’re concerned about. Good luck and keep in touch.
